This is my first PAX and thus first time buttoneering. I plan on keeping my buttons stashed in my backpack I'll have on me and simply put my two buttons on the shoulder straps to showcase them, maybe even pin my favorite acquired buttons on there as well.
The easiest way to find (and advertise yourself as) a Buttoneer is wearing lots of buttons. If you just wear a couple, you'll probably find that no one ever approaches you because you look just like one of the thousands of other PAX goers who just happen to be wearing a couple of their favorite unrelated buttons.
Agreed ! I don't know how many non buttoneer's we've asked each year since they have a collection of buttons on their person , draklan always wears a vest to display his buttons on so he tends to stand out , if you've seen him at a PAX you'll know what I mean.
Hats are a great way to advertise as well, and last year there seemed to be more people using this concept. Messenger bags covered in buttons is also generally a good sign.
Never be afraid to ask if someone is a buttoner , worse case scenario you get a strange look and a response along the likes of " uhm no I just like buttons "

I will likely be handing out my old buttons from 2010, I have plenty.
Ecco will be as well, maybe.
but what we are thinking about doing is grabbing a cheapy polaroid kinda thing and taking pictures with other forumers and getting their autographs and then turning them into a Pax 2012 autograph book for us.
I'll re upload my old button to the buttoneering site and if ecco decides to do his as well, i'll make sure he puts it up there.
So, basically I consistently have decision-making problems. I mean, I'm usually the girl that takes ten years to decide what she wants from the vending machine. Or for dinner. And I have a button machine.
With that caveat, I narrowed down (seriously!) from like a zillion designs to, uhm, these:
The one in front (the subspace star) is probably my "avatar"/main button with the rest being bonus buttons of some sort. Or I just reach in and give you a random one. Planning is also not my forte.
I've also got some extra, limited bonus buttons I may be carrying:
Random things:
I ran out of the Companion Cube last year (it was my bonus button) + some people were sad. So I'm bringing limited quantities + if you ask, I'll give you one if I still have it. The "Keep Cal-" is a bonus if you play a game with me. That one in the front, uhm. I'm only bringing a couple.
Scott Pilgrim bonus buttons:
Receive one of these if you say: "Bread makes you fat." "I'm looking for a girl with hair like this." or if you yell "Scott Pilgrim!" (like, you know, in the movie.)
Yeah, so... I like making buttons.
@zannah, Those look amazing! Definitely will want to snag a Scott Pilgrim button from you!
So kind of an odd question. How do you guys carry these around with you? I was going to put them in my bag but I kind of wanted easy access to them so I didn't have to dig in my bag every time I wanted to exchange one.
I make pins not buttons, so I keep most of them on a sheet of thick cork (hardware store) in my backpack. But I also string a row of them on a lanyard for easier access than the cork.
Hubby and I have decided to cover the back of our backpack with buttons. Top with be covered with our own personal button and as we collect, we will fill up the bottom. I also plan on having them on my lanyard. Hope that will be enough to state "I AM A BUTTONEER!"

Since the topic of "how to get peoples' bonus buttons" has been broached...my original plan of "the same way the design was born" is out since I won't be on the TWDT this year, so...hmmm.
I guess folks can just come up to me and call me the Lighter Queen to get one. Or if I recognize you as a repeat customer from last year. Or something along those lines.

You should just give me all of your SP buttons, because I will be dressed as Ramona Flowers on Saturday. :P

Rush order placed today. If I get them in time, will post and upload to the site. As it is my friends first time at PAX, I decided to throw him in the water by making him meet new people. This seemed like the most awesome way to do it! Plus if he doesn't give them all out, I'm making him pay me back =P
I'm kinda late on the buttons this year, but I'll be uploading a button soon. I had extras from last year so I'll be handing them out too Can't wait for pax and all those fun buttons!

Or simply walking into a crowded area and yelling "Buttons!". Don't be embarrassed, it's fun.

Not sure if I'm just blind and this is already there.. but it'd be super AWESOME if the website had a form where people could say what they want in order to get the bonus button. AND THEN it'd be super awesome if you had the website autogenerate a check list with the handle and "secret" to get people's buttons. Cause, ya know, sometimes you don't have signal in the hall and you want a quick lookup guide >.> ya JonXp!
On a "advertising note," I generally keep a row of my buttons on my lanyard to advertise that I'm a Buttoneer. In the past I've lost too many a button from my messenger bag to risk putting the ones I collect there. My bag gets brushed against a lot and buttons tend to snag

I find that when exchanging buttons, most people mention if they have bonus buttons to exchange at the time of regular button exchange and just let you know then if there's something specific you have to do to get them. That's what my regular bonus buttons are for.
My Scott Pilgrim buttons are the only ones (for me) that that isn't the case.

Well...my buttons are officially in Seattle! Yay! There was a bit of a mix up at Pure Buttons as they had told me they were going to send them out closer to PAX, but THEY called my hotel for me and confirmed that it wasn't an issue and there would be no fees to hold it for us. Got the e-mail yesterday saying that they were safely delivered!
Now I have to wait till PAX to see them. *sigh* (Sorta...we paid to get a pre-view)

Well I'm not the most creative person, so my buttons this year will look very similar to last years, just a different character. I guess since I've got a "theme" I'll stick to it. See y'all in a few weeks!
Is it too late to place and order and hope for it to be at my hotel when i reach seattle? a little bummed i won't have them for the PAXTrain but better late than never

We just ordered ours this weekend and put a rush with 2day shipping. We will have ours in plenty of time.

Give them a call. Likely with a rush order and fast shipping, like @peterhuzzajps, you should be fine... but definitely call first to find out.
I found out that this place is right down the street from where I work, in Seattle. You can go in and make your own buttons on site if you can't get them mailed on time.
Sigh. I really want to participate, but I'm not good with photoshop or any of those things. I'm also afraid that I'll end up use someone else's image without permission. It's probably too late anyways

This is where I get all my button supplies from and they're great. I have to go pick some stuff up from them this week even.
I may be able to make 2.25" or 1" buttons next week if anyone missed out. I got swamped with orders this past week for my business as I was busy running a website about a mohawked nasa engineer instead of working.
I've also seen one of the button cases (I forget which one right now) in what I think was one of the PATV episodes. You could see it briefly when they were passing through an area of the office. I wish I could remember which one it was.

This is totally the place I mentioned earlier in the thread, but I didn't mention it by name...because I fail at posting. *blush*
They're awesome and super friendly.
I have a 1.25" machine. I kind of want a 1", but not sure I would be comfortable doing the collet piece, as I have wrist/hand issues.

I can't argue with this. Will you have a hammer? If you find me, I will give you the set.
Yep, I will definitely have a hammer! So I'll probably be hard to miss. ... Probably.
