RIP Talon

I don't really know how to say this so I'll just come out and do it.
I don't even know if anyone here still liked him or even knows him, I know he hasn't been here in a long time, years probably, but for us old fogeys, I figured I'd make a thread.
Late on Sunday night, Talon died here in Portland of bacterial meningitis. He'd been sick for a couple weeks, but he kept refusing constant advice to go to the hospital until he collapsed Saturday night and he was rushed there by friends, but it was too late. He died surrounded by friends and with his family.
We hadn't actually spoken in so long but he always tried to keep in touch. The impact he had on my life makes his loss devastating.
EDIT:
If there are any Portland locals that want to come pay their respects, his mom is giving us some of his ashes and we'll be having our own service this Sunday, the 17th at the Pavilion in the Hoyt Arboretum at 6pm. We'll be having a barbecue and giving others the opportunity to say their goodbyes. It's an open event to anyone that knew him and wishes to say their goodbyes.
I gathered up everything I could find on my hard drives and in my old sketchbooks. Every drawing I still had from him and the ones I gave to him, videos he made and ones that I took of him, photos from over the years and I've collected them all into publicly viewable albums and playlists.

@Okami, I am sorry for your loss. I never knew Talon well, but I remember the name from years ago. I will try and recall what if any, interaction we might have once shared.
That's unbelievably cool. Your new name is cool guy. Let's have sex.

Was Talon the guy who went to PAX and put his IDs, money, and cards in a space in his hat and kept an empty wallet, then got mugged on the bus ride back and just gave the mugger the empty wallet?
Please say that is the guy. The best way to remember someone is to share stories. It's always shitty when someone from here dies.

Hey Stacey, I know this is really kinda... awkward to ask but what is happening with Akina (his car)
For the record, I spent a lot of time with him when he moved back to san diego for a few months, we got his car up and running and I helped him find some work... I even had a steady job set up for him. He turned it all down and kinda left; He was one of the first people from this forum that I met, and he meant a lot to me. I'm pretty broken up, I tried to get him to stay down in SD...

I have no idea, Bendery. I'm hoping to get to talk to his mom before she leaves Portland, partially to see if I can get a few sentimental things back but I'm worried she's still angry with me and might blow my request off.

After a lot of research, it sounds like even if he had gone to the hospital as soon as symptoms started, he still was within the mortality rate. Best case scenario, he might have lost a few fingers or limbs due to how it fucks with your circulation.
One of the last things we did was drive up to Julien on a Sunday Afternoon. It was probably a 3 hour drive of us just bullshitting about life, and cars. The ride up was pretty calm, we mostly just joked about how bad a driver I am and how his 86 would destroy my civic on the downhill.
Then we got our pie, and on the way back down some asshat 6 cars up was refusing to use the turnout. I'm guessing on Jay's orders my friend Peter took the first mile long stretch of road and tried to pass the guy, I followed suit and we ended up flying past this guy faster than I care to say.
Long story short, we get to a gas station and the dude catches up with us and tries to start a fight with me. Jay steps in and we basically have to pull him back in to a car to avoid a
brawl in front of a Circle-K.
Hanging out with Jay was never very smart, but it was always memorable...

Hahaha, ain't that the truth.
He thought he was such hot shit when he first got that 86. Even though he barely knew how to handle her at first he always took every chance he got to show off.
When we did a big road trip from Portland to San Diego, he blew out the clutch on the way back trying to race a 90's mustang. Literally tore the disc to shreds. The mechanic my family hooked us up with took him aside after fixing us up, showed him the old one lying on the ground and asked him "See what you did there? You fucked up. Don't do that again."
haha yeah, that sounds about right. Before he left to head back to portland, after we got that car running again I lectured him on how bald his tires were, how his tie-rods were shot, and how I'm not too sure his brakes are going to help him much if he plans on stopping.
He just kinda laughed...

Yeeeah I have a lot of stories about the terrible ways he pushed that car when it wasn't up to par for the things he wanted out of it. Like trying to drift on bald tires in the rain up here and slamming into the guard rail instead. Christ I thought we were going to die.
Didn't help that as we were driving home after that, the original hood of the car caught the wind and went WOOSH right into the windshield because the crash had ruined the lock mechanism. He fastened it with a shoe lace but my eyes never left the hood of that car until we were back of the apartment.

Never actually met him, but I know several fun stories with him (and @Bendery It Like Beckham) and he was always a fun guy to talk with online.
Really sorry to hear this, @Okami
He will definitely be missed.

Haha, yeah he lied a lot when he didn't want to admit he'd done something obviously stupid.

Yeah, the infamous "Buttery Furry" story that Bendery tells.
We made a shot up for it.
We will all have to do lots of those this PAX to tribute to him.

I wish he had chosen to go to the hospital, but I guess he had his reasons.

He'd been here a long time, and though we seldom interacted i've seen a lot of his posts and he came across as a genuinly cool dude.
My condolences to all that were close to him.

for a variety of reasons I wound up spending most of pax '06 with talon
he was a good kid and I always wanted to meet up with him again at some point
and then chickened out
which, realistically, probably gave us more entertainment than if he had actually blown it up
edit: I could have sworn nobody else mentioned this earlier
ah well
