Mouse Guard!
Official SiteHave you ever picked up Mouse Guard and wished, for reasons of your own, that it were not set in Flint, Michigan? No? Well, me neither. But I want to set a game in Mouse Australia. Thus...Ozmouse
The Mouse Guard Down Under
What you need:Mouse GuardVentrilo
The ability to use
Invisible Castle or the honesty to roll your mouse dice* unsupervised.
*yes, that's what they're called
To be Pure of Heart, save for your Burning Hatred of weasels and
quolls.
The desire to play in Moustralia as
a mouse with a sword. In-game footage*
*not reallyWhat we'll do:
We'll be playing using this thread and Ventrillo. Don't worry, it's easy. We can figure out the specifics of Ventrillo later, but it won't be super-intense. The game is pretty fast-paced, and I'd like to get through a mission every 10 days or (that's ~4 hours of play time.)
Gamemastery
As per usual with my games and as I'm doing this between writing full-time, what I'd like to do is rotate "mission-runners" every season, which will both prevent GM fatigue and let everybody play! As well, it'll make the world more fun.
Let's play!
Go to Obsidian Portal:
Ozmouse!
You'll find the map
here (
fixed), and a handy and ever-expanding guide to cities in the
wiki.
Once you've got that clear in your mind, make a
character!
Then we'll form a patrol and discover...
Who's ready for Mouse Guard?
The Patrol
Trip: Patrol Leader and Weather Watchin' gambler
Flay: The Cook who can hunt
Foster: A guardmouse handy with a forge and good at scouting
Tucker: The tenderpaw who wrangles bugs and blazes trails
The Missionto be assignedVent/PbP Scheme (in planning)
(Mission Start)
10 Storyeller Turn - PbP: Storyteller posts Mission, Patrol Assembles, Prepares.
20 Vent; Vent session begins. Storyteller describes first Obstacle, patrol argues, decides course of action.
30 PbP; Storyteller posts Obstacle in PbP, applicable mice roll, result announced
40 Vent; Storyteller describes next Obstacle.
50 Vent; repeat 2-4 until Storyteller turn over (~2 hours). Vent Session ends.
60 Player Turn - PbP; Patrol does checks (pass/fail), then decides Player Turn actions.
70 Vent; Vent session begins. Obstacles in Player Turn played out as needed per 2-4 (~1 hour). Vent session ends.
80 PbP; Rewards announced, cheers

Nice map! But your link is borked, I found it at: http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/ozmouse/maps/30426
Will Gwendolyn et al be there or an entirely new cast?
Are there accents?
e~ I immediately started making a patrol leader (ex-con, of course) for fun even if I can't make your Vent schedule to apply. I have some overlap with Flay. I've decided to leave it as is for now, and we can expect to tinker afterwards when we can all work on it together.
Edit: Should be a pic of tucker up on his wiki page now.
As the tenderpaw, I will need a Patrol Leader to be my mentor... He is putty in your paws!
In Ozmouse, Gwendolyn is "Gwen", but serves the same purpose. You should not expect to meet the cast of characters from the comics, even in Aussie form. Any similarities between NPCs and the original cast will be strictly coincidental.
You'll see that I've changed a few of the city names, and kept a few. In general, you can assume the new name is a city/town/village about the same as the standard one (I've left the "original" city names for your convenience, and so I don't get confused myself), but I'll be flavouring them up a bit as we roll into it, with photographs for reference. If you want to invent a new place for your mouse to be from, there are plenty of blank towns, or you can use the standard.
I'm very open to players flavoring the setting up on their own. That's another reason I wanted to set it in Moustralia.
Edit1 - in re: Vent sessions, we'll figure out a schedule when we have a player list. I'm used to playing games across multiple time zones, so it's pretty flexible.

Ozmouse et al (Brown)
The first landing and settlements of Mouse Folk, in dim memory. Airships were involved. The Mouse Guard is most respected here.
The Border (Yellow)
The malcontents and daredevils make their way to Suicide Trail, Nightmare Canyon and other settlements, facing deprivation and vicious bands of raiding quolls, as in the Winter War of 1149. A Guard Mouse castle has been established at "Weasels".
The Wilds (Blue)
From an initial settlement at Fourecks, bold mouse colonists have expanded into the native hopping mice roaming grounds. Their proximity to the sea makes them targets for the Sea Weasels, though, and the second front of the Winter Ware of 1149.
Barter Town (Gray)
An independent duchy, serving as an intermediary between the Wilds and the rest of mousedom.
The Bow AKA Sandmason (Green)
A heavily forested collection of mouse settlements that stands apart, while still loyal to Ozmouse and welcoming of the Mouse Guard. Rather...mystic.
Copperwood (Light Blue)
The largest Mouse settlement, an independent city.
Appleloft (Orange)
The second largest Mouse settlement, Appleloft is known as the breadbasket of mousedom thanks to the fields of rich volcanic earth that surround it.
The Free Cities AKA The Bandit Towns AKA Flintrust (Red)
Tired of the faraway Winter Wars and facing economic troubles, the Free Cities cut themselves off from mousedom in 1150 and warned the Mouse Guard against interfering with their affairs. Many guardsmice of Flintrust were forced to choose their loyalties...

Outside the Mouse Territories
Quolls
After the Siege of Weasels in 1148, the combined armies of mousedom drove the quolls out of the Mouse Territories in the brutal Winter War of 1149. Now the vicious land weasels of Moustralia lurk in their tunnels and catacombs beyond...and underneath...the Border, led by their villainous tiger emperor-of-schemes, Maculatus
Sea Weasels
From an island far away swarm the furious Sea Weasels, in ships...and airships!...of wood and weapons of mysterious origin, poisonous metals and sinister blades that sear the fur and flesh. These creatures raid the coasts and even inland from The Wilds, stealing mice away for their feasts and rituals, or for their own amusement.
Hopping Mice
The enigmatic native rodents of Moustralia exist in an uneasy peace with the new mouse colonists of The Wilds...but can it last?

1) Not at all to shamelessly bump this thread, because ... why would I?
2) To re-iterate that we could really use one or two more players. Who is interested in some Mouses With Swords!? Everyone, that is who. I'm kinda surprised at the lack of response, perhaps it is because nobody knows we are recruiting. I would have figured after the glowing reviews of the game, that more people aren't on board. So here, consider this a challenge - Are you Mouse enough to be one of the Guard? Or are you so content in your Dungeons and Space Marines that you would let all those poor mouse orphans be eaten by weasels?
Get in here and mouse it up!

"Shadowrun: Stillborn" - Great campaign title, or the greatest campaign title?
Considering that the only reason I'd ever heard of Mouse Guard is because Penny Arcade did a comic on it, I thought there'd be more people totally psyched to be mouses with swords here.
Ah well. I'm not bitter. I can be a mouse with a sword...in my heart...
sad violin music played by mice slowly walking away filling the crowd with sadness and they are sad awww

Plenty of room for a mouse or two, I daresay.
Edited to say:
We are looking to rotate DMs from season to season, I believe... so our ideal party would be 5 mouses + 1 DM ... (Flay is David's character, so he won't be appearing much in the first season) Which would leave room for 2 more mouses.
Hierarchy (thus far)
Patrol Leader - Trip
Patrol Guard - Flay
Guardmouse - Foster
Tenderpaw - Tucker
...so, presumably we need more Guards, whether patrol guard or guardmouse. Anonymous red-cloaked mice, who can die so that the tenderfoot can learn and the patrol leader can grieve.
