So the sale on the new LotRO Starter Bundle on Steam got me.
Fifteen bucks for like $7 worth of Turbine points, a mount, a token for +25% exp that lasts until like level 65, and three quest packs that apparently cost something like $15-$20 on their own.
I'm still kicking myself over missing the sale packs for Spiral Knights last time, so I couldn't pass up on this one just in case.

That might be a good fit for me. At one point I played some Wow but they put out an update that made it run too slow for me to play anymore on my aging system. I wanted to start back up now that I have a new PC but I never know how much gaming time I'm going to have so I feel like I'm wasting the monthly fee when I don't play for awhile. If it was a one time buy I wouldn't feel bad if I slack off and don't play.
Is Imagine Earth not working for anyone else? I click Play, I get the blue circle thing, and then it goes away and nothing happens.
It's working ok for me. At least to the point I'm at in the Tutorial... Odd.
A quick googlefu revealed nothing either. Granted I only did a few basic searches. The Steam forums thread I found on the LU'11 demos don't mention anything either. Hmm..
I take that back. Someone mentions it's not working for him either. He found their (http://www.imagineearth.info/?lang=en) but other than that, doesn't mention a fix of any kind.
Ridge Racer Unbounded is 50% off already? didn't that just come out? But man.. I love some racing games. Fuck.
Unbounded is nothing like previous games in the series, but it looks like a pretty fun arcade racer.
Calling it "Ridge Racer" is basically Namco shitting in the mouths of RR fans though.
There are ridge racer fans? I mean, really? Is anyone a dedicated fan of the RR franchise these days? Better this than they release another warmed over installment as a launch title for each new portable system and the gaming public responding with a collective shrug.
Warlock is pretty decent, but the AI lets it down after turn 100 or so. They keep on pumping (relatively) weak units which you grind to getting their cities. The initial part is quite fun though, exploring, encountering super strong 'barbarian' monsters etcet.

Does the Dungeons of Dredmor DLC add any significant early-game variety, or is it more for the "100 hours in and it's still not enough" crowd?
Since you pick skills at the very beginning of the game, and there are 4 new skills, then yes. Of course, you won't SEE some of them until late game, but still.

Okay, cool. This is a recurring problem for me. I don't like buying DLC at the outset because I never know how invested in the game I'll end up being, but on the other hand discountsssss

Finally diving into Metro 2033. My first impressions after an hour or two: it's beautiful and creepy as hell.
Youre running SLId 670s yeah? Whats your frame rate like?
Im sort of tempted to sell my 570 and grab a 670 since I will sometimes hit the VRAM cap.
Mostly hovering between 60 and 90 FPS, with every setting maxxed out, running at 1920x1080. =]
God damn it.
Looks like I cant do the EVGA upgrade thing since 1) my cards not eligible and 2) I bought it in 2011.
Unemployment is no fun
Yeah, that program is very strict, it seems. Only valid for 90 days from date of purchase. Requires UPC and original receipt. AND it's only valid on cards with lifetime warranties, or if you purchased an extende warranty.
But yeah, I'm glad I went ahead with the two 670s. Now I'm tempted to add a couple extra monitors to really make use of them. But I don't know if I could even fit them on my desk... Which means I may need a new desk... Vicious cycle, etc, etc.
Everything looks beautiful when you're young and pretty
fyi for the paradox weekend, from the stream I gathered the games are KA, M&B, Magicka, and I have a sneaking feeling that they are gonna do a broad "grand strategy" day rather then just CK2. Just a guess however.

Sorry, I meant Realm of the Diggle Gods specifically. And it's not that I mind paying the 1€ extra to try it out, but I've played games that I actually enjoyed less post-DLC because some of the added features stuck out like a sore thumb, and Steam doesn't have a consistent option for disabling DLC. I've yet to play the game though, so maybe I'll end up appreciating even the late-game stuff.
The extra 5 floors from Realm of the Diggle Gods are optional. Other than that, it just adds the option of a female character, new skill choices and new monsters. Probably new items, too? In any case, they fit very well with the base game.
There's really no reason to play without it if you have the option.

Just dropping by to say DON'T buy King Arthur 2. It is terrible, lazily made, poorly programmed, and extremely shallow. If you want a game like that (but actually good), buy literally any of the Total War games. An actual thing the devs said after release of the game, when so many people with good PCs were complaining about FPS being at a constant ~20, was that "20 is good and your eyes can't see better than that, so that is what we are aiming for."

Lord of the Rings Online is a pretty solid MMO, at least back when I played it. Of course, that was in 2007, long before it went free to play. Still, I believe it's the only non-WoW MMO I ever subscribed to for a while. It's rooted in the books, not the movie. Weathertop really impressed me when I saw it. I'm not sure how the visuals hold up now, though.

The King Arthur Collection being on sale has got me on the fence here, despite what you've said about King Arthur 2. I'm doing the "I'm not entirely sure I'd like the game, but IT'S ON SALE" thing

Oh. Yes. That DLC adds quite a FEW new skill trees. Also tons of new monsters and such. To every floor.

Yeah it is, for sure, extremely cheap so I doubt anyone is going to regret their purchase. You could probably pull some enjoyment out of it if you just didn't know about the Total War series, or if you really don't mind terrible mechanics and terrible, dishonest developers.

I've been having great fun with the first game the last few weeks. Not sure if he's talking about the game style of the game (which he does make it sound, but I think he's really just miffed about the performance), but personally I love the way they made 1, I assume 2 is more of the same, although yes, it had a *lot* of problems on launch from what I heard. It had about 7 patches I think though, not sure where it stands now.

The first game is a lot of fun until the end when balance flies out the window and the game stops trying to compete on an even playing field by constantly pulling fully stacked high level armies out of nowhere.

The game is a shameless copy of Total War with "RPG" tacked on, but the "RPG" amounts to just reading something and clicking a button. The battles themselves are ridiculously shallow and basic. The game is poorly developed, poorly balanced, and poorly realized. So, no, I am not just "miffed" about how terribly it runs.
I really wanted it to be a good series, but it's a soulless copy of another series and the main defining feature of the games is poorly done.

Your opinion is based on 36 minutes of play?
What? No, not at all.
Do you know that Steam doesn't count offline play minutes? Do you know I spend a good amount of my time away from an internet connection, traveling? Some of my most played games have a playtime of under an hour because of that. A game I also play a lot, Shogun 2, has a ton of playtime but is also missing a lot of achievements I should have because I guess going from offline to online is buggy or resets them.
