NSMB U if it is anything like 3D Land or NSMB Wii will be the best game at launch.

Assuming you haven't grown completely bored of Nintendo's endless stream of Mario games by now. NSMB Wii was competently designed and all but it felt like a retread rather than a new game. At least Mario Galaxy felt like a new game.

But hey, each NSMB title makes Nintendo a gazillion dollars, so why bother putting in more effort than the bare minimum?

I assume you go into the threads for basically every franchise running today and post the same thing?

Well its already 4 player (5 if you want someone on block creation duties) so yes, it is basically NSMBWii2.

That game has some of the best level design in the Mario series and I love playing the game 4 player co-op. Not announcing that you can do this online though was sort of a bummer, though the real joy of multiplayer platforming might be hampered by any amount of lag.

Outside Miiverse, there really wasn't much of any mention of online. At all. For anything.

    I'm still excited about WiiU.

The Wii was my favorite console this generation and a lot of the WiiU's features excite me.

The gamepad and all it can do, the small form factor, the power is decent, backwards compatibility, some good games right from the start and the one game i'm willing to double dip for (Batman).

I just need to know about transferring purchases from the Wii and how their digital storefront works.

It's a huge bummer to see two new Mario platformers that have absolutely nothing even remotely interesting or new going on, I never thought that would happen. It was cool to see the controller screen being used like an inventory and batarang camera, though, even if it wasn't surprising that is a really cool controller.

Of course, if the WiiU doesn't have much other than the usual first party suspects and 360/PS3 ports, I won't be on board, but who know what'll happen: maybe the WiiU will become a developer's haven after overly expensive PS4s/Xbox3s crash and burn or something.

Despite being disappointed with the conference, looking back on it there are quite a few games that might entice me to pick it up at launch. Mario, Rayman, Pikmin, Lego, and the platinum game look pretty good. Still missing Retro though :( but Nintendo's been good about keeping news coming throughout E3.

Yeah, my complaints aren't only focused on Nintendo. All in all, I've been very disappointed by this E3.

But, it really felt like Nintendo is milking Mario even more than usual right now.

    New Super Mario Bros. U
    New Super Mario Bros 3DS
    Luigi's Mansion
    Paper Mario 3DS
    Nintendoland

The WiiU is a brand new console; it would be nice if they had a cool new IP to kick it off. The self-indulgent mini-game collection, Nintendoland, doesn't count.

EDIT: Clarification - a cool new 1st Party IP to kick it off. There are a couple promising new 3rd party games that I'm looking forward to trying out. I'm just disappointed that it feels like Nintendo isn't trying very hard with the WiiU.

Just doing a quick glance at the 3DS's history, looks like they did a five month lead between the infodump and the Japanese release, and then had US details about two months prior to the US release.

I'm also surprised by some of the big software releases that didn't get highlighted during the system reveal, but later in the week of E3: Star Fox and OOT remakes, Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing all showed up in later press events or on the show floor.

I'm curious to see what shows up throughout the week. Optimism, yeah?

There's a reason Nintendo spent so much time trying to get people to go to their E3 site (e3.nintendo.com). As always it's a pretty good resource which will probably be ignored by most of the press.

This video gives a pretty good idea of a lot of gamepad features and includes an annoying family for free.

It was a joke about how they are handling yoshi in the game. EXG: yoshi has always been the carrier of mario and not the other way around.

That and yoshi turns into a giant balloon and spits bubbles.

Man, I still dunno. That controller looks about as large as I was expecting, and while some of the demo'd functionality looks awesome, some of it looks much clunkier than could be accomplished with a more traditional controller (IE: inventory management. I mean, yikes, the last thing I want to do in a shooter is look away from the screen & scroll through a menu to reload my gun or swap weapons).

I was hoping the controller would be about the size of an iPhone.

    That alternative controller looks nice.

Not to be a party pooper, but don't you already have a PS3, 360, or gaming PC that could run those? Just to be clear, I'm not saying "so don't buy a Wii U," I'm saying "wait until there are a few exclusives that you want on it."

They revamped him post SMW to look like the adult. Mario carries him until he eats 5 enemies ( or a power up) then he can be ridden.

I was able to hold the Wii U controller at last year's E3. It was very comfortable; and I too was questioning whether it was too big or not. I doubt that the slight increase in size in the final controller model will change the feel that much. It was also very light.

I'm interested in the WiiU but I don't want to get burnt like I did buying the 3DS at launch. It being overpriced, shit battery, clam shell design that scratched the screen and long drought of games really put a damper on me buying a Nintendo console at launch.

I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

I'm not concerned about the weight or comfort (Nintendo know how to engineer with ergonomics in mind), but just playing with my hands so far apart... did you feel like you were able to synch your finger movements just as well as with a more typical controller?

It seems like it'd really throw-off your coordination.

Hard to say at this point, but the Wii U is a solid accessory that will bring a fresh element to Nintendo gaming.

So something literally just hit me:

We don't know the exact specs on the tablet screen, but it looks to be fairly impressive. I am not expecting iPad level, but definitely high quality.

We do know that the screen is terminal based - the image is rendered on the console and transmitted to the controller, and displayed with as little lag as possible. This is evidenced by the reports of the framrate/quality dropping with 2 Gamepads.

So what happens when you turn the tablet OFF, and dedicate that processing power to the console itself? IE turn the Wii U into a 360/PS3?
