Just to be sure; Can you save your progress mid-way through an act? Does it do it automatically at points or are what?
My only experience is with the starter edition and I completed it, then logged off for the night. Came back on today to check out advanced tooltips etc but I'm back at the beginning.
I hope this was only a starter edition thing.
Every time the game goes "schwinggg, Checkpoint Reached" it has essentially saved your location to that point. If you die you will respawn there, and if you quit the game you have the option of "resuming" at that point again, even if it's in a dungeon. If you completed the demo then most likely what happened is you had no quest to "resume" so when you hit start you had The Fallen Star selected and it started you at the beginning again. This works both ways though, and you can skip back forward to the quest to kill Leoric since you've gotten to it previously.
Awesome thanks! That last bit helps greatly because i'm just short of level 10 and I want to see what that will bring before trying another class.
I would love to see some more control over my chat window plus some custom channels. Would add a lot to the game to be able to chew the fat with others as I play.
I haven't tested it yet, but can you 'link' items to people like in WoW? Because with all the random shit in this game, that would help a lot, rather than having to type out to my friend "this thing has X stat, Y stat, Z stat, +xp/mon kill, socket, XYZ dps, etc, etc, etc" rather thank just "shift click IS THIS GOOD FOR YOU OR SHOULD I SELL IT?"
Hell, if they just copy-pasted the chat interface from WoW I'd probably be set for the rest of my game days in terms of communicating with people. Couple of chat channels for crafting/grouping with PA'ers, one for other assorted friends, go to town.
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!

Heh. I just went down the Quality Well in the Old Tristram ruins.
All of the zombies down there are named after the QA Leads and Specialists. Apparently, Blizzard QA guys live in dark wells full of gold.
Well I just saw them do act 4 hell because they were testing boss tactics. Kripp is very well geared enough to make act4 hell a joke for him to tank. I was surprised by this. I thought they still had straight out of hell gear but nope they've got some inferno gear. Still they are woefully under geared for act 4 inferno.
* The Real Money Auction House is the worst idea Activision has ever forced upon Blizzard, and they should be ashamed of themselves.
My impression is that it's either the RMAH, or subscription fees for all of us. Battle.net for Diablo 3 won't pay for itself, you know. I'll probably poke my head in the RMAH once in a while, but it's not FOR me. If the RMAH will keep the Diablo 3 servers running for the next gajillion years, I accept it. I don't plan to sell on it or use it.
But that's the beauty: I don't have to.
Oh no no no. They could have put all this stuff client side and it would have been absolutely fine. You are putting your either or premise too far down the chain of logic. They made it a streaming client-server game to justify the RMTAH to justify the streaming client-server game.
Why do I picture you sitting there reading, reading, reading this thread... waiting... like a cat, ready to pounce...
with absolutely nothing better to do.
Actually, it's more akin to me checking it every few quests, and failing to realize that the thread has gotten 10+ pages in the interm. :P

Finished my single player run of normal. Anyone up for some nightmare action starting from the beginning. Guessing I can't jump in to games I haven't done the chapters for yet. Battletag in sig and on the pa list.
This is my first Diablo, but the mowing down of enemies while traversing corridors was giving me deja vu. Then it occurred to me: Gauntlet for Dreamcast.
So I just logged into Act 2 Normal. The AH is down as mentioned, but all of the vendors are GONE. WTF
Edit; Switched back to Act 1 and created a game. The vendors are in town but I can't click on them.
I think theres a part in Act 2 where everyone leaves the town. Or theres a bug where everyone leaves the town since it happened for me too.
Just happened to me, it's the last quest of Act 2 that does it. Would be nice if they waited until after the sequence was actually started before they did that (and why remove the dude in the camp?).

First thing that went through my head first time I saw a Barb do Siesmic Slam was "PLASMA TRAIL!", no foolin'. Do any of the runes turn it red?

I don't play Barbarian at the moment. But I'm at Act 4 and I have a Lvl 1 Barbarian named Durk ready to go when I'm done.
And another thing they have in common in terms of stories nobody gives a shit about. It sits there and hypes whatever up villian/boss forever and ever while you do little quests and mow down mooks to get to it. I'd say that part is more familiar to me than anything else. That was triggering my deja vu more than anything.
Ok, Inferno's bosses aren't actually cakewalk to solo.
Butcher's hook oneshots me. It's easy to avoid, but I got a pretty slow weapon so occassionally I get caught due to the slow cast animations. I can spirit walk out of that, but I'd rather save spirit walks for avoiding the otherwise unavoidable hook barrage thingy, which does around 20k damage on me. Now, this would all be fine, except when ALL THE FLOOR IS ON FIRE. I don't have enough dps to kill Butcher before there comes a moment when every single square starts burning at the same time. Partially that's cause I have to keep moving all the time, but also apparently the fight's a damn gearcheck :<
Maybe if I switched build for that fight, but I really want to keep that sweep nephalem buff. Meh
That's cool that you're in inferno. Act 3 here. It's totally normal to spend 5 minutes kiting/graveyard rushing an elite pack and accidentally pull 2 more packs of regular mobs while we run around like chickens with our heads cut off. I can't imagine inferno. I was thinking should I kill weak stuff fast or hard stuff slow/lots of dying. I think hard stuff slow is the way to go because the loot quality difference between act 4 inferno and act 1 inferno is huge for example.
so how are the server's doing for everyone else? my ping is varying between 90 and 2000 and i'm trying to figure out if it's me or them ,leaning toward sthem

mostly fine, though I do experience the occasional lag spike. Lost a treasure goblin that way once

I haven't killed any Goblins in a while. As of Act 2 they got smart (lucky) and started diving into enemy hoards.
Anyone want to team up with a Lv18 Witch Doctor and Wizard? We're playing right now and will be for several hours, we're not far into Act 2, my friend and I. We usually play at late hours of the night.

If I'm asking for something they've already given us, then that's awesome.
They farmed the same chest for about two hours got some upgrades and then they went on to finishing Act 2

I would've just tried it, but I'm still at work on my 3rd hour of overtime.
Fucking massive projects, biting into my prime 'murdering prime evils' time.
Oh well, Avengers (again) tonight, hanging with friends saturday, endless Diablo 3 marathon sunday/monday/first week of June.
I think so, probably only on higher difficulties I bet.
I've seen a few up on the AH already.
