Apparently the game managed to sell 330k in Japan so far. That's pretty damn impressive for a new IP!

I hope that means they make a sequel. This being Capcom we're talking about that might seem like a silly thing to worry about, but the reviews are really quite bad for this game. I hope it does well on word of mouth alone.

Randoms keep bombing my pawn's ratings and giving me nothing. Thanks a lot vV Tough Guy 91 Vv! In the hat-based wakestone-based post game economy you'd think they could afford at least something. I always give out ferrystones, they're useful for everyone.

Wow, looking at those statistics, I'm in the very bottom of class choice percentiles with both my pawn and I, being a Sorcerer Arisen and a Ranger Pawn.

Yeah, I was too until last night...now I'm Sorcerer with a Mage Pawn.

That's a fine gift. I like to give those to my favorite pawns.

Actually, Capcom seems to do more bullshit DLC and re-images then sequals these days.

And the reviews for this are really good, I have no idea what you're talking about there. High 70s on Metacritic. The reviews that love it love it and the few that don't spend an inordinate amount of time bitching about very very few things.

Eh, the reviews are fair to middlin' on the whole. There are some fairly scathing reviews and very few of glowing praise. The good reviews tend to give it a solid 'B', and as we all know, a 70-anything in this industry is bargain-bin fodder, especially if it's a new IP. I truly believe that more people would have given this a look if Capcom hadn't had its recent PR blemish with the DLC/monetization fiasco, and if they'd done any marketing for it whatsoever. Heck, Kingdoms of Amalur certainly seemed to get far more advertising space than this did (granted EA's got deeper pockets than Capcom, but still, we're not talking about an indie startup company here).

Just killed me an Ur Dragon.

@Monger, I hope you're okay with me giving Maya a staff that ups her Magick by over 500 points compared to her old one (746 to 1249).

So, I think I've screwed myself out of a reward, returning the Duke's ring.

Not only did I not make a forgery to turn in instead (and instantly regreted it, being a MK that wants to accually use Stone Grove and Holy Glare once in a while, something I can't change because I hit a checkpoint save right after) but the duke himself has vanished from the castle, leaving Feste as a seat warmer, so he can't even open the treasure room for me!

Did I screw up by leaving the ring as the last quest for that series? Will the duke be gone forever, or at least no longer be in a talking mood on this playthrough? I've already done the quest for
    The cockatrice
right after, and it's still only Feste standing in front of the throne. Please tell me I don't have to do a NG+ to fix this...

    So many questions and comments...

OK so I got a set of Stilettos off of an armor/weapon/skeleton pile on the path heading to the Witch's Woods then promptly died in one hit to the bandits at the top. No problem, load my game up, head back, loot the Stilettos again--wait, a SKULL? OK... die again. Run back from the village, kill the wolves, save just before looting. A rock. Die to rocks, load, loot... yeah, I did this about 20-25 times before I finally got those Stilettos again. So random loot is fun. Ugh. That learned my ass to save more often when I get something good.

I got to Gran Soren and changed from a Strider to a Magick Archer. At first I wasn't a huge fan because the bow didn't fire nearly as fast, but wow did I change my tune. I'm using the Magick Crutch upgraded to 3* right now.

Is there anything I should be doing early on to get good stuff? I went into the Everfall (is that what it was called?) and ran away at the end. When should I go back in there?

What do vocation ranks do? Anything? I'm pretty high up in Magick Archer already and my Pawn (Cyndane, my XBL tag is Fawst) is almost maxed as a Mage.

Dammit, I spent so much money upgrading stuff for my Magick Archer, but you guys are making Assassin sound awesome. I ALMOST went with that, too.

Does the Ur Dragon respawn? I thought that thing was a one-time fun event for everyone that got to the end game. I take it that thing just constantly spawns and gets killed via many many people hitting it and everyone gets some nice lewt?

I think I'll go read the wiki to see if there's any good info there... I'm dying to get home and play more, but I have to do laundry tonight. And tomorrow is trivia night. And Friday is my dad's birthday. And Saturday is a wedding. UGH.

