Wow, really? I never thought they'd do that. I wonder if Activison is paying them to "encourage" it to happen.
Don't be ridiculous.
They aren't removing legitimate reviews. They're removing the hundreds of them that are literally just scores of zero with one line. That's not a review.
This happens with every single high profile game, especially if there's any sort of problem at launch.
I didn't say they were removing legitimate reviews.
As someone who has played monk to level 16 and just set foot into act two, I want to put out a HIGH RECOMMENDATION for using Cyclone and Sweeping Strikes/Spin kick together with a pair of fast weapons (the crafted level 15 hand axes work great). It feels fantastic, and if you play with friends it will set up some insane AoE combos.
Holy hell, been grinding a bit? I'm well into Act II and I'm still only level 14 (but I co-oped most of Act I, so maybe that had something to do with it).
And that does sound like a potent combo. However, I'm enjoying the mobility that tempest rush affords too much to switch off of it right now. And that 50 spirit drain for cyclone is a bit of a drag.
I find tempest rush to be really wimpy personally, and the crowd control aspect doesn't feel that necessary yet in normal. I use the passive that gives bonus 100 spirit to make sure I have a big reserve for fighting large monster packs.
No grinding though, I played most of Act 1 with 2 and 3 friends, and we explored very thoroughly and made sure to do all the side dungeons. There are some pretty damn cool events you can find if you explore people!
Tempest isn't huge on damage, but it's great for crowd control. It's best feature, however, is being able to phase through big boss monsters (especially when they're in their wind-up about to whack you). I've found it's a great way to get away from the bigger enemies more devastating attacks.

Well, basically I'm refreshing the page and seeing the user reviews count fluctuate. Could just be caching or something, but it looks like some are being removed. I hope they are, honestly. Slamming a game for having a rocky launch day is fucking stupid and childish.
I understand it when the only reason it's rocky is the absurd connectivity requirements they have. It feels different for people because there's no need for the current set up, and to have it not work, well...that would be doubly infurirating.
You didn't play D2 did you? There is a need for the current setup, beyond just DRM. D2 was destroyed by cheating, absolutely destroyed. Hosting everything on Blizzard's servers greatly lessens those issues.
People just don't understand that, so they want to pitch a fit.
Yeah, 30 minutes to an hour of wait time for maintenance is no biggie. I just know of people having a rocky experience all around, from installation problems to not being able to login, etc.

When the ups guy finally gets here I'm grabbing my game, and when he hands me the pen to sign I'm throwing it on the ground, pointing to it, and saying "No!..........no."

I'll put up with a slightly rocky launch day to never deal with the cheating and item duping I dealt with in high level D2.

Not too mention those people leaving the bad reviews had their minds made up about the game a long time ago. I guarantee over half of those reviewers don't even have the game.

No, that's bullshit. If I want to cheat in a single player game, you goddamn let me. I don't give a shit if other people are cheating in their single player games - why should I?
'Cause cheevos. Some people get super worked up about cheevos. I don't get it, personally, but I suspect that (alongside the AH) is a big part of it.

That's simple: It's not a single player game. There is no single player mode. Only private password protected multiplayer lobbies.

I don't understand what you're asking for here. The ability to have cheat codes or mods? That necessitates allowing offline play to keep those characters off battle.net. That necessitates distributing the server code and compromising the security of the battle.net environment for everyone. In a perfect world, yeah, you should be able to do whatever you want if you're just playing by yourself. Right now though, if people want to cheat or play offline it means everyone has to play with cheaters. The argument that it doesn't effect other people does not fly.

There's absolutely no reason for players not to want an AH-free, achievement-free or achievement-tiered offline mode.
There are plenty of good reasons for Blizzard not to include an offline mode, including the fact that a) they want people to use the RMT AH because they get a cut of each sale, b) it makes it much more difficult for people to pirate the game, and c) they don't have to spend time creating and testing a stable offline build.
so I played through the starter thing as a witchdoctor
it's fun and I like the skill system, but I dunno if I'm gonna buy it at this point. It feels like a heavily refined/expanded D2, which I'm just not sure is something I wanna play anymore
also I think clicking the mouse this much is giving me a cramp

Yeah, I was about to say, Diablo 3 is a multiplayer game. At best, you can play in an empty map if you want. It's still multiplayer. Stop calling it singleplayer. It's not.
To the other dude: Yeah, you just insinuated that Activision is paying metacritic to remove the reviews, which is like... a colossally worse notion.
I guess you weren't around for the first couple weeks of WoW then ;-)
I was, but that was like 7 years ago. How long do you need to get your shit together? :-p
Over an hour of maintenance? It's been playable for large chunks of time, they are just doing maintenance to bring more servers online. They have their shit together, they have the hardware read to fire up and go, and they are doing it.

D2 was destroyed by rampant online cheating/duping which was largely enabled by the fact that so much of the game was available offline for hackers to study and deconstruct. With online-only, all that code resides entirely on Blizzard's servers which is far more secure.

No, YOU insinuated that. And you're wrong. I was wondering if Activision was pulling some clout to get Metacritic to remove bullshit since I've never seen Metacritic remove any such user reviews as much as they desperately needed to. If Activision DID do that, they're completely in the right.

Maintenance should be done in about 30 minutes according to their estimate for how long it would take.
