the first day looks like it's just filled with eating sweets. Perhaps we should walk everywhere to burn off the calories.
I had this realization today too: donuts for breakfast, potentially greasy lunch, chocolate and ice cream in the afternoon. You'd think I'm trying to fatten you guys up before PAX.
Speaking of ice cream, if Full Tilt has anything Elvis themed in the case, GET IT. It means bacon ice cream in some form or another. Otherwise, everything they do is amazing, and the have a feeeenominal selection of vegan ice creams on the right too! My personal fave is the Honey-Lavender.
This sounds amazing - holiday being approved at the last minute and flights mean I get in from the UK on the Monday, so was wondering how to see some Seattle! Can I still put myself to tag along on the Wed and Thur? Will be interested in the two tours as well.
@punzie looks like my name is in bold for attendees list. Pretty sure i didn't pay for the tours. Cause i wont be joining the tour on Wed, only Thurs. Not a huge deal, just want to make sure i'm not being counted as 'in' for those events.
UPDATE: prepaying through Eventbrite is now done. If you still want to join us on the Duck or Theo chocolate tours, follow the directions in the OP (under the Prepaying header). I purchased tickets this afternoon so everyone who did prepay through Eventbrite has a ticket and need not worry. @blueglimmer: this info is relevant to you.
@jimmywild: I made a small html snafu so everyone below Decius was bolded. It should be fixed now.
Ok. I am going to do my BEST to fulfill all of these orders and bring them with me. Please note that they will be purchased Tuesday evening, so If you are getting them later in the week, please allow for adjustment (( have a fridge in my room, to preserve as neeeded.)
If you are NOT doing the MMT, I can make arrangements via Twitter to meet near the convention center (I am staying at the Camlin, 1 block away)
I Need to get pricing from VooDoo as well to confirm, as each donut price is different, but looks like at least 1 dozen Maple bacons are going into the order along with a few C&B (perverts )
I'll compile the list tomorrow and lock it down so I have time to make sure. so if you change your mind, remove your post before tomorrow PM so I can adjust. and Chaos..this was a new thing because a bunch of people are ex Portlanders so we're dealing with their donut habits)
I think I might be able to make CK work I honestly don't know my full pre-pax schedule..but getting these off my hands quicker will make them enjoyed sooner
For the financials, it looks like it'll prolly be 2-2.50 per donut..just going to keep it a flat rate once I get the totals since everyone is getting specialized anyways (like you'd order a maple bar anyways w/o the bacon LOL)
If solelron can't make it to card kingdom Wednesday night, I can bring the donut(s). If you guys trust me, that is
Solelron: I was going to say surprise me on my donut type, but that maple bacon sure does sound good. And it seems breakfast appropriate too
Chaos: you are terrible for missing pax so we are making you pay. (just kidding. Love you )
SoleIron: the C&Bs are $5+ each. Possibly $6, allowing for inflation. They are also a bit large, unless they've started chintzing on them. They generally fit neatly kitty corner in a square box. You may need handtruck for so many doughnuts!
@phoo I was afraid at least one of them would be that much, but thats ok..if people are ready for that cost and I know I'm getting my coverage back i'm happy LOL and happy to do it cause its fun to show off the locals!
Yah it is spendy, but where else can I engage in that activity in public without being scorned or arrested? ;D I think the voodoo doll may be a little more spendy than the average doughnuts as well. I just hope they have kept up their quality in their intervening years. There are many things I miss about Portland, and Voodoo Doughnuts are at the top of the list. In fact, last time I went to pdx, I was there for maybe 24 hours and thus did not get my VD fix (wait, those initials are very wrong...).
I also miss speaking to strangers and having them speak to me back.
Do they still have free Swahili lessons on Mondays? I know they stopped for awhile, but were starting back up again.
Ok. here are the prices (rounded up to 50 cent marks to make it easier to process as I do plan on having some cash on me. if one you selected is not on list, assume 2.00 unless you talk to me about one directly.
I was at VooDoo donuts last month and noticed that some things have changed ( the lines at all three locations are atrocious 24-hrs per day) but the quality is perhaps better than ever.
I attribute this to the fact that massive crowds all the time means the donuts are always really fresh. Maybe not by the time they get to the MMT crowd in Seattle, but still delicious!!
LG: That's great to hear. They deserve the business. I remember when they just had the 1 hole-in-the-wall business. If they squished, 5 people could stand up in it. And the Voodoo Dolls and C&Bs didn't have chocolate on them (but I would never complain about extra chocolate!).
Punzie: What you want is a Mango Tango or Tangfastic. They both have tang on them, but one is filled with mango jelly.
I think we'll try for Duck tickets on site..on a wednesday morning should have a good chance of getting a few seats ..if not..I'll just wave with my box of donuts (which I should return to my room anyways LOL)
@Solelron - Okay quick story about VooDoo Donuts (sorry for the thread departure Zer, I'll make it brief). When my boyfriend and his buddy did the Seattle-to-Portland Bike Classic last month, I bought a box of Voodoo Donuts (VD) and waited for them in the crowded park at the finish line. I swear that ever 15 seconds or so someone saw me with the box and commented on it.
It was a little oppressive and almost freaky. Once I found my guys, we left and put the box in the car, then came back.
Goddamn donut vultures.
AAAAAND back to topic. MMT!!! I'll be joining on Wednesday for the first time
I just double-checked and it's true: the chocolate tour on 8/29 at 2pm is sold out.
People who are going on the chocolate tour: for the tour they require you wear closed-toe shoes, no perfume/cologne/other smelly things, and no fur. We'll also be required to wear hairnets which they will provide.
And here's a list of suggested things to bring with you:
Good Shoes - Something comfortable for walking around all day. Also, if you're going on the Theo chocolate tour, you must be wearing closed-toe shoes.
Weather Appropriate Clothing - The weather can fluctuate. Try to plan accordingly.
Cash Monies - Especially small bills. Small bills are useful for tipping tour guides and waiters, bus fares, paying Solelron for your donut, etc.
Phone - You know, in case you get lost. Or hurt. (Neither is suggested.) Or you miss your best friend and need to hear his voice.
Water and Snacks - Our time is tightly budgeted. While lunch is worked into the schedule everyday, there likely won't be time to stop at convenience stores/coffee shops/what-have-you. If you think you may want a snack or drink, bring it with you.
Bag - Don't expect anyone else to schlep your stuff around for you.
Buttons - Did you make buttons for PAX? This is a good time to get in some early trading of said buttons.
Schedule - It could be handy to have a copy with you.
Pens and Other Small Items - General things that can come in handy: pens, paper clips, bobby pins, floss, duct tape, asprin. Stuff can go wrong. And you can play MacGuyver and fix it.
A Good Attitude - We're spending a day or 2 together. Play nice: Don't complain about things I can't fix (the walk/weather/late bus). Don't start fights. Don't feed the animals. Don't be a dick.
Just checked out times and we won't be able to make it for anything other than the 'underground' tour. We'll see how it goes with planes and such.

Can I just check that I need to print the tickets for the duck ride and chocolate tour, as I don't have a printer here. Can I use the eventbrite app instead or could someone please print them out for me? Thank you!

Is it okay that I find and join your group when you're at the underground tour Thursday afternoon? Or perhaps meeting you outside of teh EMP so I can get to know you guys. Should be easy, just find a group a people whom some will be wearing geeky shirts.
@punzie so i hear ducks and chocolate tours might be sold out? well i hear the chocolate tour is? I had another person that might want to come with us on the wed stuff
