One of the coolest things that we’ve added to WvW recently is a persistent mini-dungeon that can be accessed through the three keeps in the center map. This area is designed with multiplayer PvP in mind and players can do things like activate the traps in the mini-dungeon to defeat enemy players. Of course, at the end of the area there’s a chest full of rewards.
They need to stop making this game more awesome and just GIVE IT TO US already.
That would be pretty awesome if they extended it to the size of darkness falls someday
They just keep reminding me of all the best parts of DAOC. I am..pleased.

Persistent pvp objectives just get me hard.
Oh it's been 2 hours let's go to this zone to fight over the ability to some boring daily quests makes me flaccid.
Riding around in circles in the middle of a huge map fighting (not with the opposing faction, mind you!) over nodes collecting 30 whatevers makes me sterile.

Anet having demonstrated that they can make big epic hundred player events with the Wuvwuv I hope that at some point they make their own version of raids, with five hundred players all fighting against a humongous monster (such as one of the elder dragons). Fighting its minions, readying ballistae and catapults, helping NPCs that bring Important Thing... none of this "39 people stand back and spam spells while one dude tanks", really just a massive hundred player battle that just happens to be PvE instead of PvP.

BWAAAAAAAAT?!
But, I want to avoid WvW this next BWE so I can level up and see PVE content. How can I do that and EXPERIENCE THE GOODNESS?!

Oh hey, a mini-instance in the big PvP zone. Great, because that wasn't completely obnoxious and horrible when WoW did it.

And yeah there's a HUGE difference between the WG/TB bullshit WoW had and the way they're talking about doing this (and the way DAOC did it).
If, at any time and not at the designated 2 hour point, you could be all 'alliance has WG? fuck those guys!' and then go stomp in an take it and then promptly bum-rush the dungeon and have a glorious pvp battle where you slowly wear down their forces because you can come back in but they can't WG might not have been shit.
Being inside Darkness Falls, fighting mobs - or Legion - and seeing the broadcasts that another realm was out capping keeps and the balance was shifting was one of the highlights of DAOC for me. Because it meant shit was about to get real. And it meant I was going to get to crack out the trebuchets to take that shit back.

Except it sounds nothing like VoA, since it's not instanced, anyone who controls one of the keeps can enter and thus there's multiple sides in the dungeon at once. At least, from the sounds of it.
No clue how or if it's gonna work, but it's gonna be different at least.

I don't know. Maybe it changes later, somehow, but from anything I've experienced this game's combat system just doesn't work that well for large group PvE.
Yeah, exactly! There's an action bar, a minimap/compass thing... I mean, I dunno about you, but I'm sick and tired of these same old Theme Park MMOs coming out. There's no originality. A rolled up a Charr, and as soon as I got past the tutorial during the last paid beta for GW2, I found myself having flashbacks to Thunder Bluff.
In both, I was expected to just wander around and see the sights, with random NPCs jumping up and down trying to get my attention and give me some sort of "quest" to accomplish. Speaking of which, at least in WoW they told me how many mobs I have to kill for their stupid, pointless grindy quest. In GW2 I just have to guess, and that's annoying.
GW2 is such a rip-off that the Charr starting area even has places along the mountains where there are a bunch of harpies. HELLO, Mulgore much?!! Hey, try to guess the game from this description: I wandered around as a giant furry with my loyal wolf by my side and I killed tons of evvvviiill members of my race, along with ogres, harpies, giant ground birds. I did this by mashing my action bar buttons, keyboard turning, and running around aimlessly for hours on end.
Guess what? You can't guess the game, because they're BOTH the same!!
Come on, ArenaNet, where's the variety? You promised us hope and change and a revolutionary new MMO, but it's just the same story as Blizzard. Are you sure you're not owned by Activision??? You can't even give us a solid release date, it's just "soon", which is what I hear all the time.
If you expect me to give you my $15/month instead of WoW, then you need to actually have a game that feels different.

I'm confused about why the action bar appearing in "yet another MMO" bothers people, because by and large GW2's action bar is pretty unique
what the hell do/would/could you want it replaced with? if you had a range of skills that you could use in particular situations, what is the alternative to the action bar?

I'm very excited for GW2 and for the most part really liked the last BWE and am looking forward to the next one and the release of the game
But damn it can be a bit of an echo chamber in here. No the game is not exactly the same as WoW, but its not quite as revolutionary as everyone seems to think it is. Some of it (the 'heart' affinity system for example) is just something that has been slickly repackaged, but you are still killing 10 boars or putting out 10 fires. The nice innovation is that its a choice what proportion of fires you put out vs how many boars you kill.
Plus the combat is well designed, but its not without its annoyances either - Auto targeting enemies further away from you rather than the guy in front of you/poor combat messaging.
Again, I AM excited about the game. Its a good game. But its not SO different.
Hm, do you think they kept server rankings? I like WuvWuv, but we always seem to end up owning everything in the Mists.
Edit: Maybe we should try and claim a keep?
We've had keeps claimed for awhile. So far we haven't seen any particular benefit to it. We need to finish researching the heraldry, for instance, to get it to fly from the keep. Last beta event they tested claiming a smaller objective too. Not sure if things aren't implemented yet or if we aren't researched deep enough into guild perks.
I thought we had claimed keeps, this confirms it. I'm not sure if they had implemented it yet, or if they only had the research bars up.

This would be awesome if you could get a reward for your faction. Say you traverse this dungeon and land in the middle of and enemy keep, if you win though.

Its mainly other people overhyping what hearts are actually are.
They are exactly as advertised. Hearts are quest hub npcs that hand out quests.
Except you dont actually have to talk to them to complete the quests, and you dont have to do the parts of the quests you dont like.
The hearts are an iteration of every other games quest system.
The DE's on the other hand are something else, and a lot of the masses think hearts are DE's and thats completely wrong.
Go back and read the blogs about hearts. Hearts are quests, they arnt de's.

I think the distinction people are trying to make is that d/e's aren't JUST killing boars and putting out fires... those are hearts
you have the occasional fetch-and-carry d/e but the cool part about d/e's is that, when successful, they become chained events that tell a full story about the NPC you are helping, and these events are pretty far-ranging in their scopes
someone post that video about helping that one dude and how the player followed first the dad, then the kids around, cuz that was friggin' awesome

The MMO scene needs GW2 for so many reasons.

I, too, completely agree!
