It is cool to see young players do well, but I agree that they haven't got the personality or stories behind them that older and more established players will have. They also can't handle themselves as well in the spotlight as the more experienced players, and so it does become harder to relate to them.
To be fair...a good amount of "experienced" players crash and burn inthe spotlight quite often.
At least with younger players you have the excuse of youthful ignorance to fall back on instead of racist/sexist/bully/douchebag/sellout.
From random pages on google with no further sources, average (and youngest) age of the male professional athlete:
soccer: 30 (14)
tennis: 24-26 (15)
NFL: 27 (19, by rule, but only 1 drafted at this age)
MLB: 24 (15)
golf: 25 (14)
olympic gymnast: 20 (16 by rule, China was found using younger athletes).
I'm older than all of these people, so relative age doesn't matter to me anymore. In games like Starcraft or chess I appreciate that a savant can come along at any age and enjoy watching young players improve and do creative things. I always root for White-Ra though, he's 6 months younger than me!

If chillin' dominate the slots then I can see it taking a little away from the spectator aspect, but a young'in every now and then is fine.
Ultimately though, doesn't the game come down to skill?
You have divas day in and day out, they come in fast and die out fast. If the game is good enough, entertaining enough (this is where the skill comes in), then its longevity is more assured than relying on drama as it's core.
We try to make rock stars out of normal people because the crowd loves an idol, but long term the game is the draw, not the drama.
JRecco has played some the best ZvZ I've seen in a long time over the last week. Very impressive.

unfortunately he just threw that game pretty hard, was really impresed by how well he dealt with the nydus's before but fell behind on injects + attacked into a choke T.T
edit: actually maybe throwing is unfair, golden was also playing amazingly too, so cool to see prozergs utilize nydus and burrow effectively finnnaaallyyy
