So are the founders mech's worth it? Whats the difference between them and the regular version? 60$ is alot of money for 1 of them....
The only difference is the color scheme and/or other minor aesthetic changes (I guess?) and the fact the founders 'mechs will have better C-Bill and EXP earn rates. If you've ever played World of Tanks, they're like the premium tanks.
Is this game as good as world of tanks though?
Well, in spite of the amount of time and money I've invested in it, I wouldn't even call World of Tanks a "good" game. I think it's a pretty broken game, actually, although the fact they're finally, in theory, tweaking the matchmaking system (only after players have been consistently pointing out how shitty it was for a good year and a half or since whenever live release was) is a sign of improvement. If there were any other comparable game I would play it instead but I LOVE TANKS so welp.
I digress. What I'm trying to say is I dearly hope MWO will be a much better game than World of Tanks.
It's too early to make a direct quality comparison with MWO, but yeah, WoT has its share of issues. I've been on hiatus from WoT for quite a while now and haven't felt the urge to go back yet. I'm guessing I still will sometime, but for now I'm content to mess around with Civ 5 and wish my computer could run MWO properly.
I will say that if PGI can execute on their vision for MWO at least as well as Wargaming did with WoT, I think I'll prefer MWO over WoT. I feel like they have a better overall design philosophy. One good sign, for example, is their assertion that they won't introduce anything like premium ammo that confers an in-game advantage in exchange for real money. Even though gold ammo and consumables didn't ruin WoT by any means, they were still shitty on a conceptual level. Other basic mechanical things they've done like implementing lasers as a short-duration DoT-style beam are encouraging.
But again, too early to tell. There's a reason the NDA is still in place; the game needs a good while in the oven yet. There's still a huge amount of room for them to either make the game fantastic or really fuck it up. All I can advise for someone considering a Founder's purchase is that you gather all the information you can find about the game, decide what your level of risk tolerance is, and do a quick cost/benefit analysis.
I'm willing to buy founder's package if this game is good, but I can't find any info about that from non biased sources.
Again, it's too early to say that the game is good now. It might be good later, that's about all that can be said with certainty. If you aren't comfortable gambling on it a bit, you probably shouldn't buy a Founder's package.

So is there a good "how to play this game" guide anywhere? I tried the forums but it's mostly info about the game and its development, not like...in game tips. It sounds like it plays quite differently from MW4:M which is the one I spent the most time with.
I wanna get in and Catapult fools all day erry day. Love the design on it. So cool looking. But I've always been a sucker for reverse-joint legs, prominent cockpits like that, and big missile racks.

Well, LL has reawakened my inner mech-pilot, and you guys seem pretty happy with MWO... So yeah, I'll bite. Probably grab the Vet pack, but I don't know which mech I'd get... leaning towards the Atlas, since it's probably the most expensive in-game.

If there were any other comparable game I would play it instead but I LOVE TANKS so welp.

It already is imo. No dodgy spotting mechanics, no penetration mechanics that would make light mechs a gigantic joke, maps that aren't comprised entirely of shitty choke points and actually reward good maneuvering, etc. I've completely given up on WoT now that I'm in the MWO beta.

Not really tbh. You'll need to adjust your loadouts and mech design theory, but all the things you learned about maneuvering, circling, ensuring damage gets spread across your armor segments, and managing your heat are still very much relevant.

So while we wait for a matchmaking system, it can be pretty annoying to face teams that spam Atlases.
On the other hand, it totally kicks ass when you come up against a group of dickweeds who decided to throw out a bunch of short-range SRM-boating Atlases and ruin their day with proper teamwork without having a single Atlas on your side. It's especially great when you end up with a couple of those Atlases huddling together at their base in the hopes of picking your team off, but you drop a bunch of LRMs on them and then jump them all at once.
I don't think it'll ever get old watching a bunch of cocky Atlas pilots fight for their lives and get smashed after believing they'll get an easy win.
The trick to successfully running an SRM-boat Atlas is to equip weapons that are not SRMs to go along with it. Like dual UAC/5s in separate weapon groups for maximum camera-shake on the receiving end.
You guys keep saying stuff like "It needs more time in the oven" But on the web site it says the head start for official release starts in about 8 days?

