Outside of The Elder Scrolls, Gothic, Risen, Two Worlds, and I guess some Bioware games, what are some good RPG games where you only control one character on the PC and preferably Steam?

I would roll with Deus Ex, personally. Either the first one or the most recent one.

Divinity 2 - The Dragon Knight saga has been pretty well received/well reviewed, but I haven't got a chance to put much time into it yet.

The Witcher/ Witcher 2. Haven't played them but they're generally held in a good light.
Steam/Origin: Shimshai

Humble bundle added a bunch of games to things if you already bought it.
Super Meat Boy, Lone Survivor, and Braid.
Steam key is on your original download page, and you should have a email telling you about this.
That is unless someone already posted, in which case theres nothing to see here and you should carry on.
Yeah, this is a crazy good bundle. SMB is awesome. Personally I think Braid is a little overhyped, but it's not bad. I didn't have lone survivor though. I heard it's terrifying?
Outside of The Elder Scrolls, Gothic, Risen, Two Worlds, and I guess some Bioware games, what are some good RPG games where you only control one character on the PC and preferably Steam?
Borderlands, Divinity 2, Dragon Age (origins is superior), E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy (highly complicated), Fallout (all of them are on Steam, NV is the easiest these days to get into), Mount & Blade (although you do end up having an army...but you can largely ignore them and let the AI do the work while you empire build), Torchlight (and the upcoming Torchlight 2), and the X3 series if you like space.
the X3 stuff is really great if you like space empires and sandbox games. Although it does need to be modded pretty heavily, simply because some resourceful players have produced mods infinitely better than what's already there in terms of what happens in the sandbox. It's also best played with a joystick. It's mostly an empire building game, but you are definitely an individual.
I always recommend them to anyone who likes space sims. Get Albion Prelude.

I hope the humble bundle does something awesome on the last 24 hours to boost sales like add Magicka and a pair of other games.
Because then people would have to throw money at them again because its gotten to the point that you should be dragged outside and beaten if your not willing to pay $8.24 for those games.

Braid is indeed crazy overhyped, all of the "narrative" is overwrought meaningless dramatic garbage, and Jonathan Blow is a pretentious tool.
But if you go in treating it just like a pretty good puzzle platformer, there is enjoyment to be had.
Outside of The Elder Scrolls, Gothic, Risen, Two Worlds, and I guess some Bioware games, what are some good RPG games where you only control one character on the PC and preferably Steam?
Kingdom of Amalur. Actually really good.
Ys Oath of Felghana or Origins. Hard games though, much more actiony.
Dead Island, Dungeon Siege 3, Dark heroes of might and magic? jade empire, neverwinter nights technically, since your hires just follow you around and kinda do their own thing. Or you can just not even hire anyone and truck alone. (Shame 2 isnt on Steam anymore.)

The Witcher/The Witcher 2 are both very good.
Divine Divinity as well, and Eschalon
Does it matter whether I start with Book II or I? The 5 out of 10 review I read actually makes me want it more.

I should really get back to Eschalon Book I and Punch Wizard.
Punch Wizard was a pretty fun character if I remember right.
It depends on a lot on what you want out of your RPG.
Dead Island is a zombiebeating sandbox, that has many rpg aspects not is pretty much devoid of story choices. You get told to go to place A to do B, and then you do it. It has nice drop in/drop out coop.
Witcher 1/2 is very storyheavy with moral choices, a decent combat system, 2 especially is quite pretty too. The background is dark twist on fairly standard fantasy stuff.
Kingdom of Amalur is a really straight action rpg. You hit stuff with your weapon because people tell you to.
Deus Ex HR is a cyberpunk fps-RPG with 'dialogue fighting' (I forget the ingame term for it), story heavy, mission based.
Bastion is an indiegame action RPG that focuses heavily on the narrator.
The Avadon series a oldschool rpgs (They are party based though)
The Ys games are console ported action jrpgs and quite popular.
Hmm. Imagine Earth isn't too bad, though the pause button seems a little off and I'm constantly struggling for cash/power/food/consumer goods in the tutorial.
The Ys games are console ported action jrpgs and quite popular.
Minor correction: the Ys games on Steam are not actually console ports. Oath in Felghana was actually ported from the PC to the PSP, while Origin has only had a PC release.
And yeah, the Ys series is known for its excellent music.
MaddocI'm Bobbin Threadbare, are you my mother?Registered Userregular
Yeah, it's a minor nitpick, but the entire Ys series (with the exception of Ys 7 and one version of Ys 5) were PC games first, and ported to consoles afterward. Or sometimes not ported to console at all.
Get it if you want it otherwise a lurker/ninja will. And please to be letting us know if it's been used.

Just wanted to thank you guys for the Costume Quest recommendation. My wife is currently enthralled with it, although she was not having fun until we plugged in the 360 controller. All is good now, though!

Costume Quest was exactly the right recommendation. That game is fricking adorable.

It's one of the games I still need to rebuy from getting rid of my 360 actually. I'm kind of assuming I'll be able to find it cheap at some point...I dind't make it terribly far in I don't think.
Kind of wish I had played games tonight instead of wasting my time on the Celtics game - I'm thinking I would have had much more fun killing Orcs or trying to get through Binding of Isaac.

Titans quest if we're counting arpgs.
KoA is good, but it needs a patch it isnt going to get since the company has gone tits up.
I noticed that steam news just posted that Game of Thrones was out. Confused because it had been in my library for a while unplayable but hopeful that the news meant it would work now.
Turns out yes!
The menus had real options in them! Not only that but the game actually loaded past the first cutscene. Now I can actually give it a shot. not tonight though. It's bed time

Costume Quest is kind of a favorite of mine. I own it on 360, PS3, and Steam. And yeah, don't try to play it without a controller. It's damn near impossible to play with the keyboard. I have no idea what they were thinking when they set up the PC controls.

It had the Bastion keyboard control problem. Isometric angles not being mapped directly to up/down/left/right. Made it miserable to try to move straight down a street. So much nicer with an analog stick.

For those who aren't aware, Bastion is a fantastic game, and easily one of the best indie games I've ever played. If you're not aware, it's probably because you haven't played it.
Here's a key for it from the Indie Bundle, activates on Steam, free to good home. First one to use it, or find out that it's used, quote this and strike it out and I'll edit this post. Enjoy.

I'd say a patch would be nice, but it doesn't need one. I didn't have any technical issues, at least. Balance could be better (it's too easy) but it's not terrible.
