If Tomb Raider is a combination of the giant action set pieces of the Uncharted games, and a more hardcore version of the Hardcore survival mode of Fallout:NV, it will be awesome.
The new Tomb Raider highlights one of the reasons why I couldn't get through Uncharted 2. No one could suffer wounds like that and still run/jump/climb with the amount of strength and agility needed. I mean, she gets stabbed clean through the side, and then rips the piece of jagged metal out. She's a skinny girl, so chances are it went through something important, like a kidney or intestine. Even if it missed anything vital, there's still blood loss and infection (it's not like she's in a sterile environment). And even if she somehow got herself antibiotics (which would likely be in IV form), they tend have side effects, too, like nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, weakness, etc.
It's like when Uncharted 2 starts and Drake is sitting in the train bleeding out from a stomach wound. Sorry, but you're not going to be able to climb up the 25-50 feet of train it takes to get to safety after being unconscious/bleeding like that.
I can suspend my disbelief to a certain extent (like a gazillion bullets missing important characters), but not to this extreme. It just sucks me right out of the experience.

This sort of thing is the flipside of the problem of: If no one gets hurt, are they really in danger?
It's why, in the Lord of the Rings movies, Aragorn was thrown off a cliff. That didn't happen in the book. But if the moviemakers hadn't done something to put him in danger, then Aragorn would have been completely untouchable for all three movies.
You have to do SOMETHING to get the point across that the hero is not safe from harm.
That said, there's a middle ground. Spearing your hero with rusty metal and shrugging it off later is a little far-fetched, yeah.

Not to mention that he climbs it while its probably freezing cold. Also afterwards he passes out several times in the snowy cold and then manages to fight off several enemies, but that's nothing for Übermensch Drake.

Honestly...I really have no interest in playing a game where I have to limp around for half of it.
I remember in Fatal Frame 2 you only had to escort someone who was limping and not all the time, and it was still annoying.

I'm sure there's enough people who will dismiss this with "It's just a game" (et al.), but I think its a valid point.
Granted, I can suspend my disbelief that the stabbing did not pierce her intestines, or cause an infection (I wouldn't even know about those particulars), but having her run around and leap across chasms stretching over several feet... well, yeah, that's probably the point at which something gets ruptured, or whatever.
It's tough to design those scenes realistically (I Am Awake tried and failed miserably... such a bad game), so it'd probably the best bet not to attempt it. One can still make it survival-based, etc., but without including cut scenes in which the heroes suffer wounds they clearly would be unable to sustain over their subsequent adventures. Or create a narrative arc in which a dramatic wound occurs, the gameplay changes (i.e. slows down, the player has to reach shelter, something like that), and create time in the story for the wound to heal. Might seem elaborate, but, again, if one wants to tie gameplay into the narrative (which I laud, love and will always lobby for), it'd better be done right or not at all, most of the time.
But I am lucky enough that this doesn't me bother enough not to enjoy what else a title has to offer (and in this case: It's just a trailer, who knows how the game handles that stuff? And if one plot hole like that suffices to make it unplayable, then I assume you'll have a hard time getting through any entertainment product at all, really).

That's not what we're asking. Just don't give your protagonist a number of story related mortal wounds and then let him perform nearly impossible feats while in a hazardous enviroment.
Just.... try to be remotly realistic.

I agree with you on the wound thing, but the "gazillion bullets missing important characters" thing bothers me even more. I hate it when the entire plot hinges on the characters getting through a situation where in the real world, it would be entirely up to chance. They don't succeed because of their skill, cunning or the ingenious plan that they concocted... they succeed because, against the near-100% probability otherwise, they manage to avoid being hit by the fire of a hundred machineguns. Or whatever. It's stupid. Write a real plot.

So was the Konami conference at all funny this year? I didn't bother staying up to watch it. I'm guessing no.
Not sure who sorts it, but do we have IRC details set up yet?
There's already a general PA forums IRC channel at #paforums on irc.slashnet.org. I could set up a temporary #paforums_e3 if you want?
Ah I didn't know it was a year round thing, thought they were just set up for E3.
There's also #paforums_pax for PAX related things. I created #paforums_e3 anyways if people want to use that, here's a handy webclient link if someone wants to update the OP: http://www.slashnet.org/webclient/paforums_e3

The new Gears game is Gears of War: Judgment, and seems to star a younger Cole Train and Daimon Baird, so it pretty much confirms it as a prequel. Though, Gears 3 spoiler
The presence of Locust would also confirm it as a prequel
. Baird is probably my favorite character in the franchise, so this is the best shot at getting me back into the franchise. While the idea of Baird and Cole getting arrested piques my interest a little, I'm curious as to what, if any, big picture stuff they'll do. Gears1 kicked off the cover based shooter frenzy, even if it didn't invent it, and Gears2 kicked off the Horde mode trend. In comparison, Gears3 was just kinda.. there.
I am SO GLAD that someone finally made this. It's exactly how I envisioned it.

While waiting for the Avengers to start on premier night, there was a couple of jokers in the front seat, saying things like "Best film since Green Lantern" when the Battleship trailer played. When the lights finally dimmed, one of them yelled out "MY BODY IS READY."

So.. Tomb Raider... seems to be ripping off Uncharted... which seemed to be ripping off Tomb Raider. We have come full circle!
Also, there doesn't appear to be any tomb raiding in Tomb Raider. What gives? Looks a lot more like a survival game with action set pieces and some platforming. Basically Uncharted but survivaly-er. Also also, I hate new Lara's voice.

I realize there is almost nowhere to go except back, given the fact that Gears 3 had a very definite ending, but I'm not really a huge fan of it being a prequel. However, I'm really excited to see what "People can fly" brings to the gameplay of Gears.
Lara's voice in that trailer sounds like an American doing a British accent.
There's this thing called the internet now, it allows people to communicate and send things over long distances, things such as direction and recordings.

I didn't like her voice either, but I'm not so sure she's not British. It could just be like Vanille in FF13, and she's a native that just doesn't have a natural-sounding accent.

Realistic survival action game- You cut your leg on a rock rather badly, because you don't have anything to disinfect it you get gangrene! QTE leg sawing action. Except you still don't have any disinfectant so it just gets worse. You die. Your save is erased. Your disc melts and your computer/console explodes.

You know I think the fact that people even got that out of that scene says more about the people than the scene itself.
Because when I watched that trailer that was the farthest thing from my mind(personally I was thinking about how painful it looked) and when it was actually brought up I was like "The hell..."