No Aug 7 is the start of Closed Beta 2, when Founder's mechs will be added into the game. I suppose you could call it a head start, since all you have to do to play now is throw down some cash, even though their might still be account resets. But they still have Open Beta to get through before release.

Yeah, I've got no idea where anybody got the idea that August 7th is the release date, or even where people got the idea that the game will go full release by the end of the summer. There's a lot of bitching from dumb beta players who can't bother to get informed that MWO is "doomed" because it's way too early for release; I'm betting they're to blame for the proliferation of bad info.
Basically, no shit that the game isn't ready. The devs know that already. August 7th was simply the official Founders entry date, but the Founders are already in. And even then, the game will still be in Closed Beta until at least late summer, after which it goes into Open Beta. There hasn't even been a hint that the official release is anything closer than months away.
That's not even insider info, either. PGI has stated on multiple occasions what their schedule is, and most of it isn't even solid yet.
So yeah, if somebody tells you the release is anything earlier than months from now, they're full of it.

edit: ER PPCs and heat sinks are also good.
I loathe the fact that amount of enemy camera shake is a viable attack tactic.
That being said, I just got in with the founder's stuff, and I think it's worth it. The game is playable in its current state, and this is a good opportunity to bang around and mess with mech variants that you might not otherwise touch (Can anyone explain why in the world I'd use a Dragon? They're universally bad) because every so often they'll still do wipes.
I'm finding the default Awesome to be quite a beast. Once I stopped alpha striking everything and started rotating PPC shots my effectiveness went right up.
This game will definitely make me break out my old technical readouts to try and figure out which variant mechs I like best.
"Sometimes things aren't complicated," I said. "You just have to be willing to accept the absolute corruption of everybody involved."

FYI, devs have definitely stated that, aside from the saying you're in the beta, the rest of the NDA rules apply. So no more public talking about the MWO beta, at least from me.
Can't blame them, though. They do have an obligation to protect themselves by stemming the potential flow of bad information.

Errr...that's Mechwarrior 101, weapons having a physical impact on your enemy to throw off their aim.
A lot of people make the mistake of spazzing out with the mouse when they get camera shaking in an attempt to stay on target, when that's not necessary. The shaking effect is purely visual. As long as you don't move the mouse (or continue to move it as if you weren't shaking), your weapons will go where you want them to.

Shouldn't torso weapons go off aim?

So, if you don't buy into the Founder's program (at the appropriate levels), you can never have access to those four very common mechs?
So, if you don't buy into the Founder's program (at the appropriate levels), you can never have access to those four very common mechs?
You just don't get the Founders versions that come with zebra striped interiors, spinners, underlights, and a hydraulic lift system. The basic versions are still available to buy via c-bills/funbux.

you just wont get the "founders" editions of those mechs which have a slight boost to xp and c-bills earned, and a slightly different skin.
but anyone can buy the regular variants of those mechs with either c-bills or mc.

Should? Yes. But they don't, since weapon impacts do not cause any actual movement in the target.

Ballistics are not perfect but they are significantly better than they were last week. I can now land most of my shots.

Hmmm..put my settings to Very High, 1920*1080, full screen, and it's a 1 frame per 3 second slideshow. Thoughts? My computer is way more than beefier enough to handle this.
Sorry Esh...the game has no way to change quality settings right now....other than the blanket setting. I didn't' notice a difference between low and high. What kind of CPU do you have?..it's very CPU dependent.
Ballistics are not perfect but they are significantly better than they were last week. I can now land most of my shots.
No, they haven't changed at all. If you're noticing any difference, it's because you, personally, are getting better at predicting what the system is going to do.
When I was using a AC last week there was significant lag in between firing and when the shot left...and it didn't even fire through the cross hairs. I have not been using them consistently enough to have learned how to compensate.
