It doesn't eat your gear, for one. It also isn't a bug, no matter how you want to slice it. It places any item that was put into it without sufficient room near you in approximately a 5m radius. It's a bit tough to locate at times, but generally it's possible. The game doesn't have confirmation menus because it's both unnecessary and distracting.
Second, DayZ does not have a tailor-made inventory system. It uses the ARMA system, which was not designed for such heavy manipulation of the inventory. You grabbed your items at the start of a mission and rarely if ever had to pick anything up, trade anything, etc.
Third, DayZ is built around a game that was built as a simulator. It is not designed to be forgiving, it is not designed to be easy to learn, and it is not designed to give a fuck. It's a roughly made game with an engine designed around making as realistic of an experience as possible at the time.
It's a bit absurd to imagine that you might have to memorize and learn things in this game, I know. But you can grin and bear it like we all did. If you think losing a fucking 1911 due to your own inexperience is a huge deal, then you should probably go ahead and stop playing right about now. We just lost a helicopter, a car, and about 6 sets of NVGs/coyote backpacks/high-end guns/et cetera due to a hacker. You shrug it off and keep playing or you quit.
Would've liked to know the first bit before going off on a tirade. :P
Didn't really care about the 1911, it was just the idea that there might be a game feature which intentionally destroyed items for an inscrutable reason, which is apparently not the case anyway. That life just ended because I got backed into a corner with just an Enfield to protect me; things went south pretty quick when I started shooting. Only thing that irritated me about that death was that some mook saw the zombies mauling me and then opened fire on me anyway even though I was clearly dying already.
Something as whacky as dropped items not just dropping at my feet is no big deal, though, as long as I know I just have to look around for them for a bit. Bugs and bizarre oddities from dealing with the ARMA II code are fine, considering this is an alpha and all.
95% of the annoying things in DayZ can be attributed to the following statement:
"DayZ is a mod of Arma2, which is a mission based, non-persistent, hyper-realistic military simulator that you are not intended to play with strangers, or without comms."
I always seem to quit playing DayZ about 30 minutes or so before everyone else dies due to hackers. Although I really I would have liked to have gotten a helicopter ride.

I had a fucking awesome experience because of a hacker
He warped us all up onto the really big hotel in either Cherno or Elektro I can't remember and I immediately hit alt+f4. I came back in about 15minutes later and found I was still on the tower. There was two dudes in ghillie suits sitting up there with me, taking potshots at people so I waste them both. I then spent about 30 minutes up there with my rifle with the heat sensor and I ended up nailing 5 bandits who were camping out below and shooting dudes running through town. I think I killed 2 of the bandits and the other three managed to limp off
I felt like some kind of fuckin vigilante badass, protecting the good people of the town

People are going to shoot at you. It's impossible to avoid this. If it bothers you every time it happens, you're playing the wrong game.
It actually wasn't because I got shot at that moment, it's because somebody was dumb enough to waste ammo and attract zombie attention at that moment. Shooting didn't change anything on my end; even if the guy had instantly killed the 15 or so zombies around me, I had a few hundred blood and would've died before I could bandage myself. It was probably one of the guys that I'd seen tooling around on a quad who, to be honest, I'd been wondering how hard it would've been to shoot them off the quad and swipe it.
Who is dumb enough to waste ammo and attract zombie attention by blowing away a guy that's already doomed?

well, it's not as if he absolutely knew for sure how much blood you had; typically the only visible indication you're going to get as to whether a newly acquired survivor target is in trouble is blood spurting, because experienced players have no problem training zombies into buildings and just ditching them there (though a lee enfield shooting spree might have clued somebody in to greater distress) - still, you might have managed to shoot your way out. it's also a fairly safe assumption that people who are confident enough in their weapon loadout to snipe survivors won't have a problem with a few z's. perhaps your sniper just wanted an easy humanity hit in his search for a bandit scarf. hell, maybe he was bored and wanted to hear the delicious sound of snapping bones and happy, feasting z's.

