1)I'm not 100% sure what you mean, but the skill trees are still set up so that you can put points into any skill when you're at the right level without needing X points in earlier skills in that skill's tree. Apparently they are going to be changing the skills up some, but I don't know if they are changing the way things work
2)there is still additional, non-class specific magic learned from items, but every class has a fairly wide variety of skills that they learn in the usual way
regarding the skills, the classes no longer have 100% identical passives like "+X to Offensive Magic" and so on
I found the overworld areas to be tiringly long. They were fun to explore—much moreso than the nearly-linear floors of the first game—but that exploration made the pace of "quest acquired, quest completed, quest turned in, next quest" way too slow.
Also the UI had a definite "not done" feeling. It was mostly the fonts, which all looked like placeholders.
Beta has been tons of tons of fun i'll probably get this when it comes out
except the past couple times ive tried to play me and friends havent been able to even see each others games, and the support for this game isn't too hot

I've been playing the first one because I don't have diablo 3
my barbarian guy is drowning in magic staffs and wands
woah, has anyone else playing the beta found an "Augmented Weapon" unique?
I got one called Troublemaker that will apparently will be upgraded if I kill 20 spiders with it
That's real neat!
Might preorder this for myself when I get home today.
When I killed the 20 spiders, the gun gained 12 physical damage (with an asterisk next to it that I assume means that the damage bonus scales with level), "10% chance to cast sticky web", and 5% chance to poison
That sucks. I know the feeling (I accidentally destroyed a unique in TL1 because of hilariously unclear dialog boxes re: de-socketing). The pain, she never leaves.

I really hope this gets an XBLA release faster than the last one did
also I thought this was a new thread and got really confused when I was reading the thread and saw a point I wanted to make and then scrolled down a little further and realized I had already made it

the devs have said they don't plan to make an XBLA release
apparently it doesn't conform to the size limits for those

Well, you should like this one more, then.
Why I fear the ocean.
I agree with the assessment of the first game, though I still really loved it. Despite the end boss, which was a load of bullshit.
Looking forward to playing it.
Shit got pretty insane after a while. Extra towns, new character/pet types etc.
Every group will want an Engineer's healbot. Way too damn handy.
Did anyone try multiplayer in the beta? How was it?
the recommended levels are silly.
how so
they seemed to work for me
yuuuup
they looked at all the objectively better elements of D2 and went "nah, fuck that"
1) Are the skill trees built with the same philosophy as the first one (that is, with seemingly random progression)?
2) Is magic still learned only from drops?
if the answer to either of those is yes, then fuck it
wasn't the first one basically a monetized open beta for a planned MMO? whatever happened with that?

Still, a battle-papillon makes this GOTY for me.
wait which elements were those
'cuz I played the shit out of torchlight and it felt a lot like a streamlined, narrower-in-scope diablo 2
which is exactly what I want
but it didn't feel like it was missing any big elements

Those should work with their melee skills

then suddenly it just... vanished. I realized i'd been punching things with only one claw for a while, and I haven't played since due to heartbreak.
what did it gain when you killed the zombies?
but it just vanished out of my hand before i could get there

cause i beat a level 16 to 18 heading into it at 13 and walking out at 16.
I still don't love how the UI feels flash-gamey but really it's perfectly functional and everything else seems loadsa fun

I do not have enough games to waste my time with, just D3, BL2, and MoP
the devs have said they don't plan to make an XBLA release

they'd have to do a disc
Good on ya, Torchlight
Edit: Nope, just bought it.
anyone down for a little multi?
confused me for a second there
and yeah, with their acct management down I don't think you can play multi without making a runic games account, sooo
ferret or go home
