Yeah the fat guys are the hardest part. The last club you go into when you get to round 6 its like 4 of them with ten other dudes sprinkled in.
The best way I've found to fight them is to wait for a counter pop some shots off and then reposition. Also in some of the clubs you can abuse the enviroment to at least get some of the guys one on one.
Weapons in meele is where I get really tagged, because even the weakest mook can fuck you up if they come at you with a knife, AND they can't be grappled while they have it out.
I used to have problems with weapons guys, but then I got some disarm moves. Now my favorite thing is ripping the cleaver out of a dudes hand, wailing on him with it and then throwing it at another guy, possibly while saying something like "lets bury the hatchet!" Also the baton is a wonderful 'back the fuck off!' weapon.
On the 360 you have to go into the Social Club and look at the scoreboard, it'll list your friends and what they did on the mission and there's an option to "Replay Mission" right next to it.
Do you ever unlock 2 and 3 man counter takedowns ala Arkham City? I always loved those when you'd smack 2 guys heads together.
So far I'm finding the game on the easy side, and I mean that as a compliment. 'Bout halfway I reckon.
Really digging it - each of the major aspects (fighting, driving, shooting) are very fun.
The setting makes it - very cool place to explore/drive around/shove some poor dude's face into an air conditioning fan.
That's because the mechanics don't suck.
In the GTA games, typically the difficulty comes from the game's own crappy mechanics working against you. There are a lot more intuitive things in this game such as the action hijack, the "drive and gun" slowdown and the "ram" key that take away a lot of the un-fun aspects that GTA had(i.e. running into a car for ten minutes until either it or you simply exploded, or expecting the car to sit parallel to you long enough to shoot it)
So I stumbled across a vendor that sold me a bird pet for one of my apartments, and now I'm curious as to where and what the other apartment upgrades might be, since they're not marked on the map.
Also, after my hopes of wooing Nerd Bait Not Ping may have come to naught, as I got a voice mail from her that seems to have vanished.
I'm having so much fun in this game. And then it just crashed on me. Hoping its a common occurrence and not just my shitty luck. And these social hub times are mad, y'all are cheating.
seriously why does someone here have a safe driving time of 5+ minutes? did you just get a van and cruise the highway to prove to us that you're a better hong kong driver?
but seriously i have the longest car jump by a good 20m on all my friends atm. come at me bros.
i don't know if it's been mentioned yet but the Mr. Black suit is probably the best thing in the game so far and has the best description. "Cause you can pick your own color". GOTY
Also people add me so i have some leader board stuff to beat.

wow, I would have gone for the Action Dismount skill first if I knew what it really did.
When you dive out of a car (and have a handgun on you) you do a cool slow motion dive where you aim. Also, cars blow up in one shot during the action dive. Pretty crazy.
I can't quite figure out the safe driving, you seem to trigger it by doing exactly the opposite. Namely going full lead foot and flooring it. I can do about 20 seconds before the timer stops but I can zip around in all these sandbox games pretty well without hitting stuff at all but that doesn't seem to matter in SD.

The safe driver thing is a bit weird yeah. You have to be up to a minimum speed to even start it, then you can go below that speed a bit before it will stop. The trick is to weave in and out of traffic on the freeway for as long as possible. Try to stay just a bit faster than the other cars, fast enough that the timer goes, but not so fast that you end up barreling into traffic from one wrong move.
Other than that I don't know exactly what other advice to give.
So after taking like 6-7 tries to beat the North Point martial arts club, I happened upon the one in Kennedy Town while cruising randomly. Went into it buffed, and the first health upgrade from finding shrines no doubt helped a little, but I tore through the Kennedy Town club on my first attempt. Go figure. Got a Kung Fu Hustle outfit for my efforts.
So far this game is everything I hoped it would be. I am dumbfounded by some of you who have already put in 20+ hours and finished the main plot, though. If I had played the game literally every waking minute of free time since it unlocked I'm still not sure I could have hit that much playtime. Ah, to be unemployed and free to play the vidya that slowly but surely eat up my diminishing savings again...Still, I am finding it pretty satisfying just to play in sessions of a couple of hours, knocking off 2-3 missions or just roaming looking for things to find and people to beat on.

