In all seriousness though Vita is sort of phoning in the end of June and basically all of July.

They have a new system color but the biggest game to go along with it is a port of the MGS collection which fell like a stone on the PS3.

They'll have a mini revival in August though.

Two people on my Twitter have reported their local retailers have dropped the Vita - a HMV and a Morrison's.

The fact that there are new PSP games released on PSN that aren't playable on Vita should be a crime.

Next Week's P4G and Vita numbers are going to be fairly sad. It's clear by the fact that 1/6 Vita owners in Japan have P4G that the sales are going to plummet next week, not to mention that everyone is going to be buying Pokémon.

MS really wants WP7 to be successful.

So that's why they introduce phones at the beginning of the year that will be completely obsolete in a few months with absolutely no upgrade path.

    http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/20/3098768/lumia-900-t-mobile-germany-rejection-windows-phone

    Fuck it.

Love my WP7 but I'm ditching.

Too bad for the Lumina 900 in Germany, I guess. This hasn't been confirmed/denied anywhere else in the meantime, but it seems kind unlikely nonetheless, which is a shame. The 7.0 to 7.5 free upgrade was excellent for the brand, but the hardware differences for 8.0 left me pretty confident I wasn't going to get WP8 on my early model phone. Too bad for late 7.5 adopters though.

Of course, I say this as someone who likes the Lumina 900 but would not buy one because it has no keyboard.

Yea, the release of Pokemon Black 2/White 2 will make next weeks sales interesting to see. Will it boost 3DS or DS sales, or neither? We'll see.

I think it's supposed to have 3DS specific features, so maybe that'll sell the system some.

    eurogamer.net/articles/2012-06-20-nintendo-wii-u-could-become-preferred-call-of-duty-platform
Nintendo hopes that the Wii U GamePad could become the "preferred" way of playing Call of Duty games.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 remains unannounced for the platform, although a Wii U version has been heavily rumoured.

"Do we want to reach out to the core audience? Absolutely," Nintendo of America marketing exec Scott Moffitt explained to GameSpot. "They're very much part of our audience and the group of consumers we hope will find the way you can re-imagine games on the Wii U.

"The Wii U could become the preferred way to play those games for some of the core gamers."

The GamePad's touch screen could display maps and other HUD elements, Moffitt continued.

"You can imagine how a game like Call of Duty would work on the Wii U - the GamePad will allow you to declutter the TV and pull gaming items like maps down and not interrupt your interaction and enjoy the cinematic quality of the game on the TV.

"That's one application that could be exciting and could enhance gameplay for a core gamer."

But Moffitt admitted the Wii U's controls were "confusing relative to the Wii".

"With a second screen controller, you need to see what's on the second screen, so by nature it's a more complex system," Moffitt concluded. "It's less visually easy to understand."

Reminds me of how Nintendo wanted GTA on their console since GC I think it's been.

Well, the good news is that watching the myriad videos of game reviewers trying to play the game and failing miserably is pretty entertaining.

Shame that the game's an utter disaster, though. Wonder if it's all on Kinect limitations, or not having budget to perfect the motion recognition. Probably a bit of the former, a lot more of the latter.
The thing is, it really doesn't look like a low budget game. I was impressed by the atmosphere and overall style in the Angry Joe video, the effect of things like the glass window of your mech cracking and breaking to the point where you have to lower the shield so you don't get killed by random shrapnel. Maybe it's a questionable gameplay mechanic, but it's a neat simulationist idea and looked good. Explosions looked cool. World design was cool. Just seems to control horribly.

Yeah, it really is a shame. Even though the writing of the game appears to be garbage, the atmosphere looks unique and the mechanics are conceptually very interesting. Right now Amazon is giving away free copies of the game if you buy a Kinect, and people who reviewed the game are all over twitter saying not to take advantage of the deal.

Metal Gear Solid 5 confirmed, Sold Snake not done with yet!
Kojima Productions boss Hideo Kojima has confirmed development on Metal Gear Solid 5 to the twentieth issue (June / July) of the French IG Magazine.

“There will be a Metal Gear Solid 5 with the new FOX Engine,” confirmed Kojima (via Google Translate), “but what we’ve shown was not gameplay, or anything like that. It was only a demo that we had developed internally and released because the lighting and interactions with the environment had fooled everyone.”

Kojima continued: “About Metal Gear Solid 5, I can tell you two things. There will be much question of infiltration, espionage, and convincing people to give you “a favor” like in the last Metal Gear Solid. I liked the idea of social interactions in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but we will see. And if I say more, the female ninja public relations officer, who is behind the door, I will be carved up into pieces. So it’s better that we meet again when the time comes to talk about Metal Gear Solid 5.”

