I don't know when you're moving, but I am predicting a long anecdote in the near future about what a pain in the ass it was to get all your aqua friends packed up and past customs.

Ugh, I wish the kitchen at work hadn't replaced all the protein bars with protein + fiber bars.

It feels like I just dropped a dumbbell into my toilet.

My sister picked up some super extra fiber raisin bran for me. I didn't know it was super extra fiber raisin bran when I ate it.

My stomach hurt so bad I was considering going to the doctor until I finally realized what had happened.

I did the same thing and I was skipping dinner because my stomach hurt so bad but then while at work I would eat more of these bars because I was hungry. After about 4 days of this I realized the box had a "fiber intake warning."

I'm working on a community tank and put a handful of shrimp in about two weeks ago! We put them in on a trial basis (to test the waters) and it seems like they're surviving nicely (taking to it like a fish to water) save for the one that died (like a fish out of water). It's time to get more. Apparently you can stack roughly a million shrimp to a gallon. Gonna be sweeeet.

Ohh snap. What sort of shrimp?? I got crystal red shrimp in a fluval EBI that I've planted.

What other fish you got in there with your shrimp? What gallonage???

  • Toji SuzuharaToji Suzuhara Southern CaliforniaRegistered User regular
Some basic red cherries. We built it around a male betta, so we had 3 female bettas, six kuhli loaches two siamese algae eaters, and 6 pristellas, but the pristellas went on an uncharacteristic betta genocide and now we only have one left. The pristellas are gone, so it's pretty devoid of fish, at the moment. Kuhlis and shrimp keeping the bottom clean while we reevaluate. Kinda like this, except the betty on the right didn't make it.

Hurm, well, I wish you luck in keeping a shrimp population going! I tried having some bottom-feeder fish along with my CRS but they're just too violent for them.

Female bettas are so great. So are kuhli loaches. And yeah, whenever I've had pristellas (In my bigger community tanks) they've been prone to bouts of psychoticness.

That's a lovely tank, I especially dig the wood and that low-growing stuff you got going on in the front. I have some of that exact same plant, except not nearlyyyy as much. I'd take a pic for you, but with only a phone-camera there's way too much light in the tank to get a good pic. The babies are so cute though

    fishtank talk :3
    could do dis forever

  • Toji SuzuharaToji Suzuhara Southern CaliforniaRegistered User regular
There's something so inherently ferret-esque about Kuhli loaches that I find so obscenely cute. I think the tank is mostly an excuse for them, but I want to try for the shrimp anyhow--plenty of stuff for them to hide in.

I'd love to see a picture of you get one at some point!

HERRRRRROOOOOOOU! (never seen these guys, they are indeed super cute!)

E: this is weird, I would have expected the bettas to attack the pristellas, not the other way around :/ that's how it worked with mine at least.

And to get back on the Kuhli train. I love how they look so normal-sized until another fish swims by and you realize how tiny they are.

Oh shit, sorry to hear that :/

Let me share a story about stolen cars. My dadinlaw is a kind of a car/accident assessor. He was asked to examine a Porsche on which there was a suspicion that it's stolen. And yep, he confirmed that, it was a car from Germany and somebody tapered with its serial numbers. So they called the police dept. in Germany in the town where the car was registered. The police there go visit the owner and he says "Nonsense, my car is still in my garage, you can come take a look". So they go to the garage and... nope, the car isn't there.

His car managed to make his way to the far end of a neighbouring country and he didn't notice it missing.

My cousin's Corrolla was stolen and they still found it. It was a bit battle worn and some pieces (like the radio) were missing. But she still got hers back. Just keep your head up, hopefully things turn around for you :)

Last night while moving the rest of the stuff out of my old apartment, I missed the last couple of stairs and rolled and then fell a foot or so down on to my already injured knee. After a week off of them, I'm back on the crutches. |:

Also omgomgomg somebody in my office has been bringing their samoyed into work and this has made my life significantly better. It's so hard to be anything other than happy when this dog is around, I wonder if I could get my medical insurance to put some cash towards getting me one as an anti-depression measure.

    YES.

    Yes.

    Yes they are.

There are a bunch of other dogs around our building, but a lot of them are small short-haired, short-nosed dogs like pugs or bulldogs or chihuahuas (which makes sense given the climate and that most people around here probably live in apartments) but dammit, big ol' fluffy dogs are where it's at as far as I'm concerned.