I have close to 18 hours (a few of them are from having it tabbed in the background, though) and I'm nowhere near close to finishing the story.
I'm not unemployed, though, I just have a job where I can finish work on my own time so if I want to take several days off in a row, I can so long as I have all the important stuff ready to go when it needs to be, which is great when games I'm really into launch.

Not meaning to imply that people who put in a lot of time with the game are unemployed, it's just that my job is pretty much a 9-to-5 deal.

It's no big deal. I'm used to the insinuation ever since people have been able to look up hours played on Steam.
So are the dating missions fully linear? As in you don't get to choose who to stick with?
I just completed a mission where one date yelled at me for dating another behind her back. This wasn't something I planned, the missions just followed one another.
you can only get in there doing a mission later on in the game.
ok i'll quit obsessing over that one. i'm down to my last 3. also i just found out you can switch the map to collectibles mode. Found another one I should be able to grab. may have to do some more looking for the last one. that mode shows shrines, cameras statues and discovered lockboxes. still makes you hunt down boxes on your own.
After the latest patch I lost my Triad preorder DLC and got the Police Protection one instead? I'm in the US and bought it directly through Steam... Anyone else have this happen?
EDIT:
Looking through the official and Steam forums it seems to be a widespread issue.

yeah, the collectibles map is useful.
there's 2 statues you can only get on missions, by the way. the one you mentioned, and then another one which is also on that same section of town.
Are you the magic man?

Say, is there stuff to do in the endgame? Post story, will thugs keep showing up to get spanked? Or does repeating fight club dojos pay out more Face points? Don't want to farm anything, just wondering if it'll be hard to get maxed out. :P
Also how are you guys seeing collectibles!? Mine only shows the ones I have found already.
I didn't find out about fight clubs until halfway in the game, I just thought that was a symbol for sifu's schools around town.
then while looking for a particularly annoying camera hack I came across the final fight club, but I didn't know it was the last one. I thought it was pretty ridiculous that they start you off fighting 4-6 guys and then ramped it up in round 6 to 20 or so.
Woo, got it on the first try though. Shit was intense!
I know that each of the dates unlocks a new collectible showing up on your minimap, and I'm fairly certain that once you pass by it once with it showing on your minimap it will show up on the collectibles map if you hit X. Greyed out ones are ones you haven't got yet, white ones you have. If you can't track a certain collectible yet you just need to date someone. I think all the dates are unlocked via story missions, so they shouldn't be too hard to find.

If you do the side-quests and wear some of the watches/bracelets that give you a huge Face bonus, you'll max it out well before you beat the game. You shouldn't have to farm at all.

Completing cases and drug busts gave me the majority of my cop points. I just recently maxed it out. My triad score is lagging behind, though, by quite a fair amount. I guess I'll have to start wearing those ugly, ugly triad outfits now.
Edit: If anyone has gotten to the point where they only have three jade statues left to find, and know that two of them are in locked story locations, the third one is
off the northern coast. After passing a certain story mission, you'll find a side-quest icon out at sea. It takes you to a gambling den on a tanker, and once you complete the short mission aboard it, you'll be able to enter the gambling room where a jade statue also waits.

Yeah, I am rocking the Mountain Master set but it looks fucking absurd. Especially when I am hanging out with Triads dressed like classy, legit businessmen and -women.
Overall I'd say the game's story is a fucking mess in some ways, but I enjoed it.
Fun game.
I just now beat it and thought the story was, if anything, surprisingly straightforward. Like, if you read the dossiers on your phone, the whole thing is pretty much laid out for you very early on. It all hangs together and makes sense. I do wish that we had gotten a lot more time with certain characters, though.

I meant that some of the story beats come on way too sudden and kinda non-sequitur that it can seem really messy at time.
Like,
The wedding. When winston suddenly mentioned a wedding I was like "What?" The fact that it is such a big story event makes me wish that there were more time spent to develope the wedding aspects of winston's character as well as develope more of peggy's character, and while the end result does give an emotional payoff, that particular story beat feels incredibly rushed.
There were a couple more instances like that too where I felt the story just rushed through without proper developement and left too much for the player to assume.
Overall though I still had fun with the story. The story based missions not boring me like most of rockstar's games also helps. :P
I didn't really read the dossiers I guess which might have helped with those instances, but the story shouldn't have to revolve around those.