A murder's a murder regardless of the condition or situation. It's fun to take people out.
Wasting ammo isn't a thing since you can still refill your mags by logging in and out as long as they're in your pack. His weapon also probably wasn't something that aggros from a significant distance. My M249 sounds nearly as loud as an FAL, but has the same audible distance as the M4/M16/L85, and if I want a 0.1m radius, I can just grab an SD mag and throw it in.
The only weapons that have a dangerous audible distance are the weapons with calibers above or at 30. This means the AKM (150m), the Enfield (162m), the FAL (180m), the M240/Mk48 (180m), the M14/DMR/CZ550/M24/SVD (180m), the 1866 (125m, the other shotguns are 90m), and the big fifties, the M107 and AS50 (455m).
Anything in 5.56 or 5.45 is only audible to zombies out to 80m. Anything in 9mm non-silenced or .45 ACP is audible at 53m, and anything silenced is audible at 0.1m.

so if my humanity is -130k, how many back rubs/blood bags would it take to escape the grip of the terribly unfashionable and evil headwrap? I found a ghillie suit just recently that hides it, but I have to assume that the headwrap is persistent through death given that humanity apparently carries over; alternatively, murders could just give -10k or so which would explain the huge deficit, but I've never seen any kind of value chart regarding in-game actions under the humanity system.

I just know a little of the point system but it's 100 for bandaging and giving morphine to a player and 200 for giving a blood transfusion

In before the shitstorm. Before it gets all dramatic in here; if you have a problem with me, contact me. Just gonna get yourself in trouble by talking about it here.
For clarification: I messed up the base a bit and killed a dude. I also shot 3 people in the back prior to that. I was a total silly goose, and I shouldn't have done either of the things. I've always been the resident 'troll', in the sense that I always grief other people by silly, inane means. Running them over in a jeep in Battlefield 3, shooting teammates in the back in Blacklight Retribution. I crossed a line, though, when I killed people in Day Z. There's a lot more invested in that game than most. I just never got to that point. I never really felt that feeling of working on something for 6 hours and then losing it to some silly goose with a hatchet (in Day Z). The second time was retaliation for something that didn't really warrant it, that being the lack of forgiveness by the party involved. Something which they didn't really owe me in the first place.
The first incident, though. I don't know. I thought it was cute? They give a gun to some crazy looking guy with glasses, and he proceeds to annihilate all of them? Seemed like something that would be funny in hindsight. And it wasn't received all that badly. They just started over. They were unhappy, but not...irate?
Neither scenario is defendable. What I did was wrong. Friendships have been damaged, no doubt; because I don't seem to handle situations with any measure of weight very well. I can't say I'm sorry to everyone involved just yet, but I'm sure that will change. It's only about 15 minutes after the fact.
Haha, I knew I was in some shit when I saw shiashi. I heard a vehicle and hopped off my bike. Turned around and saw shiashi and though "fuck it" and opened fire. I knew I was seriously outgunned when I saw another person. Took cover behind my bike (Which I then got stuck on so I couldn't roll out). Figured one person was laying down supperssive fire while the other flanked me. I tried to stand up but that damn bike had its grip on me.

you sound really put out so I'll try to keep that in mind, but...none of that sounds like a big deal. oh no, you backshot some guys and maybe set them back a little bit, as if being murdered/hacked/inconvenienced in DayZ is some sort of traumatic experience that we're all not used to. you said it yourself, they totally aren't mad bro because game-related silliness and goosery in the form of banditry and other shenanigans is basically what gives the game flavor. enjoy their stuff, maybe find some fortifications and rebuild whatever you messed up as penance, but really, from my admittedly outside perspective you shouldn't beat yourself up too much.

Despite looking for them constantly, I have yet to find another vehicle besides that one bicycle and that car my friend and I won. I would very much like to find a fuckin vehicle of some sort, I don't give a shit if it's a dirt bike or a semi truck or whatever. Walking everywhere like a peon is the worst
So I keep attempting to connect (The Baked Blam) and I get a Batleye error or it just gets stuck on a loading screen. I looked on Google to find a solution but I didn't find anything, any ideas?

you're sure you're updated to version 1.7.2.5? sixupdater was taking so long to host it that I ended up switching to dayz commander so I could continue to be too lazy to work with game files while also playing the game without an unreasonably long waiting period.
speaking of 1.7.2.5, the refusal of the game to save my location combined with random(?) beach spawns is getting pretty fuckin' tiresome. no, I really don't want to be near elektro, please stop putting me right outside it three times in a row, god i hate elektro please stop

I am using DayZ Commander it let me into a game a minute ago, but when I left that one (it was a vet server) it went back to denying me theability to join.
Edit: further Searching it appears a lot of people are having this issue, even whole servers being kicked off of the game.
We'd mentally prepared for it though so it wasn't too bad. If anything, it's nice to be back at square one again where we're struggling for gear and not running about with NVGs and silenced m4s
I have not once seen NVG and whenever I do find a good gun I get teleported and killed by a hacker.
I really wish bikes would spawn more often though.
For sure. Bicycles should be far more prevalent or at least buildable from scratch. Walking around is fine and all, but it does wear thin after a while.