EDIT: Jesus I hate wikia.com. Those pages always suck. The Demon's Souls/Dark Souls wikis should be the template used for every game.

You could have just saved by the gather point and reloaded. :P

You can learn new skills and augments as you get higher in rank.

#1 way to get your pawn hired: pretty character, support vocation (female mage/sorcerer)

A friend just picked this up, and not only did he go pretty female Mage for his pawn in hopes that she'd be popular, he also gave her the biggest rack the sliders could handle. :P

Probably didn't help that I equipped her with a bunch of spare gear which included a Lady's Corset. Ahem.

jdarksun/Blackjack, that makes sense about Vocations and Skills. I thought new Skills unlocked as I leveled. It didn't click that they were showing up when my Vocation ranks went up.

And Blackjack, is there a fast way to reload your game? Or did you mean quit without saving then load? I think it was probably faster for me to sprint up the hill to the rocks :)

But... that's exactly what I did :) Checked the pile, ran to the boulders, died, retried. I thought you were saying there was an "easy" way to reload your game, like, you know, selecting "Load Game."

Here's another quick question regarding Vocations, since it's not clear in the wiki... purchased vocations can be "freely switched in and out of" but I'm assuming they keep the rank you left them at when you switch? In other words, if I go try Assassin and decide I want to go back to Magick Archer, I don't have to purchase all of my skills again, do I?

Yeah you retain everything you have learned, which is what allows you to switch augments in from other vocations.

God, my OCD of completing quests is keeping me from moving ahead with the main quest. Thankfully I think I can finish up all the non kill-this-many-things quests tonight and move ahead with the core of the game. Just like any exploratory game, I do SO MUCH before even really getting into the plot. Case and point - I spent nearly 60 hours in Skyrim poking around and getting up to level 30ish before talking to the graybeards. So...yeah.

And exploring is even better in this game.

And it just hit me that I don't think I ever double-checked the quest board in the Encampment. Great. I wonder if I missed out on anything there, now? I have to head back in that general direction anyways for this Grimoire quest, so I'll do that when I get home I suppose.

Not necessarily. You should get a quest from the advisor to go see the duke, where he slowly walks you to him. And then the duke slowly walks you to the treasury. You might have to do the Salvation quest before this happens, I can't quite remember.

There are vendors in the Everfall?

Chamber of Remorse and Chamber of Estrangement. Bring a ton of money, just a single weapon is 700k. The weapons have slightly higher damage than Ur Dragon drops but no enchantment. And they don't really look quite as cool. The merchants also sell single pieces of different extremely rare sets that are on par with the Ur Dragon set, but don't look ugly. Lady Macbeth has a robe from one of them.

To you and I, a mid-seventies score might not be a middling one, but to the masses it certainly seems to be the case. I don't want to derail the thread on a 'review scores are bad' tangent but it's definitely the case that anything below 80 is considered sub-par in this generation of AAA-sell-a-million-or-you're-out titles. And really, going through most of those Metacritic reviews (the "professional" sites only, not the user reviews), the only recognizeable name that gave this game anything above an 80 was Gametrailers. All of the more reputable sites, those that most (here at least) seem to put stock in like Eurogamer, Edge, Giantbomb, Joystiq and such, ranged from tepid to outright revulsion (Joystiq's specifically).

Personally, I sometimes feel as if I'm not playing the same game as a lot of the reviewers, because short of some very minor complaints, this game is nigh-flawless in my eyes. But then, I can understand where the detractors are coming from because I felt the -exact- same way about the Witcher 2. People seemed to treat that game as if it were the best thing ever and I could not have disagreed more, I absolutely loathed it. Different strokes and all that, but the problem here is, and I think one of the review sites said it best, this is one of Capcom's most ambitious games in the past decade or more and it will likely get passed up because some of the pro review sites collectively dumped on it. I really hope it gets a sequel, honestly, because it absolutely deserves one. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if it doesn't.

The game sold 300k in the Japan launch week and that's apparently the largest new IP launch over there this console generation. Hopefully sales continue and that will justify more games of this style. I doubt it did so well in the US and EU and it only charted at 3rd in the UK last week.
