Black Manta is just an awesome villian period. He's not a villian to score big or anything like that --- He's Black Manta because he has a personal vendetta against Aquaman. His entire reason d'etre is to make Aquaman suffer for killing his father.
Black Manta also has the coolest design. I always picture that bizarre, alien looking helmet, with it's glowing red eyes, in the darkest part of the ocean

Wait, so that's the backstory for Black Manta this time around? I feel like it changes any time the author drawing him at the time feels like whipping up a new one.

Black Manta is the 21st in a line of criminals that originated in 1536, when the father of British pirate Christopher Manta was killed during a Royal Navy attack. Swearing an oath to fight for evil on the skull of his father's murderer, Christopher started the legacy of the Black Manta that would be passed from father to son, leaving people to give the mysterious figure nicknames such as "The Ghost Who Swims", "The Fish Who Cannot Die" and "Guardian of the Eastern Seas", believing him to be immortal.

The one you quotes is the current backstory. Black Manta was hired by Doctor Shin to get a sample of Aquaman's blood or something like that so that he can go forward with his research on Atlanteans. Black Manta gets into a fight with Aquaman's father, Aquadad gets messed up and dies in Aquaman's arms. Aquaman goes to get revenge, and in the confusion kills Manta's father instead of Manta.
have they revealed the plot device that allows for the non powered folks to survive their battles?
Well, it's quite simple, they have this magical LOOK OVER THERE! *runs away*
Also, I have very high doubts Damian is going in for the simple fact that I do not see them wanting to walk into the shit-show of media attention that would follow having an 11 year old shooting jets of blood after getting stabbed/shot/thrown through a wall/punched into space by Superman/eaten by a shark in their game.
have they revealed the plot device that allows for the non powered folks to survive their battles?
Who gives a shit?
Well me for one.
and I guess the design team since it's a plot point.
I second the "who gives a shit" notion. It is a fighting game. We didn't used to have elaborate stories with our fighting games back in the they. People just fight. The fact they are are including a story mode for this gives no one the right to complain about this "OoOoOh, but how can they survive fighting Superman, OoOoOh." It will either be explained in STORY MODE, in the comic, or who gives a shit and just enjoy the game.
With each trailer I am getting more excited. The fact that the story mode will be like MK9 is fantastic. MOAR CHARACTERS!

i'm going to say i give a shit, in fact I give several shits.
When games fail to give a plausible explanation or worse the who gives a shit its a fighting game an entire subsection of players how dont normally play fighting games will think, well damn its just another fighter with DC/Marvel/Capcom/Anime skins.
If you are going to create a set of skins based off of X universe then you need to give more than a tip of the hat to said universe if you want to draw in their fanbase.
One of the reasons that I eventually passed on MK vs DC was the dark khan plot device.

Man people keep missing that they've already promised to explain how the fights are fair through story devices. I was just asking if that bit of the plot has been revealed yet. Apparently the ideas of a good plot and a fun game are not mutually exclusive.

"How am I supposed to fight Superman? Won't I get smashed into a puddle of meat bits before I can blink?
"Thank God we Luthor invented the Whatever Device."
well since it was explained away in DCvMK with "it's maaaaaaagic~!" i expect the same to be true in this one. but i too am in the boat of not caring-ness
I am starting to build hype for this game as time goes on. Plus any game that allows me to go into the training room and kick the shit out of superman for hours can't be all bad.

My only weirded out thing is that it seems in the Aquaman trailer that Shazam is on Superman's side. Dude is usually a bigger boy scout than Superman but he's right there on the enslave the world to protect itself from itself platform. One would think he'd be on the rebel side.
I mean, in the battle arena stuff, it looks like Shazam has a white hood (good). In the trailer, he has a dark one (bad). That is what I assume that means. Ha.
And I don't mean to sound like a goose when saying I don't give a shit about why they can survive fighting each other. This is a fighting game. I care about how fun the gameplay is. If the story mode really wants to explain why everyone is fighting then I am OK with that. I won't lose sleep over not knowing why my fighting game characters are fighting. Games might have come a long way, but this is still a fighting game. The story mode stuff is a fun bonus. That is all.

I heard this as the voice of Floyd the barber from the Andy Griffith Show. If that was your intention, well played!
I've no idea how "MK games are known for their fatalities and horrible violence, the cross over with DC removed this completely. " got in above my quote, but being I'm on IE6 I can't edit it. That was a comment I was going to post about a month back but then thought better of it.

Count me in as another who doesn't give a shit why they can fight one another, so long as the gameplay is good I don't mind. I would not hold much confidence in the story mode adequately explaining that given how the entire premise of the game starts from the preview comics.
What matters is that they have set up that everyone fights one another and they have made a fun looking game. Huzzah!
If they are smart they will have exactly what is in MK9. But I have a small voice in me saying, "This is a side project. It won't have all the same features." Even though this isn't really a "side" project for them.
Hopefully they do. I assume story mode, online/offline vs, tag matches, online lobbies, and challenge tower.

I'm guessing it will be all be handled quickly with dialogue:
Batman or Luthor: "We've augmented all of our weapons and armor to give us a chance, but this will still be the fight of our lives!" etc. etc.
If that rumor about Raven being in, doubly so.
I'm finding it hard to believe that she would be part of Supe's entourage and not be playable
It'd be nice to have Hawksomeone playable, and more female characters are always good (is Hawkman in?).

And I personally dread an in-game explanation because it will no doubt be ham-fisted and probably insulting.
Capcom didn't even bother.
y no does ryu dies when wolverine berserker barrage?
iono, play da gaem.
So people who are curious about the plot of the game are obsessive nerds.
Interesting.
Well to be fair, Capcom fighters don't even have stories.
But yeah, put me in the camp that doesn't care why Superman isn't one-shotting Harley.

I for one lost sleep over how Johnny Cage, an actor, could throw green balls of hurt.
