Why does it seem like every escort I try to do ends badly.
Like a Griffin swooping down and one-shotting poor Selene badly. Not like she'd have fared better further down the road, another one of the fuckers attacked me past the bridge.

Haha, do people who give ferrystone forgeries as gifts not know it says "forgery" right in the item description? Silly. I guess I have to pass it along now, though, since I have it.
Are you the magic man?

I keep being indecisive about this game, on one hand I like all the stories told here, the pawn system sounds intriguing, the various games people say it reminds them of.
On the other hand I thought the demo was really lacking, only 2 classes to try? And not even any of those I would want to play as, and I have no idea how upgrades or magic works since they didnt show me any (as usable by me)
Intervene. Then bring a Wakestone if you choose to take the third choice. But Intervene regardless. If you watch the fight Mercedes is clearly getting her ass kicked.
if you intervene, you get a cutlass. If you watch, you get Mercedes' silver rapier.
In terms of plot, I haven't gotten much further but in the immediate:
Mercedes survives both and gets Mega bummed. Julien lives or dies depending on if you intervene or not. Not sure the consequence of either at the moment, sorry

This is a good article and sums up why the pawn system is so good.

The game feels more like a beat-em-up with heavy RPG elements. Rent it first if you got the chance.

Thanks for the input.
Is it a viable choice to go Warrior/Warrior with your arisen and pawn? I guess having a mage heal/buffbot would be really helpful, but I can't shake the feeling of going as 2 warriors with huge ass swords, fistbumping when stuff is dead would be great, then I could also make the pawn Clare from Claymore or something. (Saber crossed my mind too, but sounds used alot)
Teresa of the Faint Smile would be a cool pawn too.
Edit2: Unfortunately renting games has been dead in my country for 15 years I think, atleast renting let me try Megaman X back in the days.
I just went from 800,000 gold to less than 100,000. Damn these stores having new, exciting items that I just had to buy and upgrade. On the upside, Brienne now looks like some sort of assassin with a nice red and silver motif and a 2H sword on her back.

I run hrist as my second warrior whenever I'm warrior. It's fantastic. Between the two of us we waltz into an area and wreck everything.
I actually decided to record my advance from gran soren to great wall for the end game. It has no story spoilers, just a lot of ass kickery and a few funny spots. Some fantastic moments.
Including one where I used arc of deliverance and knocked the cyclops near heavens peak fort off the cliff.

While the story isn't great I suppose I do actually enjoy the characters and voice acting
I just reached the abbey while going to the Greatwall mission
and found Quina there as a member now. I talked to her and I thought the VA did a great job with her lines saying how she feels the Arisen is drifting farther and farther away from her. I felt like a total asshole for running off having grand adventures while not thinking about my childhood friend at all. I wish there was a hug option.

Not yet. I'm gonna encode it while I'm out today then it'll take another hour or so to upload. So sometime this afternoon.
I'm level 50 though so a lot of the creatures are low level. I just recorded it for fun. But you will see some of the great warrior warrior moments with hrist.

Escort quests are frightening. I was walking up a steep, narrow mountain path with my charge in tow, when ahead I spotted an armored cyclops. Well this isn't going to be fun, I thought. But for awhile I managed to keep it stunned and down from afar, until it decided it had enough, went mad and charged...
...right into Julien, the person I swore to protect, and off the cliff to the grounds below.
The troll died, of course, but for some magical reason Julien survived the fall. I think he must have grabbed onto the beast as it fell and used it as a cushion.

How come my fighter character can't wield a sword called a "two-hander" that I found in a chest? All the menu screen shows is a slash through the item indicating I can't use it when I try to equip it but no reason is listed.

Once you progress to a certain part of the game, you can change to any vocation (class) you want, provided you have the DP to initially unlock them. Then, you can always change back (in town) whenever you like. You could stay a fighter forever if you wanted, or you could learn every vocation. Note that the abilities you learn in vocations don't always carry over (I.e. switching to Strider from fighter, your sword skills would not be usable. You'd have to learn dagger/bow skills)
Up to 6 Augments can be kept regardless of vocation. Sometimes you might want to rank up a vocation to get a specific augment (attack up is a good example. Tangible boost handy for more than just fighters and warriors)
Same applies for your pawn, except the hybrid classes are excluded for them (assassin, mystic knight, magic archer).

So, when the game displays the little auto-save ring and says 'saving game' or whatever...is there, like, a way to actually retrieve those saves or is the game just fucking with me when it says that? Because I chose 'load last checkpoint save' and it brought me to my last manual save which was, well, several hours prior.

F'n A, cotton.
The checkpoint is your save after you've rested at an inn. If you want to load a regular auto-save or manual save, you have to go back to the main menu.

Oh. Well, horseapples. I did not know that. Bit of an odd design choice but oh well.
So I changed from Strider to Warrior and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD.
Warrior is fucking brutal, so much damage in single hits. The trade off is there with the slightly longer charges and animations but its so well done. Also, I'm 8 hours in and only just saw an Ogre. Also those predator wannabe Saurians. Also the Undead. Basically, I saw a lot of new shit in the past 4 hours. Cracking on with the side quests now so a steady stream of gold and XP heading my way too.
If they do another game like this one, I hope they do please please do, I hope you could make your character so big and powerful it could actually hold the larger monsters in place. Not a Cyclops obviously, or even an Ogre, but you could grab a Chimera and bring it down by its mane.
I changed to sorcerer to boost some magic power. Didn't quite feel it at first, but I'm kind of digging it now. I'm pretty impressed at how all the vocations are pretty fun, even if they might not be something I'd normally play with.
My current annnoyance with the game? I keep getting over encumbered. And the best thing is that as soon as I decide I don't need this, that and the other...... I fucking need it. Like I popped the potion the removes blindness and I swear, within 10 minutes I was battling a bandit sorcerer who blinded me.

Two handed weapons are for warriors.
You purchase new vocations with the same currency used to buy your skills, though you need to be at the Inn in Gran Soren to do so.

Yes, and if you've played a Final Fantasy game with a Job systen it's basicly that with a new name.
This game is way underrated.
Anyway, I'm playing a Strider currently with a Mage pawn.
If any one wants to molest my pawn, my PSN ID is Beltaine-77 and pawn's name is Vegas. She needs some experience.
