So i was browsing my copy of Edge magazine, and some screenshots caught my eye. "good Christmas, that looks interesting," i thought to myself "what can this be?"
The City Of Metronome came the reply.
Being developed by Team Tarsier for what looks like (according to Gamespot) the PC and 360, it is described on
Gamespot as "
a third-person adventure game set in a large, industrial city where you must use sound to solve various puzzles."
IGN elaborate on this a little more with:
Venture into the city of Metronome, a sprawling mass of haphazardly built houses and makeshift machinery where the outlandish inhabitants are carrying out their chores day and night. A city where the life of every citizen is dictated by the Corporation, a single bureaucratic entity that owns all the land, the entire infrastructure and all the industries.
Explore winding alleys, skewed rooftops and crowded apartment buildings as you search for proof of the Corporations secret agenda. In the game, sound is your weapon -- Listen for sounds to record that will help you manipulate your surroundings, fight off your enemies, and combine with other sounds for 'ideas' which can control the citizens, as you slowly uncover a mystery that reaches out from the borders of the game and into reality itself.
The basic premise seems to be around recording sound, and using it to solve puzzles/defeat enemies. This has got me interested, since i can't think of many other games using such a mechanic. Also, it seems very much inspired (visually, at least) by Dark City and City of Lost Children. This is a
very good thing.
Lastly, some screenshots:

i want to hear more about it before i make up my mind, but it's the art style that's got my interest so far.
Im more worried about it actually getting DEVELOPED. They still dont have a publisher as far as I heard, and have been looking for one for about 3 years...
Yeah I remember hearing about this a while back. I see potential.
Makes me sad because it looks like a blinder.
i imagine i'll be getting one, as long as it actually plays well
edit: and i think it was announced at E3 2005. It was an 'indie games' feature in Edge that had it, but i'm hoping someone picks them up soon.
My mother is very impressed by my vocabulary.
猿も木から落ちる
It is a well developed vocabulary.

Has the developer done other stuff before this?
can only see this and a PhysX tech demo listed on their site.
it's still being made, yeah. This month's Edge had a feature about it, and other indie-made games. It doesn't have a publisher yet, but it's still in development.
Oh snap, it was this month's Edge? Awesome.
the one with the awesome MGS4 artwork on the cover, yus.
What's this? It really looks like fun!
