If you've pre-downloaded the digital version of the game in EU English or German before 10:00 AM CEST (9:00 AM GMT) on Saturday May 12, you must obtain the new downloaders to be able to install properly once the game is released on May 15. We apologize for the inconvenience, and ask that you please let friends and acquaintances know so they can begin downloading the working installer that's now available.

Oh well, 33 minutes to re-download it completely /smug At least now that I've disabled the firewall + ip flooding features on my router, as the Blizz downloader was causing my whole connection to die. Probably thought it was being DoSed.

At least you don't need to redownload the whole thing.
1. Obtain the new Diablo III digital downloader using the links below
2. Point the download save at the same directory as before
3. If you chose the correct directory only 50MB will need to be downloaded to fix your install, otherwise you'll re-download the entire ~7.6GB
I pointed it at the right directory but no luck. Ah well - my data isn't capped and I have time.
The correct directory may well be the one above where you think it is. The installer creates a folder called "Diablo-III-8370-enGB-Installer" *inside* the folder you choose to install to, so I ended up with "E:\Installers\Diablo-III-8370-enGB-Installer\Diablo-III-8370-enGB-Installer\...", and being asked to download another 8 gig.
Easy to fix though, just delete the new directory and re-run the installer.
Also, the downloader seems to take a moment to start the process in the first place, then it checks through the already downloaded ~7GB, which also takes some time.
Ok, so I have all but abandoned PC gaming for the last 5 years in favor of consoles. Now we are in need of a new laptop and at the same time both my wife and I are keenly interested in Diablo, probably the first PC game we both have had interest in since the early days of WoW. My question is, since I have not had reason to pay attention to video card specs in centuries...how much of a laptop do I need to run this thing? Do I have to go full on bleeding edge 1800 dollar gaming rig. Or are we talking like the glory days of the original diable where even a middle of the road laptop would perform admirably. Any guidance would be fantastic! I look at the spec sheet on line and it really is greek to me now since I do not really know video cards by name anymore etc...
You can get a decent Asus gaming laptop that will run D3 for ~1000 bucks. That said, you could build TWO desktops for the same price, and you and your wife could both play.
The big difference between the original Diablo and this, is that you are going to want an actual discrete video solution. No Intel built in. It needs to be an Nvidia or ATI mobile solution if you go with a laptop.
I think while it's generally good advice to go with discrete video card, I don't think it's needed for Diablo 3.
This is an older model MacBook Air, I don't know what the video card is but the latest models have an Intel HD Graphics 3000
Wow, that is really smooth for "mobile HW". I tried the Diablo III Beta on my Macbook 2008 (metal) with a Geforce 9400GS and it ran horribly ~ 10 fps - at low detail.
Ordered CE from Amazon with Release Date Delivery.
It hasn't shipped yet.
For those of you who have ordered in this way in the past, do they usually ship it Monday via next-day-air so that it arrives Tuesday? Be that the system?
Oh, wow. I was in the middle of downloading that new Installer when I saw that it's only for EU-English users. I guess I just saw the "English users" bit, and assumed I was included. Good thing I stopped that in time, lol.

Hm. It didn't run that smooth on my next-gen Macbook Air. But I suspect that's because the next-gen Airs have a higher processor that down-clocks more aggressively. Faster for quick bursts of calculation, actually SLOWER for sustained high-intensity processes.

It completely depends on where you live (how close you are to their distribution centers), but that's how it works for me. You should be fine, especially if you've used release date delivery before without any issues.

I haven't used release date delivery before. That's why I'm all questiony.
I assume I'm fine. I'm just surprised that they'd ship it next day air, given that release date delivery was the cheapest shipping option when I placed the order.

I like how that question comes up pretty much in every thread.
The game should ship out on Monday, _J_, with overnight shipping. And don't be alarmed if, for most of the day, the status page still says it hasn't shipped. Updates aren't always instantaneous.

Woot.
It's probably a tedious question, but release day delivery seems too good to be true, so we question it.
I wonder about the prospects of playing Diablo 3 on a PC gamepad. It is possible to sync the buttons on the keypad to the Diablo 3 interface? I also wonder how doable it is to use your gamepad to move in Diablo 3, or to select targets...
It would be so cool to if it's possible thou... all 8 skills would be pretty much accessible without using the keyboard!

So it just occurred to me that I COMPLETELY misunderstood the release day for this game. It's gonna be Tuesday morning, not Wednesday morning.
This is excellent, as I finish a huge project on Monday and work from home/rest on Tuesday. I mean, I still have stuff to DO, but who can begrudge me a slightly smaller workday to recover from a few solid weeks of evenings/weekends, right?

I'm sure it would be possible with some fiddling, but it would be really awkward, primarily because you use mouse to move and to aim lots of ground targeted abilities. I'm not very familiar with the many gamepad key binding programs out there, but I would think that would be tricky.
Although Jay Wilson has said no one in Blizzard has defeated Inferno, they are at a huge disadvantage. They don't have the auction house. 4/5 times when a class specific item drops, it isn't your classes, and they can't sell it then buy better gear with gold on the AH, we can do that. I'm sure inferno is hard and maybe it will needed to be nerfed, but I don't find it too surprising they can't defeat act4 inferno especially when act1 inferno mobs do 18K or 16K I don't remember, and act 4 inferno mobs do 170K damage.

Well the first problem is there's no key bindings for cardinal movement, because the entire game is mouse driven, so there is nothing to bind a thumbstick to for moving around. The second problem is that combat is also entirely mouse driven via cursor selection, so you would be limited to something like making the right stick control the mouse cursor, which would play like dog shit.
So the prospects are basically none unless Blizzard finds a way to do it that works well and can patch it into the PC game in a way that is harmonious with the way the PC version is designed.

I'm pretty sure the devs have said that, in addition to standard playthrough testing, they also tested Inferno with prebuilt characters and gear, so it's not like they were just using whatever they happened to find. In all likelihood, they tested it at various gear levels, including a more or less optimal legendary set.

Right?
As I understand it, the game's servers go live at 12:01 a.m. PDT on May 15.
So, yes, you will definately be "working" from home on Tuesday.

Well, do Blizzard employes get to max out their characters in top tier gear? Or do they only have to work with what drops for them?

I watched that CE un-boxing. The art book is huge. Impressive. The skull is a reasonable size as well. It is more like a paperweight. Really, I wish Bethesda did something like that with the dragon statue.
