STOP COLOR GRADING DEVELOPERS. It made Napoleon ugly and it made BF3 ugly and it's making Rome 2 look like it's been dipped in plum juice. Go back and look at Medieval 2 Total War! That game wasn't purple!

(also these are lazy edits some look kind of too yellow and too contrasty I think but you get the idea)

Okay to be honest I mostly checked this preview to see if there's anything I could remove the purple from.

PURPLE HAZE | SCUZE ME WHILE I KISS THIS GUY

They also seem to be really fucking with the contrast. Seriously CA please make it look like the actual time that Rome existed, not Zach Snyder's 300.

Yeah, NTW was still a great looking game at launch. Even with the purple tint.

Though both these shots look disappointing, frankly.

Eh, looks fine to me. Cool little hilltop on the side of the ocean, little trading post or whatever on the top, people with spears. Although (and I have to say I'm biased here) I like the one where the water is blue and the sand is gold rather than the one where they are all shades of purple.

Well hopefully some post processing stuff comes out to fix that.

I don't think this has been posted here yet, must've got lost in the xbox1/ps4 e3 shenanigans. Posting from phone so cant embed.

Footage starts about 1:35 in campaign map and battle between Egyptians & Romans.
I think this is the first time i've seen the joint land & sea battles. Also I loved the Egyptian art style on the unit cards, hopefully they'll have different ones for each faction.

At some point since I last played; bots were added to Shogun II's multiplayer battles. This gives me very high hopes for Rome II, as it allows me to play multiplayer with my best friend and for both of us to have fun. This, as well as reading that the combat pace is a bit slower than Shogun II's. The pace of these games is all over the place, so you never really know. Rome and Shogun 2 are super fast, Medieval 2 is very slow, and Empire and Napoleon are just about right.

I've read up on the campaign changes, as its looking good. Rise of the Samurai was definitely CA's best 3d campaign to date, so this should be even better.

Do you mean Fall of the Samurai? Rise of the Samurai had even less variety and strategic variables than the vanilla campaign.

Fall of the Samurai seems like a cool idea, but given the huge rate of fire of the line infantry, the AI is even more helpless than it is in Napoleon. Feels like shooting fish in a barrel. Yes, I know that this has nothing to do with the turn based aspect, but its a round about way of saying, "I haven't played a whole lot of the campaign".

I don't know. It would seem a little silly after a point. The era was known best for its relative peace in Europe itself, with the exception of old Prussia up to no good as usual.

Perhaps it could work. I feel that Victoria II does. But that game does heavily limit a-historical expansion in Europe. And also has long periods of watching bars fill up for many nations.

Some new Campaign introduction stuff, showing off the campaign selection screen, and a look at the sort of faction bonuses available and a look at the Carthaginians.

Any word on whether we'll be able to unlock factions via the campaign/simple text file editing, as in Rome/M2? I really really want to get excited for this game, but CA's DLC policies are worrying me greatly. Athens and Sparta as paid day 1 DLC? C'mon. If you can't play as them with text editing, that's a direct example of a feature which gamers used to enjoy for free being put behind a paywall. If the DLC adds in extra units/features/etc I have no problem with it being paid, but I'd still like the ability to flip a switch in text files and play as the less shiny version of the faction in the base game.

Okay so although the purple still royally pisses me off, learning that the game will have 1v1 multiplayer matchmaking with a ladder and elo rankings has actually made me consider picking this up. I've never played multiplayer in previous Total War games, although I've watched some YouTube videos - is it enjoyable? Is there depth? Does it just devolve into stupid gimmick army compositions or are the fights just not very interesting? I like competitive multiplayer and I'm curious what this game will be like.

Won't buy the game because it has the wrong colours.

    Like a girl.

I'll keep my eyes on this, I'm not really a total war fan though I did play a fair bit of shogun 2. The battles against the AI just became a bit simplistic after awhile, though my shinobi army was baws.

Edit: God Hannibal is so god damned cool.

Okay, I'm just going to say here that I like the hue shading. Just like the golden sheen in Deus Ex HR, it gives the game an interesting and unique colour palette and style.

The retouched screenies you post are fine, but boring. We have spent an awfully long time with more or less realistic colouring. And as a further subtlety, you can clearly see that the art direction on the textures has been specifically designed to leverage the palette - much of this is lost when you colour convert.

And finally, if it bothers you so much then just get one of those visual engines that allow you to customize the deuce out of the game, and you will be happy.

Yeeeaahh. Wouldn't be surprised to see some graphic or postfx work. They finally got a little more mod friendly with shogun 2 which gives hope to a customizable/modding experience.

Regardless, although that purple hue is indeed annoying it won't keep me from enjoying this game if the game itself is good. Which it looks like it will be!

Anyone try the Great War Mod for Napolean?
