Those pins are a very different breed from our buttons. They are actually meant to be "traded"...as in "I'll give you three of my Lookout pins for your Deep Crow". So they naturally evolve an economy of their own (although there's often rare ones to be chased). They're also not "pin back buttons" like we trade. Here's some examples.
If you've ever been to Disney or gone to the Olympics, you may have seen this sort of thing going on.

Sorry, dudes, I suck at keeping up with the forums when it's not pre-PAX. Register and receipt (for me) button deadlines are updated. I promise no more push backs after this and I'll make sure I'm on top of it from here on out. Which means this is for reals!
Stuff happens, I keep forgetting to mail my buttons.
This weekend. It will happen.

I've had my buttons packed in a box ready to ship for the past two weeks. . . i just keep forgetting to buy and print postage so i can mail it out. I promise to do it soon
Hey guys! Seeing as the next Prime is less than nine months away, and knowing my development pace, I figured it was time to get started on any changes or refinements needed for the site and Android app.
So, I wanted to start here with everyone who has used it this past year. Is there anything in particular that you'd like to see added? How about something that needs to change? Or something that's just plain broken and I should fix?
The only things off limits are iOS apps (I don't have a Mac or iDevice) and Windows Phone apps (same problem). I do plan to work on the API more to make it even easier for someone to make those apps, but that's still mostly out of my hands.
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

If you need to discuss the API and potential changes again, hit me up. It would help a lot to have a few enhancements, particularly since they reduce bandwidth.
well, randomly getting on the forums every day has paid off and now my excitement level for next Prime has skyrocketed again Can't wait to buttoneer with all of you again! only 225 days to go
Hi there. New here. Really just need to get in touch with adidas.angel to see how I might be able to get my hands on one or two of their Captain America metallic shiled buttons as seen on buttoneering. Saw them on Tested.com's mailbag video. Became instantly obcessed with it. Their blog doesn't have any contact information and as fas as I can see, buttoneering lets you collect virtual or insubstantial buttons. I'd like the genuine article.
While it's obviously up to adias.angel if she wants to trade a button with you, button trading is generally reserved to those who participated in buttoneering for a given event. It's extremely likely that there are none to be had.

Beh, I didn't even get one of those, never succeeded in tracking her down
@JonXP I would love to be able to display buttons in the app via filters (collected, uncollected, search on name, etc).
Also I think long press on a particular button should give a menu option to pull up all buttons by that person in: this event, all events.
This, especially the search on name. As a first time buttoneer last year, I was a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of buttons in the app. I think I ended up not even checking off which ones I collected until after I got back from PAX.

On the website there is a "Sort by User", would that be useful in the app rather than a search? Also, the app works with Beam if you have an ICS+ phone with NFC, which hopefully more people will have next year. Hopefully people will find that of some use rather than a novelty.

Sort by user is nice, but you still have to scroll through all of them to find the one you're looking for.
I understand, but I'm a fan of not bringing up the keyboard unless it's absolutely necessary. I'd prefer to make it easier to find when scrolling than to require you to find the search option and wait for the IME. I have an idea or two that may help.

It's probably a bit too much work but I think if you could integrate a camera into the app then you could take a picture of the button that you've just traded and somehow through reverse image search the app can check it off for you? maybe it can display possible results if it finds a few that are similar, just a way to narrow it down without having to scroll through the whole list?

Well yeah, you wouldn't be *forced* to do it, but shouldn't that sort of thing ultimately be a user decision?

No. Good design is having the user have as few options as possible while making them feel those options are the natural ones they would take. Having options for everything under the sun most of the time just leads to bloat and confusion.
Google Spreadsheet vs Excel, for example.

What if, rather than sort by user, we have a mode that lists all of the users alphabetically and clicking on one user's name would expand a tab underneath the name to show their buttons? I'm not sure how many people participate in Buttoneering or how many have multiple button designs, but that might make the scrolling feel less tedious. This would also allow for enough space on the right side for an index for the first letter of the user names. Like in Contacts, how they have the alphabet on the right side and clicking on one of the letters takes you immediately to the place in the list where names beginning with that letter are located. I know I never use the "Search contacts" feature at the top, but I do use that indexing feature fairly often.

I've looked in to it, of course. Aside from being non-trivial to perform on a phone, for the most part it requires someone MUCH smarter than me to figure it out. Computer vision is a Hard Problem, and while there are libraries to help out, accuracy is still a problem. Once again, I have some lower tech ideas that might help (search by color, for example).

That's way too broad of an example for what I was talking about and doesn't address my specific suggestion. I'm not arguing design principles of all software, and that's not what this thread is about anyhow.
It's a pain in the ass to have to scroll to the Ms if I know the name, and could just type M and get there. Searching by name is all over android and makes perfect sense in this case, where people's handles are akin to contacts. He asked for suggestions, and my suggestion is that keyboard input would be very useful for search. If it doesn't make it in, or he can solve that problem some other way, whatever.

could it be as simple as android:fastScrollEnabled="true" ?
