Am I missing why everyone is so keen to rent out their pawns? It seemed like the potions were the only thing really useful on the RC vendor (and the game's fake rent out process gives you more than enough to buy them). I mean, besides the feeling of pride in your slavemaster skillz, is there really much point to it?
Having a pawn come back with the knowledge that, say, going through a door will lead to two cyclopses but going down a corridor can bypass them, is really useful.
Plus, that vendor sells spectacles. My old man Arisen now looks even more avuncular, although as he's only got one eye I'd prefer an eyepatch or monocle.
Thinking about picking this one up. Giantbomb's review lamented the lack of a real permanence to the story in the world, but the rest of it looks cool enough to give it a try.
This will mean nothing to you since you don't know me, but the game has quickly gone to one of my top 5 games of this generation, if not all time.
I would not put a lot of stock in some of those reviews. I think it was the giantbomb one I read that said characters seem lifeless and just stand around so it doesn't feel like a breathing world, and characters only have one line of dialogue, both of which are very, very untrue. I mean, SOME npcs only have a line, but often they have new lines after events. I don't think ANY npcs has simply one line of dialogue for the whole game.
But some NPCs have many, many. You'll end up talking to them 8 times in a row just to see what all they have to say.
Characters they wander around, sleep at night, open their shops in the daytime, some of them you see out on the road or in different towns. They go shopping and chit chat with each other. I even saw two guys get into a fight, which I've only seen once. To me a lot of that has made it feel like a more solid world than many other games that have come before it.
Is there any in-game reason at all to let him get a guilty verdict, other than the feeling that you did the right thing? Or is it best to just shoot for his acquittal to get the discounts and the golden idol?

I don't have an answer to your question, I just wanted to comment on how I love how differently this game can go. In my playthrough, while he didn't seem like a great person, I never saw stuff that made me think he was guilty, and everyone I interacted with though he was a great guy and gladly lended their aid to make sure he was found innocent. The biggest strike against him to me was how he was telling me he'd make it worth my while if I helped him get out of the charges.

So there's no reason.
Speaking of his daughter, have I missed out on doing the escort quest for the golden idol if I haven't done any Fournival quests before the trial? He wanted remove people from their homes and I said fuck that. The stupid roleplayer in me didn't want to help that asshole.

Oh I forgot about that quest. Ok that does make him seem like a bit of a jackass.
As I recall, I really only did that quest for him (and you don't have to kick them out, there are alternate paths to take). By the time I got the idol quests, my pawns were saying they recalled seeing a girl with such a statue, and when I went over there, she was standing in the hallway, ready to go.
OK, which one of you chuckleheads returned my Apsalar in the skimpiest clothes they could find? I wake up from a nap at the inn and she looks like she just got back from a Spring Break party at Miami Beach. I swear I'll get you back if she ends up on one of those Pawns Gone Wild videos.......

You can buy the land yourself from him and the family can still live there.

The thing about this game is, I can -see- the things that aren't done well. Story is meh, there are a lot of annoyances, and things like the gifting system (I have to go through the whole process each time I give a gift? Really?) are just weird. But I don't care about those things. I'm having fun - this is the most addicted I've been to a game since Dark Souls. The world is expansive, the combat is fun and, as a whole, it's just a highly enjoyable experience. I would also say that this is in my top five of this generation, and it's been a pretty long generation.

I went through SFC for the first time yesterday. And well I had to undertake some heroic measures to rescue rental pawns as they happily leaped to their deaths.
I did snag a cool 1h sword for Hastag. Well two actually, I'm not sure if people would prefer he have a native lightning or ice enchant.
It was pretty funny though, I must admit.
Not me. She was fully armed and armored when she decided it would be fun to take a dive off of the Bluemoon Tower. I went on and finished my questing and such in there without any issues, but I am shying away from taking her again after that.
I lost 2 pawns in Blue moon, including my own. That place is just the suck.
Though one got carried away by harpies which I can't fault, since I personally had that happen to my main, twice. And Apsalar for some reason fell behind in the running part.

You know...a problem I have with a lot of these reviews...and I'm not trying to start a hate-on for another certain game(which I like a lot but know it has problems).
Is that a lot of these problems that critics rail on this game for...that other game has and yet it still has near perfect scores.
I hate not having as much time to play this as I want. I keep reading posts and I'm like "what are you guys talking about?" I feel like I'm missing out hardcore on this game somehow. Which reminds me, re: forging items and a particular quest from soon after reaching Gran Soren -
I got the Grimoire from that Rogue stronghold south of Witchwood at the top of the tower. Turns out my pawns all knew it was there, so I just climbed up and got it, no real questing involved. Looks like I have a 2* rating on it for my main pawn right now, wondering if that will get up to 3* when I turn it in. Anyways, is there any benefit to forging a copy of the Grimoire for ~35k gold and turning in the forgery? What does using the Grimoire do that I should keep it since I'm playing as a Magick Archer? Anything? In other words, what are the pros and cons of forging it vs. just turning it in? I don't care about spoilers.
DO NOT turn in a forgery on that one. You'll regret it.

