So I respawn and head to Balota Airfield. Find a few goodies and an M24 with no ammo. Hike across the field to the tent city to see what's in the deer stands and happen upon two players, one in a ghillie suit.
I hit the PTT key and start yelling "Friendly! Friendly! No ammo! Friendly!"
Pop, pop, pop, I'm dead.
Fucking psychopaths.
this happened to me in north cherno
came around one of the grain silo things and there are two dudes with m4's
i had only a cz550 (which is like a gigantic flashing neon SHOOT ME sign), no sidearm
i backed around the corner and was saying "friendly! friendly!" over voice, and kept backing up towards cherno (i was heading in trying to find things, they were heading out)
they just ran around the corner and shot me. i had ammo, but didnt stand a chance. i was in the open and like 20 or 30m from them.

1.7.2.5 is out, but not a whole lot of servers are running it.
The quick and painless on the changelist:
[FIXED] Ammunition amounts not loaded in properly (Now records used ammunition correctly) (No more logging to refill mags)
[FIXED] Graphical glitches with barbed wire (Rebinarized file should no longer produce graphical artifacts)
[NEW] Additional optimizations to login process (further use of publicVariableClient to reduce network transmission)
[FIXED] Respawn button not enabled when legs fractured (Now enables for fractured legs https://dev-heaven.net/issues/39161 )
[FIXED] Excessive logging of player data in server logs (Disabled https://dev-heaven.net/issues/38784 )
[FIXED] Graphical glitches with dead bodies (Rebinarized file should no longer produce graphical artifacts)
so do the G&T guys have regular sessions? Most of the D&D crew is done with this until the standalone comes out it seems, so I need some people to roll with.
preferrably people who know what defilade is

It pointless to have tactics when you engage enemies then they just d/c.
Hop onto a different server.
Then hop back on a click behind us to try and get the upper hand.

Yeah, I tend to have a shoot on sight policy with ghilie suited people
900000000% of the time they're hackers
Ghillies are comically easy to find, so I don't know where that train of thought is coming from.
A lot of hackers wear ghillies, but they're by no means rare.
Just wait til ya see what my old dude is sporting now.
Axen, you look like the last surviving member of a long lost army squad sent off into the countryside to hunt down zeds ages ago. Also I'm jealous of how good NVGs look on you.
So, there are a couple things that aren't in the patch notes. Bandit skins are back...sort of. Your head changes to the bandit head and your body stays the same. It looks kind of goofy. Also, zombies run as fast as the players, now.
Unfortunately, artifacting is still a huge problem. Green Mountain and Stary both still had it bad thanks to all the military corpses.
Ended up respawning in Cherno with plenty of food and ammo. Saw somebody in a chopper WAY above the city just laying waste with the machine gun attached to while the server was going crazy (I assume it hax0rz). Then, the most awesome thing ever happened.
I left the church and headed towards the water so I could get out of town. I go prone and begin BARREL ROLLS(!) across the street to stay away from zombies (it was nightime). As I go to start moving forward, I continue to barrel roll. I take my hands off the keys and i'm STILL rolling along like log, log it's big it's heavy it's OH SHIT I BROKE MY LEG. I ended up rolling off the slight cliff to the shore, breaking my leg in the process and bleeding profusely from what appeared to be my anus.
Suffice to say, with no morphine, no help and not wanting to move at a snails pace I took some zombies out with the Lee Enfield until I was gorged upon like a Thanksgiving feast at a homeless shelter.
DayZ: The Video Game Equivalent of Numerous Successive Nut Punches.
Second spawn found a tent and looted the F out of Cherno, though. No broken bones this time!
Once the standalone game comes out, I'll be all over this.
But...
It really sounds like this game needs a microphone. Being 90% deaf in one ear, I tend to not like headphones too much (and have a pair of really good ones for when I need them), so I have no interest in dropping a huge amount of money on a "gaming headset." Does anyone have a recommendation for a standalone mic setup that's not ridiculously expensive? Surely I just couldn't use the microphone on my Jawbone bluetooth headset...or could I?

