Sex Headaches

Alt. Headaches. Ow.

After a stretch of about a week without sexual activity, including no solo events, last week I had a "quickie" which resulted in rapid orgasm and the most mind-blastingly painful headache I have ever experienced. This was repeated the next day, after which a couple days off were taken. Then, yesterday, an attempt was had again with the same results. Experimentation solo has produced the same results, with the added ability to feel the headache coming on slowly as excitement builds, followed by shorter duration but still insanely painful headaches.

I can find the term for this: Coital Cephalalgia. I've googled it to death. I'm going to try to make a doctor's appointment this week, during which we will discuss the rare but serious risk that I have a brain tumor, etc.

What I need is just about anything other than what's on the mayo page and wikipedia page. This is terrifying. I don't want to spend my life having to take beta blockers in order to have sex. The pages suggest that treatment sometimes involves taking some time off from sex (which was brought it on in the first place?) which I'll try, but I'm still left feeling uneasy and frightened that this will continue afterward. Does anyone know anything about this?

This happens to me for time to time, and from my understanding it's a rather common thing.

What I always do is take a week or so off from sexual activity and I'm back to normal after that.

I'm sure there was a thread about this way back when....it's happened to me a few times here and there. It can sometimes be related to holding your breath inadvertently while 'doing it'. Its quite a common thing I think, no need to be worried.

Yeah...I would say it happens to me more after a long bout of no-sex...if I'm getting it fairly regularly then it dies down, but if it's been a long time...I often get headaches.

This could be a sign of Hypertension (High Blood Pressure). If you have access to one of those home monitors, perhaps you should check your pressure daily for three days, and or follow up with a doctor.

    this usually happens to me.

but that's mainly because I stop breathing.

I had this happen for awhile once. It was very scary. It turned out it was the allergy medicine I was taking. Zyrtec, the costco brand is Allertec. I avoid it and I'm fine.

That's mostly high blood pressure. If it's a one-time thing, it's usually no big deal. But if it keeps happening, it's something to talk to a doctor about because it is a warning sign for a stroke.

This and sometimes I find this happens more often if I'm staying in hard to hold positions for extended periods. Just something else you may want to add to the think about pile.

Thanks for all the advice and support, everyone. I did go to the doctor, and he said that unless it continued, he wasn't worried. He suggested I was probably stressed and dehydrated, and that during orgasm I was vasodilating way too much. He recommended drinking lots and lots of water and having a side of caffeine for the vasoconstriction, then seeing how it went. I've been following those instructions, and while I'm still getting headaches they're less severe, so I think I'm getting better.

Thanks to Casually Hardcore, too. For some reason it's more reassuring to hear from a specific person that it'll get better, rather than just read it on mayoclinic.
