Spirit quest, pierce the veil, spirit vessel probably.

Spirit walk runed for mana, big bad voodoo runed for mana, gargant runed for enraged, soul harvest runed for ? (it is never cast), fetish army runed for more guys, zombie bears.

Probably a stupid high dps fast weapon.

Personally not a fan of that build at all.

I see Diablo 3 has carried on the fine tradition of Act 2 being full of enemies that make you scream FUCKFUCKFUCK.

That's always been an Act 3 thing, as far as I'm concerned. I absolutely love the style and aesthetic of Act 3 in D2, but man oh man, does it ever make me rage. Act 3 in D3's a lot like that, too. Some of the enemies in Act 3 are just ridiculous.

On to act iv NM. Act 3 was fun but the final fight was a bit underwhelming. I wonder if there is a setting in the ini file to skip cutscenes.

I never had a problem with Act 3 enemies in D2. The level design for the first half of that act can suck a giant dick though.

Critical Mass does still work. Try it with Meteor, that spell still has some very good interaction with the passive. I tagged you in a post that I made about my build in SE++. You were interested in a critical mass meteor build, right?

Ah, thanks. I didn't notice your post. Not one signature spell. Huh. Can you regain AP reliably considering Meteor only hits once and has about 1/4 odds to critical?

No Glass Cannon even, but I imagine Critical Mass, Evocation and Astral Presence are more important to stay alive. Time to look for Arcane on crit gear!

Well, you can replace Magic Weapon or Frost Nova with a signature spell. I find that I don't have enough time to cast anything but meteor, diamond skin and frost nova on a cast time/animation basis alone. I've always wanted to replace Frost Nova with Wave of Force but the cast animations are just worlds apart and you tend to get torn to pieces. Plus, it costs arcane power whereas frost nova does not.

The burn damage from meteor gives arcane power on critical, so it's not just one hit. Or so I think. If I'm landing meteors, I don't usually need to worry about arcane power so much.

I do want more damage in the build... Inferno is a slow process.

100k poorer and I am now sporting a ridiculous swami hat, adding it up to 18 AP on crit, reduced Meteor cost by 3 and 22% critical chance total.

    That's the spirit!

It's a pretty fun build! Shield is destroying me though. And I have trouble holding shift and recasting my supporting skills with the default keys. I'll try zxcv. You can get up close and personal, but you don't want to run towards them when you're out of arcane power.

I think the build needs Venom Hydra for additional dps and kiting those packs you can't hit with Meteor. Not sure what to replace it with though.

Also, the Templar is completely useless. Stupid improved AI pathing.

Speaking of the Templar, is it normal for him to be doing like 20-30 damage in Act 3 while I'm doing 400-ish? He's a great tank for absorbing damage, but he might as well not even swing his weapon. Is this by design? I have him well equipped and all.

Shielding mobs are agents of the devil. Or I guess, Diablo. Horrible things.

I roll with the Scoundrel usually. Hysteria's a pretty good DPS boost or you can go pure critical strike chance. He's got decent crowd control between the snare, blind and stun arrows. Stays out of molten melee tarpits. His witty charm keeps my temper even between the constant deaths as well!

None of the hirelings are capable of any noticeable DPS. They're just there for their special abilities, and the Templar seems to be the most useful with his defensive abilities. Apparently some people like to use the Enchantress for the CC. Not sure if there's any reason to use the Scoundrel ever, though he can buff your DPS a bit.

edit: Looks like there is some disagreement about this. :)

My enchantress can solo single mobs on Inferno and her decay spell (forget the name) does pretty noticeable damage. I think she's at 2600 DPS.

Point taken, but a pretty silly example.

What would be Blizzard's motivation for killing my dog?
What would be Blizzard's motivation for hiding a public game hack?
Do you think Blizzard has more to lose with disclosing a viable hack than killing my dog? Go ahead with more silly examples if you like, but Blizzard has plenty of reason to lie or feign ignorance, so I'll play it safe and wait it out for now. You can continue being unreasonable if you like.

This sounds incredibly logical and well thought out. Until you realize the world isn't black and white, and Blizzard has as many reasons not to lie as they do to lie, and that in the age of the internet, they know, and we know, if they do lie, it will come to light.

    No, that's my point.

What reason do you have for believing anything regarding this?

Blizzard denies it. It doesn't technically make sense. You have the internet telling you that there are hacks.

I imagine people who complain about the Diablo plot are the same as my friend who thought The Avengers had too many cheesy one liners, was too forced, and had a thin pretense of a plot that existed just to show how badass the Avengers were.

