I just bought a used PS2 fat that the guy swore worked just fine. When I got it home, I discovered that the disc bay door won't open. It also makes a grinding noise while trying to open. I can manually pull the disc bay completely out of the machine by pulling on the door. When I plugged the console in for the first time it went through system configuration and everything, but wouldn't read the disc (no disc error showed up). I have opened the box and am ready to try a fix, but don't know where to start. Any help would be appreciated.
Start by taking it back to the store? It wasn't working fine, the guy lied or was mistaken and should give you a full refund with which you can buy a functioning system.
Unfortunately, I bought this at a yard sale, so taking it back to the store isn't possible. I guess "buyer beware" should be taken to heart in all transactions, especially yard sales.

Yeah, you got conned. That things a paperweight, nothing more. The "no disc" error is what PS2s do when the dvd reader is dead.

Google and Youtube seem to think they know the (or possibly many) answers so I guess you'd best get watching
