Ah, how to display the buttons. Always as hard of a decision as choosing what goes on your button.
“Myth is the hidden part of every story, the buried part, the region that is still unexplored because there are as yet no words to enable us to get there."
So kind of an odd question. How do you guys carry these around with you? I was going to put them in my bag but I kind of wanted easy access to them so I didn't have to dig in my bag every time I wanted to exchange one.

I have my two button bags in my messenger bag, and then keep a few of each in my pockets. That way you have all your buttons on you, but when you run in to someone you can get you hands on your buttons fast.
I keep my own buttons on my lanyard for easy grab and give. I have a specific button pocket in my bag for collecting. Then when I'm in line for something, I put the buttons on safe places ON my bag for easy viewing.
I keep them in zip lock bags (regular vs bonus separately) in whatever bag I'm carrying, near the top, or in my jacket pocket or whatever. Depends on what I'm wearing.
I have one of those drawstring bags covered with my own button to try to stand out, but filled with the buttons I collect. Then I wear a side pouch filled with my buttons to hand out quickly. The drawstring bag is also a convenient way to store swag.
The first year I did buttoneering, I had no idea what to do.
The Thursday before PAX, my friends and I were at Pike Place Market, when we came across this quaint little hat shop. Had a whole bunch of silly joke hats and a few nicer hats in the back.
One of them was a hat that looked like a game die, and I've been using it ever since.
Every year starts off fresh. I usually keep copies of my primary button around the front rim of my hat, as well as regular button in my left pocket and bonus button in my right (With a single zip lock baggie in the backpack that has a mix of both). Also, since I lost my Knitted Steal laynard and always use a lanyard from Pez Conventions, I have regular buttons on one side of the lanyard and bonus buttons on the other.
“Myth is the hidden part of every story, the buried part, the region that is still unexplored because there are as yet no words to enable us to get there."
I use one of Liger's awesome lanyards. I generally fill one side with my own button, and the other side with collected ones. Overflow of both in my bag.
When I get home, I make a shadowbox with my badge, the collected buttons and any other cool stuff I picked up at PAX. (Triwizard report card, etc)
This is my first PAX and thus first time buttoneering. I plan on keeping my buttons stashed in my backpack I'll have on me and simply put my two buttons on the shoulder straps to showcase them, maybe even pin my favorite acquired buttons on there as well.

The easiest way to find (and advertise yourself as) a Buttoneer is wearing lots of buttons. If you just wear a couple, you'll probably find that no one ever approaches you because you look just like one of the thousands of other PAX goers who just happen to be wearing a couple of their favorite unrelated buttons.

Gotcha! Well I'll be in my Umbrella USS costume, maybe I'll just turn my fiance into a button mule and have her decked out.

1000x this. It's very common for non-buttoneers to have upwards of 10 buttons on their person, especially since lots of companies seem to give out buttons as swag and/or contest related items.

