Guns pierce defense. They do damage based solely off the strength of the weapon and ammo.

    They're also slow as heck.

Balthier (my gun user) always has Haste on him. Always.

Does that mean that Battle Lore is useless for gun wielding characters?

    No.

    Increased damage is increased damage.

Oh, thank fuck for that. I thought I'd wasted license points on battle lore for Balthier when I read that.

is there a weapon type or armor type that each character is supposed to use? or am i free to give all my people guns and tell them to go hunt dinosaurs?

If you're okay with everybody being hideously slow then go for it.

There's minor differences in stats, but really, no one is better suited to use any given equipment, unless you build them that way.

Are you kidding me? John DiMaggio!
I'm specifically talking about Tidus (James Arnold Taylor) and Yuna (Hedy Burress). But Wakka was pretty annoying too. Auron (Matt McKenzie) was freaking awesome though.

    James Arnold Taylor is Leonardo.

    That's good enough for me.

Strength IS useless, though, so don't bother with heavy armor if you're going to make someone primarily a gun user. My Balthier only switches to guns when there are flying enemies around, the rest of the time I give him an axe (high strength and vitality).

Mine had a full set of Mage armor. He could cure the sick, resurrect the dead and reduce foes to ashes all with a contemptuous flick of his hand.

That worked out well, considering he was a gun user. Kept him from charging gaily into the melee and being slaughtered from three directions at once.

One thing that FFXII does that I found annoying is the continued tradition of the useless demi-human character. Fran's stat growth ranks fourth or fifth in every single category, which is really stupid, because her crappy magic and MP don't jive with the way her character is depicted in the story.

That's not necessarily playing to his strengths, though. He's best as a tank because of his high vitality and strength, and he has the worst magic stats out of all the characters.

Not that it really matters, of course. Just makes things a tic harder in the short run.

I recently rented FFXII myself, and I was really hoping it'd be good, I'd been told so many good things about it...but I, like the topic creator, kind of just lost interest. The plot really failed to interest me, ESPECIALLY the bit where
Hay guyz it was my twin bruther olololol

That really left me feeling disappointed as hell. If he'd actually been a psycho super patriot, it'd have been much more interesting overall I felt.

I stopped paying attention to the plot about 7 hours in. Just didn't grab me in any way.

I would love this game so much more if range actually made any difference. More like Vagrant Story really. Just seemed like your character would lunge and smack Flan B when A is right infront of you. A minor niggle.

Also getting raped by bosses. Mateus in particular. Had to spend 4 hours leveling up to beat that bitch.

Her speed is one of the highest if not the highest, iirc. But yeah, you are right for the most part. I use Fran as my tank just because she's my second favorite character, but someone like Vaan floors her in nearly every category and is technically a better tank in every way.

I wound up using her as my dedicated archer/red mage whose job was basically to keep everyone's buffs going. It really makes a huge difference when you can keep everyone hasted for 80% of the game.

Yeah, I have her casting Hastega and Protectga continuously, and the other two people in the group keeping Bubble on themselves and her. That's one reason she's my leader, because it's annoying to have to stop and wait for a party member to finish casting a buff.

I'm playing through it now, and have just left Barheim to return to Rabanastre. I'm enjoying it a fair bit, but find myself having to fight off the urge to go back into cleared areas on the off-chance that a chest might appear that wasn't there before. My RPG OCD is telling me that I'm going to miss some one-time only treats if I don't double-check everything, and it's annoying as all hell. I'd be grateful if someone could assure me that I can skip this backtracking and that (disregarding the fiddling to get the Zodiac) there are no one-time items in chests that might not be there the first time I pass by.