I think I can guess which game you're talking about.
Assuming it's like the game that came before it, or that other game like it with guns, I've never understood why they rate so well. They're good games, but have sooo many problems.

Reviewers usally have to speed-run a game and plot is an important part. I can understand those complaints.

You have been warned.
Wow. If you let Savan kill you, you become the next Dragon. Pretty damn cool.
Thanks guys, I'm glad I decided to quit without saving after I turned it in for a forgery.
I need to find some cooler looking clothes. I'm wearing a Sorcerer's Hat (I think) and some long gloves that make my Arisen look like Robin Hood, especially with the bow thing going on... Also, my pawn is probably not getting rented by randoms because she's not half naked.

I don't. If I have to speed run a game then I'm skipping story cut scenes and dialogue anyway and the story falls by the wayside. If they aren't then they don't have to speed run it.

Got some screenshots of Brienne doing...things behind the spoiler.
Brienne, jumping ship before meteors:
No, Brienne wasn't in it's clutches - she just climbed up on that Griffon, and stabbed it until it lit on fire.

Either way, I mean if they're on a tight schedule too, skip the story. I certainly would. A bad story has never affected my overall impression of a game unless it's downright offensive. Dead Island was my game of the year last year and the story was practically non-existant.
Guh... *finally* done with the pre-game escort quests. I did some roaming around in the day time and mapped out most of Gransys east of the ShadowFort. I know where the blue temple is and both healing springs and blood beach...
Im not sure what to do with my pawn Rider though. She is maxed out with Strider and Ranger and I feel no compunction to switch her to fighter or mage... maybe some of the augments in the fighter side, but She's just a cannon with a Longbow, I feel like I'd gimp her. She's still somewhat like what I had envisioned for her. I wish she'd still be able to use Ensnare+ but I think that's strider only.
I wish pawns could be hybrids too because I'd find it easier to switch to assassin or magic archer than fully switch classes.
I kind of am in the same boat. I switched my strider/ranger pawn to fighter for awhile, at least for the attack augments, then I'll switch her back. But I figure it wouldn't hurt for her to spend some time ranking up in other vocations now, just in case I want to mix things up later.

I'm amused that your main character has the same hair and beard that mine does, and we're both using Brienne.
I wonder if I should remove Brienne's Arc of Deliverance. I haven't seen it used much. Perhaps a faster striking skill would find more use, like Indomitable Lunge. Right now she's using War Cry, Arc and Indomitable Lash. She's also no longer using Mercede's armor, since what I've found is much stronger now, which makes me a little sad. I hope I'll find the hydra gallstones I need to upgrade that armor so I might be able to use it again. And speaking of Mercedes, I gave her the Arisen's Bond, because fuck Aelinore.

Just annihilated the Drake in Devilfire grove. I think I waited too long to seriously challenge it. I barely needed 3 of the 150 spring waters I brought, too.
At least the killing shot was my Heavy Bent arrow right into its weak spot. That was satisfying.
After some time with the game, is it fair to say this is a "buy your gear" rather than a "find your gear" game?
Also, I cannot find the Witchwoods. There's a path that goes up into the mountains just north if the encampment but it is inhabited by literally every bandit. Am I going the right way?

There's plenty of both, which is pretty awesome. You can find enough gear, but the loot is a bit randomized and chests take time to restock. There's also decent gear which can be bought if you don't have the patience to find it.
Lv 50 or so now rocking Mystic Knight, which I honestly think is a pretty cool class seeing as how I was a fighter and warrior for sooo long. At vocation 7 as well, so two more to go and I'm not sure when I get around to the boss what class I want to be out of the three when I down him.
Killed the Drake as well (ohh perilous/upgraded sigil is just a hoot again him with my Ice sword (which got dragon forged.. that's great stuff)
On that note of killing things, how do you handle griffins? besides the one at the tower all my experiences with them have ended up in them flying away after landing for a few seconds never to be seen again.
I wonder if Fire enchanted Magic cannon will catch one next time?. the area in the south aside the bandit castle has one show up, but it dive bombs an oxen and just takes off all the time.