It's like...what did you expect? Great prose is not what brings you to Diablo.
    Watch the Diablo 2 cinematics.

Despite being much older and (relatively) shitty looking, they are ten times more enjoyable to watch once you get over the "gee whiz that looks neat" factor of the D3 cinematics.
I'm sure they are. But I don't watch the super bowl for the ads. I watch it for the gratuitous violence that occurs in between the highly prettified scripted clips that occur to break up the awesome violence. People who get all up in arms about the plot I think are the most consistently angry subset of gamers. And before you call me out for using anecdotal evidence, I totally am and I recognize that. It just seems like there is ALWAYS plot bitching. Mass Effect 3 was super crazy fun and while you can argue you play the game for that plot more than Diablo, I didn't let the entire series get ruined for me because of the ending, and I'm not the kind of guy who sits there and nitpicks all these logical inconsistencies or bad writing or something.

I'd rather be blown away by a good plot than consistently underwhelmed by video game writing which has never, ever given me a reason to expect something amazing in any given random AAA title.
The game is fun, and I think it's better than D2. The art is pretty damn nice, and the skills all feel really solid with some weight behind them. I've done Act I three times now and it's still really entertaining.

Story and tone are still terrible! I mean, video game writing in general is very bad. This does not mean I'm going to give video games a pass when their writing is shitty.

It seems to me that people are upset that we're don't like the story? People keeping asking why, and so I answer them. This is not a difficult concept to grasp: if you are tired of hearing about complaints regarding the story, then stop bringing it up.

I think the issue is two fold:

One, I just think a lot of us are tired of hearing about it. Even if we agree with you (and on many points I do), it's gotten to "we get it" state. Especially since 90% of us are past our Normal runs, and the story is literally inconsequential now because we never see it through jamming escape.

Second, I think the general tone of the thread has become very negative. People claim to love the game, and think it did so much right, but spend pages and pages making nothing but posts about some specific issue they have, and thus it's nothing but negativity, for pages at a time. A balanced discussion of a games faults are fine, but when certain posters come in and stir up the negativity with hyperbole and snark ridden posts, it just brings the whole thread down.

Alternatively, a lot of people are upset at the quality of the game and frustrated that Blizzard seems to have been unable to learn from their previous games.

I really enjoyed the companion dialogue. I finished the Templar and a good amount of the Enchantress and Scoundrel conversations. I think they were pretty well done, especially the little bits that occur running around in maps and dungeons.

DH: Why are you making those weird sounds?
Enchantress: I'm practicing my spells so I won't fail them during battle.
Enchantress: Do they really sound so strange?
    DH: Yes.

They really are pretty great, but it pisses me off that they all mention their backstory and there are so obviously sidequests there that are being saved for DLC. Could you possibly be any more transparent about your attempt to milk every possible dollar out of me, especially when the main game itself seems so short and lacking content?

How quickly one forgets about the celestial mount in WoW.

That said, I like the mini AH game that's included. Some of the items listed go so quickly--I can't imagine all the people buying and re-selling "deals". If I even *think* about an item that looks like a good deal for a second, it's gone. For instance, I've been periodically searching the AH for magic 1handers with a buyout max of 50k and then sorting by DPS, occasionally filtering by Dex. Anything over 600DPS sells out nearly instantly and I once saw a ~900DPS axe and thought about it for a second, decided to buy and it was already gone. It's another small addicting game itself.

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#WdXgTh!ZXU!ZbcaYa

    HP: 34.8k
    Block: 12% chance for 1960-2794
Dodge: 32.9 raw, 43% mantra, 51.5% for 3 seconds when activating mantra
    Armour: 5688, 65.47% dr
    Resistance: 550, 64.69% dr
    HP/s: 404

An extra flat 310 hp/s per mantra activation was really over-budget Blizzard? Really?

I see Diablo 3 has carried on the fine tradition of Act 2 being full of enemies that make you scream FUCKFUCKFUCK.

    (that's not a bad thing)

That's always been an Act 3 thing, as far as I'm concerned. I absolutely love the style and aesthetic of Act 3 in D2, but man oh man, does it ever make me rage. Act 3 in D3's a lot like that, too. Some of the enemies in Act 3 are just ridiculous.
I never had a problem with Act 3 enemies in D2. The level design for the first half of that act can suck a giant dick though.

second half of act 3 in D2 was the fucking best. Like, I never played it, just skipped to meph and went to act 4, but it was pretty sweet. Travincal and all.