Kojima also touched upon Metal Gear Rising, reiterating that it is not a Solid Snake title, but rather an offshoot that does something new.

“Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance never claimed to be a Metal Gear Solid. This is not a game about our beloved Solid Snake. It is a spinoff that tries something different. We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots.”

    http://www.computerandvideogames.com/354648/xbox-720-spring-2014-launch-makes-more-sense-pachter/
Games analyst Michael Pachter has predicted that Microsoft's next console will skip 2013.

According to Pachter, it would "make more sense" for Microsoft to target a Spring 2014 release and avoid the late 2013 buying season completely.

"If I were a betting man (and I am), I would say a spring 2014 launch makes more sense, since hard core Xbots could get a console without having to compete with moms buying gifts at holiday, and it is likely that they won't manufacture more than a few million units for launch," he told X360 Magazine.

Microsoft has made a big deal of Xbox 360's entertainment apps in recent months, and Pachter more boldly went on to say that "it's pretty clear" MS will take this much further with the next console.

"It's pretty clear to me that Microsoft intends to allow the Xbox 720 to function as a cable TV box, allowing cable television service providers to broadcast over the Internet through the box, with SmartGlass as the remote controller, and with the Xbox 720 using Windows 8 to split the TV signal into multiple feeds, allowing consumers to divert different channel feeds to different displays within the home," he said.

Does that sound like something you'd want from your next Xbox? And if this were the case, could we even consider the next machine a dedicated "games console"?

Microsoft recently had its lawyers chase down a leaked Xbox 720 document that appeared to reveal several of the firm's plans for its next console.

Spring launches have kind of a shit history and who the hell uses Xbot unironically?

  • Undead ScottsmanUndead Scottsman Registered User regular
Does this seem a bit daft to anyone else? You don't need to worry about hardcore players buying the product: they'll buy it anyway. It's all the non-hardcore players you have difficulty getting on board at launch; putting your machine out during the holidays means you're getting the product out their while people are more likely to spend a larger chunk of money on stuff. Plus a little artificial demand works wonders for generating hype.

    Well...I don't know...

I'm fairly "hardcore" and I never buy a console at launch.

Mainly because I'm "hardcore" enough to know most consoles launch with shit titles and defects of some kind.

Man I do not know what to make of that.

You don't want to take your eyes off the screen in FPS games, that is why the HUD is right there on the screen. At barely a glance you can see all the relevant info you need.

Given the example the dude gives in the article I think this is how it'd play out for me (in single-player). I want to check the map; I'd pause the game, look down at the tablet, then look back at the TV and unpause the game.

I'm not saying it'd be a chore, just saying that I can already do that without involving another screen.

Ya, and actually it's not bad. At its base it's women in lingere playing football, but they play pretty good and hit each other pretty hard. Entertaining enough to watch.

    *edit*

Xbox 720 rumors. I don't see how the target price of $300 can be true. I know Blu ray drives have dropped in price, and they would prefer to lose money on each box sold to be the #1 console, but that just seems to cheap. Unless they have another stupid "core" SKU.

Looks like I need to start setting aside some money to pay for it when it released anyways. $20 a month goes a long way when you start saving a year, year and a half in advance.

Now, I pretty much hate FPS, so I can't really comment on the CoD working better with the HUD on screen, but the possibility of having HUDless gaming with the WiiU excites me a lot.

I can certainly see the appeal and usefulness for other genres. RPGs are one I think this could really work for.

FPS games though? Eh, not seeing the appeal.

Ever watch someone who was big on multiplayer FPS (or TPS) games play? Their car could explode and they still wouldn't take their eyes of the TV. :P

Lingerie Football League Game Tie-in Threatened

    Oh for fuck's sake.

Is... is that really a thing?

Edit: The whole Lingerie Football League thing.

$300 sounds nigh-impossible considering the "high-end tech" they're rumored to be putting in there, unless Microsoft wants to take a serious loss on each console sold.

Yeah. There is a lot of information you're constantly keeping track of in FPSes. So you'd more than likely want the stuff on screen.

I suck at FPS - just having a constant map in front of me would be huge and make me able to at least play the single player games more successfully (getting lost frequently is my biggest issue).

I'd love to see Madden use the screen though - have one player as coach calling plays, preparing substitutions, calling time outs, challenging calls, etc from the touchpad while the other players play the actual game.

Oh! What about a Rally racing sim in which one player is the driver and the other player with the tablet is the co-pilot calling out turns and such?

That actually might be pretty cool.
