So how does the buddy pass thing work? Do they regenerate or is it one per paying account, period?
EDIT: Also if the person we refer signs up do we get free stuff in the way of funcom bux?
One time only for one day, they stop being available on the 15th of July (although it's possible they explore a different scheme after this.) No referral bonus.

If anyone wants a buddy pass, give me your e-mail. Preferably someone who has a strong interest and not an MMO hopper who just wants to try the latest one all the cool kids are playing.

Very intrigued by this game - I'm honestly surprised I haven't heard of it. Think I'll wait for the first big patch though - no rezzing in an MMO doesn't seem like a great idea to me, though I've been known to change my mind. Is it implemented well?
It's a non-issue. Instances are made in such a way that there are respawn points within them, so there's no spawning outside of the instance after you die or whatever.
Also interesting to note is when you die against a boss in a dungeon. Instead of laying there or respawning elsewhere, you spawn in a "penalty box" where you can't leave until the fight is over or everyone is dead. You can however click on a little icon that allows you to view the fight as a spectator, which is pretty awesome. Also at the respawn points in dungeons you can repair your gear which is fantastically handy.
edit-
Random Thoughts:
1) Why, for the love of everything Sacred and Holy, is "Show Advanced Abilities Description" (or whatever it is called) even an option? Damn thing should be on all the time! D3 was also afflicted with this odd design choice.
2) Kind of wish I could save my clothing "loadouts" for easy changing. No real reason besides pure vanity. :P
3) I sort of thought getting tons of AP on a regular basis would make things easier. It has not. Now I have SO MANY OPTIONS!
4) Investigation missions, while awesome, are something I will have to set aside a fair amount of time for.
5) Dungeons are bitch'n.
6) I kind of want a Fez.

I had to reformat my computer tonight, and since the servers are down for maintenance right now, I can't even start the game download to run while I'm gone. Fuuuuuuuuuck.
My shotgun/elemental strike/crit build is finally starting to pick up some key abilities and it's great. I only have one problem right now, and that's that I tend to get a lot more glancing hits than I'd like. My weapon skills are up to date. Could it be my hit rating? Is there any way to see how hit rating is affecting my chance to glance, or an idea of how much I need? I don't see any percentages in the stats tab, just numbers which aren't helpful.
As far as I know there is nothing that shows a % for glance. I'm not sure it would be possible to show it though, because its based on the monsters defense rating, which varies a lot. There is the % evade thing, which I'm not sure how useful the number is because I haven't found what the base evade % is on monsters... I assume it varies too.
Still waiting on the dataminers and min/maxers to figure out some solid stuff... for now, the most common thing I see is to get 400 hit rating for PVE. This becomes pretty easy later on with a few glyphs and/or passive.
The loading tip says that increasing skill level in a weapon effects damage. Is this just referring to the passive bonus and the ability to equip better weapons? Other than the small passive buffs, is there a reason to go up both lines of the skill paths?
I'm pretty sure there is some hidden math going on that accounts for your skill level of the weapon you are using and the quality level of the weapon itself. I noticed in elite dungeons, when going from Q9 > Q10... even when I wasn't getting a huge stat increase, glancing hits against mobs were less and my defenses felt more solid. Even though the game doesn't have levels, you can pretty much use talisman/weapon quality as your overall level range.

We are most definitely looking into ways for players to traverse the secret world in the future -- including, possibly, mounts, as well as through more...esoteric methods. Keep in mind that the players are still fresh recruits to this brave new world, and haven't yet learned all they need to learn, but they -- and we -- will get there. Link

After the quick fix on the weekend, the chat issues have become worse, at least on my end of things. The patch notes say that a lot of the bugged quests have been fixed, we'll see I suppose, but hopefully they actually are corrected because god damn is that annoying. Running into a wall and wondering if you just don't quite get it or if there is just a bug blocking you blows.
The hilarious thing is this is the smoothest MMO launch I've been a part of since Asheron's call, which came out almost a decade ago, and the broken quests and chat issues easily put this launch into the hot mess category. Still, it's a blast.
As it is, patch appears to fix the only two quests I've encountered that I couldn't finish due to bugs (I'm in late Savage Coast), so seems good to me. Chat was very flaky yesterday and sunday, so I'm hopefull this takes care of it. I think AoC had similar chat server issues early on as well, just didn't seem to scale very well.

Holy Crap, what's with the explosion of stupid geese I'm suddenly encountering in The City of the Sun God ? Kill-stealing, weenies hanging around waiting for me to open a door so they can zip inside and kill the boss I need, I had not seen such foolishness before. I've got a feeling these are the power-levelers who are only looking to rush to Level Cap and don't care much about whose gameplay experience they ruin along the way.
Never have I appreciated STAR WARS' quest reset option so much as when that sort of thing happens in THE SECRET WORLD. I wish that all other MMO's would adopt that player reset mechanism.

Well, you share credit with anyone attacking a quest mob (orange named). So they can't really steal it from you if its just a door in your way.
Now, if they run past you for it while you're occupied with other mobs, that is more troublesome.

If you got ql 2/3 gear and feel your build is solid enough then go to the next area (savage coast). I'd reccomend atleast getting your seven actives and passives before moving on.
The basic tell for me to move on is when I've done all the quests except for the storyline quests, then I do them until they lead me to the next zone.

