So far, it's not clear if the death is related to the rapper's battle with cancer.
Russell Simmons' website GlobalGrind.com first reported the death. We have spoken to people independently connected to the rapper who also say he is dead.

one time at band practice my friend and i started quoting fight for your right at each other which quickly turned into just yelling "kick it" which evolved to include actually kicking things and i tried to spartan kick him in the chest and instead i cracked him in the face and knocked him out
song holds a special place in my heart after that

This is really sad news, but the guy left a huge body of work and did a ton of positive things with the money he made from his career. I'm glad I got to see them live on their Five Boroughs tour, it was one of the best live shows I'd ever seen.
During a family reunion, my cousin and I listened to this song so many times, I'm pretty sure we permanently fucked up his CD
ill communication was one of my first 'favorite albums.' i remember i stole it from my brother and just listened to it nonstop.
I remember right after hello nasty came out, I think I was like 13 or 14 maybe, I had that album on non-stop repeat on my crappy little CD player for months. I played the hell out of Gex: Enter the Gecko while listening to it.

glad he got to put out one last album, and also that that album was great
honestly, they never really put out a really bad album. That's one of the things I respect the hell out of - their work was incredibly consistent, even though it was frequently exploring new variations on their signature sound or going in different directions.

Rough week for my friend from San Diego who is also a huge Beastie Boys fan.
I hadn't really LOVED much of their music lately (haven't listened to the last album) but they were one of the best back in the day, no doubt. Sabotage is the best fucking song.
Sad news.
