I'm at a complete loss, there are tons of options out there, it's dizzying. Most important features: 1080p, 23-24 inches, HDMI input, works well with a macbook pro. I'm mostly going to use it for text-editing and Diablo / Guild Wars.

Asus makes great monitors. You're going to need a mini-hdmi to hdmi adapter though.
That does look good. I've been trying to find something I can pick up today in Portland but it looks like brick and motar stores don't have a great selection of monitors these days.
DVI, HDMI (not mini), and D-Sub connections. Mediocre speakers, if you'd actually use them. Good picture. The base is my biggest complaint about it (very simplistic).
I got my 27" Asus for ~300 bucks. You can probably go up to 27" if you want.
e: And I bought my 27" Asus down in Wilsonville Cpunk, at Fry's.
Yeah, I got a 27" Samsung during the Newegg holiday sale for $250. Good deals can be had. Really, really, really good investment. My real estate for Guild Wars 2 is awesome and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Both are pretty much the best bang for your buck in existence.