I use a standalone logitech mic and don't get complaints that often, it looks like this:
You can get it from nearly anywhere, like amazon, newegg, etc.
Edit: And its very possible that you could use your bluetooth headset. I have hooked my PS3 bluetooth headset up to my PC in the past. All you need is a bluetooth receiver on the computer, or one of those usb ones you can set up easily.

Yeah, you can use the bluetooth one if you have a bluetooth dongle. Or spend $5 on a cheap headset at Walmart, or buy a cheap $5 standalone mic elsewhere. Not a big deal at all
Excellent...my PC has a Bluetooth receiver built into the mobo!

I've stopped playing until the stand alone comes out, or the hacker issues are at least kind of tackled in the mod. As it stands right now, you can't even go a single night of playing without running in to some script kiddie. I've had to take 899 down several times over the last week just to clear an abusive hacker.
As with most things in life, someone is always out to ruin it for everyone else.
Here I was walking from stary sobor when I suddenly hear a helicopter sound. I went to search for it. It was hovering north of stary. And apparently the pilot is not a very good one. It had auto hover on and keeps going up and down. On there ground were three ghillied snipers waiting for the helicopter to land. I'm outgunned so I keep watching. I looked at the surrounding and noticed 2 more fully repaired helicopters on the ground. Hackers.....
All of a sudden the helicopter crashed on top of the three snipers on the ground. And they all died. After a couple of minutes of scanning for enemies I went ahead and went to loot their bodies (only took the gps) and tried to steal one of the helicopters that was still there. I stole it and went to pickup a fried of mine in berezino. Unfortunately I had a rough landing and damaged the engine. We tried to repair it, but then we heard another helicopter fly towards us. We seek cover and saw it was the hackers and they killed us with the machinegun.
Anyone can tell me how to have a soft landing? I turned auto hover on and then pushed z until it hit the ground, but apparently it causes damage to the heli that way.

Just had a hacker on 899 this morning, post BE update. When there is a BE update, it takes them about 48 hours to figure it out and circumvent it.
you have to hit the ground really, really slowly. So don't hold Z, lower yourself down slowly until you're a few feet up and then keep tapping z a little. Sometimes you see people land really quick but I think you have to know your way round a chopper before you can pull that off. Do everything gently.
It's been reported now that people are changing their GUID (the hash of your cd-key, used to id you on servers) to other legit players GUIDs. Then they get banned, which gets you banned. So now you're risking losing your money just by playing multi-player arma... This is being done by server admins though (giving access to their logs, which has all player GUIDs) - so stick to "friendly" servers I guess.
So wait, the new bandit/humanity/hero thing persists through death? Thats kind of rad.
No hiding your murderous ways even when you have no weapons.
Depends. If you're required to heal different people in order to increase your humanity, then yes, it'd be hard to game that system. But if it's just "heal non bandits", then a group of player killers could conceivably keep one of their party as a "health mule", who they could continually heal to boost their own humanity.
I would hope they'd track if you're healing the same person over and over, as that seems like it'd be just ripe for abuse.
Anyone have ideas how to kill your character? I got teleported off map somewhere by a hackers and I'm the only one left alive.....Now I don't know where to go and since respawn has been disabled. I can't respawn. there are no buildings only empty fields and mountains, no where to cause damage to my own character.
Just have to comment this has become the new EVE for me. As in, I would never, ever, play this game based on what I've heard. But it's incredible fun to read about the punishment players willingly put themselves through to play this, and the stories of what follows. The game seems designed to drive off players, and gives all the tools to the playerbase (both on purpose and not) to let them make it even more hell for each other, and yet there are people determined to keep going regardless. It's a game that breaks your legs for daring to walk through doors, "proper" gameplay involves crawling slowly through the grass for extended periods of time, and magical script kiddies teleporting around being shitheads is a semi-regular occurance. And people come back for more!
It's like a Japanese game show only there is no prize, they just break your legs instead.
I just. Well I just wanted to say thank you. This thread has brought me more enjoyment than several recent game releases.

I believe run NE until you see a Forrest. You're in debug plains. The clouds always move East so theres your compass

Thanks for the info. I just went the difficult route of starving to death. Maybe rocket should add the ability to respawn when in debug plains.

Ah it's always been just barbed wire for me and nothing fixed it minus completely exiting the game
