So, question - anyone know why I am getting "Failed to find a match" every time I launch? I haven't gotten a game yet.
There's been a hardware failure at their data center. Russ said it's being worked on, but since they're not directly involved in the hardware side of things he can't give an estimate on when it'll be back to normal.
Beta is working as intended! If only the last mech I was screwing around with wasn't a catapult with no armor in an arm, 3 mediums, and an AC10. Right now I try to help out by ramming into other mechs.

For new people I got it working. I had to go into my profile on the website, then my forum profile and edit it to add my birth date. It worked right away after that.
Guess double heat sinks are getting bumped to the top of their implementation queue~~

So, if anyone knows any friends who have played both MWO anD the Living Legends Crysis mod, how do they compare? I'm finding LL pretty awesome, although a tad clunky feeling; easy to get tripepd up on a small rock or whatnot. Tanks are cool, though.

I am a legendary founder, name Grouchy. And all founders have been sent invitations for closed beta.
That is all I am saying, although I have been pretending with some quesions...
Turns out a AC unit at their server farm crapped out. I expect this will not be resolved till Monday sometime.
Probably. I dunno if server farms have doods on call for that sort of thing.
A DC will usually usually have onsite staff who can be used for that. But that kind of service is ruinously expensive and often vastly more time consuming than it should be, especially because DC staff tend to be generalists, rather than specialists. (I once had to have a single cisco line-card replaced in a remote DC. What should have been a two hour process ended up taking nine, and costing close to ten grand). In a production environment, its almost always more efficient to have reasonably local on-call staff for this sort of thing. Or to build your own DC, if you're big enough and in the right business, which MWO certainly won't be. But on call staff isn't cheap either and until they know what their production needs are, I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't hired anyone (or possibly are hoping to go to a more fully hosted solution, where server and network maintenance is completely hands off. Which has problems of its own). [FWIW, my experience is almost entirely in high-availability financial systems, with a smattering of ISP and hosting. The challenges will be similar, but the cost structure could be very different --banks stand to lose vast sums of money from network outages, and are thus more willing to invest than some industries].

So are the founders mech's worth it? Whats the difference between them and the regular version? 60$ is alot of money for 1 of them....
The only difference is the color scheme and/or other minor aesthetic changes (I guess?) and the fact the founders 'mechs will have better C-Bill and EXP earn rates. If you've ever played World of Tanks, they're like the premium tanks.

While I appreciate the intent and the scale of the undertaking in LL, I honestly enjoy MWO a lot more than LL already even though MWO has a long way to go. LL is pretty serious for a mod, but it's still horribly clunky and buggy and doesn't make much of an effort to really balance out the game. Sure, LL has tons and tons of mech variants, but they don't matter much because people just pick the winning-est builds. I could also probably name a half-dozen major, glaring bugs and issues right off the top of my head for LL, but that's a deep hole. Then there's also the old problems of pinpoint alpha strikes and poptarting. Basically, big problems.
I'd say the only two places that LL definitely has an edge on MWO right now are map scale and combined operations warfare, but only the latter of those is a clear advantage. The MWO testing means the devs want people mixing things up as much as possible to find as many problems as possible, not have them lost on enormously huge maps with tiny teams, so the maps right now aren't very big. But theoretically, Cryengine 3 could support some pretty enormous stuff. As for combined ops, I don't know if MWO will ever include things like tanks and aerospace fighters, and I'm honestly not too concerned about it. I can drive tanks or fly planes in plenty of games, but basically no new, good games center around mechs.
In the end, LL feels like clunky, buggy, well-meant mod, but MWO is already shaping up to feel like a properly-envisioned game. Mech toughness makes lighter mechs useful and teamplay invaluable, and MWO is going to be adding a slew of teamplay elements as well. Weapons and variants are getting balanced to try and replicate the use of certain mech builds while simultaneously combating crazy-powerful boat builds and allowing for useful mech customization. The Piranha devs also have a definite interest in the background fiction, so I cannot wait to see what comes out of the factions.
That's not to say that LL isn't pretty impressive for an amateur attempt, but I already enjoy the bare bones of MWO more than I ever really enjoyed LL.
Well at 60 bucks you also get 80 dollars in game currency, two months premium, and then the founder's mech (like a premium tank from World of tanks, gives you 25% extra XP and C-bills per match).

The founder's mech's have a lifetime +25% C-bill bonus and a custom color scheme. It's the Premium Account that gives you +50% Cbills and +50% XP. The four mechs are the "prime" variants (JR7-D, HBK-4G, CPLT-C1, AS7-D) so will have the same hardpoints as those variants, but you can customize them like any other mech. At this point you can still go in and change your founder mech selection after you buy, so if you try it out in the beta and don't like it you can change.

Yeah, I've never seen an official source stating (or in any way even implying) that the Founder's 'Mechs come with any XP bonuses. As far as I can tell that's a rumor that won't die, probably arising from people conflating the premium account bonuses with the Founder's C-Bill bonus.

It is unfortunate that the founders mechs are variant-locked. C-Bills and XP, sure, but an Atlas-D can't take three SRM6es and two UAC/5s, and that makes me sad.

I am debating going in on the Founder's program, because my game buying has been low this year so I have the cash.
But I have heard this game runs like shit on a dual-core?
I have an Intel E8400 at 3.4 GHz with 4 GB 1066 DDR2 and an nVidia GTX 285 2 GB. Is this going to be unplayable at reasonable quality on my PC?

Q: How are the 'Mechs different from the 'Mechs already ingame other than the fact that they earn more XP and Cbills? (I'm thinking hardpoint wise)
A: Yes the hard point are the same. Less unique but this also means that they will take the place of the prime variant in the Mech trees so you will already be on your way with that path. Also for clarity it is a C-Bill booster not XP
Premium account gives a boost to both but the Mech gives a boost to C-Bills.
Trust me over a lifetime of the product this is a really powerfull thing

Oh I don't need a founders mech then, I thought it was said they actaully were mechanically different way before. I'll jump in on the smallest level for sure...

Is this game as good as world of tanks though?
Well, in spite of the amount of time and money I've invested in it, I wouldn't even call World of Tanks a "good" game. I think it's a pretty broken game, actually, although the fact they're finally, in theory, tweaking the matchmaking system (only after players have been consistently pointing out how shitty it was for a good year and a half or since whenever live release was) is a sign of improvement...except that the ongoing power creep and introduction of chronologically later and later vehicles will probably break it even more. If there were any other comparable game I would play it instead but I LOVE TANKS so welp.
I digress. What I'm trying to say is I dearly hope MWO will be a much better game than World of Tanks.

I guess that depends on how long you think your going to play with a premium account. More than 1 month, you might as well get the elite since you essentially get the mech for free.

Some things demand to be taken out of context.
This is one of them.
Feel free...I have no shame.
That being said an AC20 can be fun
PSN: Bizazedo
CFN: Bizazedo (I don't think I suck, add me).
(Yes, I know you meant air-conditioning. It's early on a Monday and I'm not entirely awake, so I still think I'm funny.)
Sounds like there should be some sort of joke here about them alpha-ing and overheating. It's to early and I can't find that joke.