Especially important (because this is how I typically identify someone that is a Buttoneer vs has-a-lot-of-buttons) is that I quickly recognize buttons specifically as Buttoneer ones.
So if you had just your own button on display, I would only know if I recognized your exact button. Have five on display from you and others you collected, now I have a lot more chance to recognize you. The more the better, and this got better of course the more trades I have made already.
Having jon's awesome site starting last year helped a lot, because I could recognize Buttoneer buttons even easier when I hadn't even collected them yet. :^:
So last year at PAX prime, there was this really awesome guy in a really awesome red hat who was buttoneering. He gave me his combustible lemons warning placard button and told me that this year, I needed to find him and tell him what awesome thing I did to earn that button. Well, unfortunately, I will be unable to attend PAX this year as I am currently stationed at Camp Casey, South Korea until next year. However, I was hoping that maybe the really awesome guy with the red hat would be perusing the forums, since its about that time, and was hoping that maybe he'd find out that I've been spreading the word of PAX to many of the locals here and several of them are going to try and go to PAX next year. I've also been teaching a lot of the ROK Army members English so that a lot of them can accomplish some of the stuff they want to do, like go to the US to teach literature and foreign language at the college level.
So anyway, I don't know if that makes me combustible lemon worthy or not, but thats what is currently going on, and with a little bit of luck, maybe the really awesome guy with the red hat will read this... or... maybe someone will see him at PAX Prime and share this with him!
AHowell is bouncing around the different folks at the buttoneering meet up last year. I'd made my rounds a few times, when she finally got to me. "Hey, um, what can I trade you for your copy of the combustible lemons button?" I sort of hem and haw, I had gotten mine early, and Red had just come out saying all of his were gone.
I decline at first, because I am a rude like that. A look of despair falls across her face. "Oh, okay, thanks." Time slows down, "Pez" I think to myself, "that was rude."
"I know" I say to myself, "but come on, it is a pretty sweet button."
"True, but to you it's just a large piece of metal you are hoarding to complete a checklist. Can you imagine what it might mean to her?"
"Not really..." I say, doubt creeping into my mental voice like a top 40 hit.
"Have you ever seen anyone else offering to trade other buttons away to get one? Seems like it'd be real important for someone to make such a deal" Myself says to me. I ponder that for a second, only for myself to mentally whap me upside the head.
"Fine, you made your point me." I talk to myself alot like that, look at the nickname, it's all right there.
So I called her back and made the above deal; that earning this button now was a down payment of similar RAoK being done to others. It seemed to be in the spirit of PAX. Also, I love a good RAoK at PAX.
AHowell - that is awesome to hear. Glad to see you're doing well and you're doing good things. I know I shouldn't be surprised by it, that most people are good, but it warms my dark Pezzy heart when people do things like your'e doing. Next year, Pax Prime 2013, then, stories all around. And if you want some buttons this year, I'll try and see what I can get for ya...
Ah! That's what you did with it that you needed it again! <3<3 And I had an extra for you, from the remote button exchange, Pez! See? PAX RAoK work!

I've totally done this to my SO. Sometimes if he's standing too far away, people will think he's the buttoneer + ask to exchange buttons...and he has to point in my general direction.
My buttons arrived, huzzah! The images got a little too zoomed in, my bonus button lost my nametag on the rim unfortunately. Ah well, didn't want to spend $20 on proofreads, but they're fine as they are!
Also, I figured out what I'll be wearing for the Buttoneering meetups! XD

Glad to see you got the message! And as of right now, I'm definitely planning on going in 2013. As for buttons? I'm always happy to get buttons, however, my husband is already supposed to be on that mission for me (he's still back in the states. Opted to do my overseas tour alone.... horrible decision.)
Bonus buttons came: here are, from left to right, this year's button, this year's bonus button, last year's bonus button, and last year's button. (Also, an original Pez dispenser because lookitthename):

So, basically I consistently have decision-making problems. I mean, I'm usually the girl that takes ten years to decide what she wants from the vending machine. Or for dinner. And I have a button machine.
With that caveat, I narrowed down (seriously!) from like a zillion designs to, uhm, these:
The one in front (the subspace star) is probably my "avatar"/main button with the rest being bonus buttons of some sort. Or I just reach in and give you a random one. Planning is also not my forte.
I've also got some extra, limited bonus buttons I may be carrying:
Random things:
I ran out of the Companion Cube last year (it was my bonus button) + some people were sad. So I'm bringing limited quantities + if you ask, I'll give you one if I still have it. The "Keep Cal-" is a bonus if you play a game with me. That one in the front, uhm. I'm only bringing a couple.
Scott Pilgrim bonus buttons:
Receive one of these if you say: "Bread makes you fat." "I'm looking for a girl with hair like this." or if you yell "Scott Pilgrim!" (like, you know, in the movie.)
Yeah, so... I like making buttons.

Last year we had a ton of buttons left, so I only ordered 50. Additionally, this year's design, his Dice DNA especially, lent really well to the smaller inch sized. They're adorable and perfect and will fit easily!!

So, a friend of mine came up with a good idea for holding buttons to and collect (without having to pin/unpin). Get one or two Chalk Bags and just keep a supply in there. Easy to get to and stuff things into and you can pin things when you're not doing a drive by trade.
Also, I finally ordered my buttons.
Black wings is standard for trading.
Bonus button... haven't decided on criteria yet...
And I still have some of last year's buttons, so if you still need it, I have them.

Oh yeah, for my bonus button I'll be asking "Jaws" movie trivia, just the first one. If you want mine, best read up on IMDB! That or simply say "JAWSOME!" to my face.