Welcome to the inaugural The Secret World State of the Game update!
(Right, so that's a mouthful. In the future, I think I'll shorten it to TSWSotG, because that's a LOT easier to remember.)
We've had an exciting first week, and we're thrilled to see that everything has gone incredibly smooth so far. There have been some bugs and issues, of course, and we're fixing those as quickly as we can, but things are really stable and our players -- you guys! -- are very, very happy with the game. And that makes us very happy, too!
Now that players are progressing further and further into the game, uncovering all those things we've managed to keep secret for years and years, we're starting to see a lot of questions about what's next. What does the future hold for The Secret World, for our players and subscribers?
Well, I'm finally allowed to reveal a FEW of the things we're working on, and I'm really excited to be talking about what's ahead for The Secret World.
We're going to be releasing fresh and tasty new content to our subscribers on a regular, monthly basis. The first update is due on Tuesday, July 31st, and we will be releasing more details about that particular update later this week -- including a couple of fun surprises. (You're going to love it.)
So what will these updates contain? I'm glad you asked! I won't spoil too much, but here's an overview of some of the things we have in the pipelines:
* Mission packs on a monthly basis! The first few packs will contain new investigations for every adventure zone in the game -- but we also have more action and sabotage missions planned for the near future. These missions will feature fully voiced cut-scenes and new media pop-ups, and will match the quality of the missions currently in the game
* New weapons! We will be announcing our first auxiliary weapon soon (one clue: bigger, slower, more explosions) and new auxiliary weapons will be released on a regular basis. Combat in The Secret World will continue to evolve, and it will pay to expand your character in multiple directions!
* Raids! We're well into production on our first raid, and there will be more information about that in August! But as a teaser: The Big Apple will never be the same
* We've already announced our plans for expanding and improving character customisation: The Modern Prometheus and Ockham's Razor are opening in New York and London respectively in August, Execution later this year in Seoul. Pangaea in London will receive new stock, and we will add more accessories and clothing as rewards for both achievements and missions
* Chronicle has entered public beta, and we'll keep enhancing and growing that service according to player needs and wishes! Our intent is for Chronicle to become a living, breathing community in itself, and a place where players will go to measure and compare themselves against others, to check out the profiles of their co-players and rivals, and -- in the long run -- to become a living chronicle (zing!) of their player characters
* We have a player-versus-player dungeon in the early stages of planning -- in a brand new geographical area. More on this later this year!
* And speaking of dungeons, we're also working on a dungeon finder tool, allowing players to more easily put together a team to handle the instanced content
* Seasonal events won't go unnoticed in the secret world, and both Halloween and the Winter Solstice are important milestones for those who dabble (and dive deep into) the occult. Expect plenty of content to tie into both events -- including new missions, new characters, new monsters and some twists and turns that will keep players on their toes
* We're in production on two large, new and incredibly exciting adventure zones -- both of which will be announced in August. New geographical regions, new characters, new missions, new drops, new challenges, new monsters, new lore that will carry the story past its first act and into its thrilling and shocking second act!
* Improved cabal functionality is on the drawing board and will be seeing improvements later this year
* And we're not forgetting about our social players! We have some cool functionality tied to the Albion in London coming up very soon, allowing role-players and would-be thespians to spread their wings
* Pets will be updated and upgraded as we go along! More pets, better pets, and some cool surprises in store for pet owners!
* And last but certainly not least: Combat will receive constant polish and tweaks to make things look and feel better. Keep an eye out for more revisions to our effects and animations this autumn -- and the inclusion of auxiliary weapons will make combat even more exciting!
This isn't all. In fact, it's just the beginning, so stay tuned! The Secret World will keep growing, and there will always be a reason to go back to your favourite places, to dig deeper into the mysteries of Solomon Island, Egypt, Transylvania, New York, London and Seoul...and beyond.
So stick around, folks -- there's tons more to come, both this week and in the very near future. Thanks for reading, and have fun playing the game!

Generally popping into the next area and seeing how tough the early mobs are is a good indication. You can try fighting them or just conning/selecting them. The con color is based off your talisman skills and your highest weapon skill.
I would recommend when you are ready for blue mountain though just going and doing the first Egypt zone, its slightly easier and better rewards. Blue mountain is kind of rough.
Should finish the warrior deck for dragon tonight, will see how that does in transylvania. Elemental/ar has been effective so far if a bit repetitive.

I believe it's called Dead in the Water. Ran it yesterday with some PA'ers and got myself blue weapons for my new layout- though I'm still working on said layout.
If anyone's running it tonight, would love to join. My current build is pistols/fists so I'm DPS with a light dash of healing.
(Is there a limit to how often you can run these instances, by the way?)

Go to Edgars Junkyard in Kingsmouth, and click on Edgars chat bubbles until they all become check marks. That will start you off. Then, go to the Savage Coast, and go to the Overlook Hotel. There are quests around there, do those. Then , talk to the dude in the hotel until all his chat bubbles become checkmarks. Then, enter hell.

Man, if they don't have you fighting a Krampus during the Winter Solstice I may be a bit disappointed. On the same note, that covered bridge in Kingsmouth sure could use a Headless Horseman.
I am also excited to hear they are working on an actual Raid. A bit surprised too as I thought they weren't going to have traditional raids, but you won't hear me complaining!
And a PvP dungeon? Mm Mmm!
I wonder if they will ever include height (and/or weight) sliders in the future? They had them in the early beta, but I have zero idea why they decided to remove them. Maybe clothing textures were getting messed up?
Ragnar comes off like he really, really enjoys his game. That is surprisingly rare in my experience, but very cool.

I might actually like the raids if they're not 3 hour slogfests that everyone needs to schedule around.
Having to *plan* real life around a game is a huge no-no for me so I basically don't raid at all these days.

Yeah. Raids take forever if only because it takes forever to coordinate 20 people to herd toward one goal. A five minute fight still takes hours of prep in trying to get all the cats herded into one spot.
On the same note, that covered bridge in Kingsmouth sure could use a Headless Horseman.
Um... the covered bridge is already occupied. Walk by there in Anima form sometime.
However, there's a lovely covered bridge in the Savage Coast that is free!
