So, let's talk about Emulation!

I've been asked to make it very clear that several things are not to happen in this thread:
1) No links to actual emulators.
2) No links to ROMs.
3) No links to sites dedicated to dispensing the previous.
4) No discussion of the forum rule regarding console emulation, as it was handed down from on high by our glorious masters who dwell in the towers of ivory and onyx.
To kick things off:
Personally, I think emulation is moral when you are downloading and playing software which isn't manufactured anymore. If I want to play Big Sky Troopers on my computer, I damn well should be allowed. And what if I own the original cart anyway? What then?
there is a way to get blank GBA cartridges and put the ROMs on there
i can not say how

Emulators have helped me through many exceptionally boring lectures. Also they have started many conversations. People sitting next to or behind me all going "Are you playing SNES? Cool!"
i've wanted to play ultima 4 since forever, but even though i finally tracked down the cartridge and my nes is busted, i still won't dl the emulator for it because it would not be the same
my fondest memory is when the early snes emulators could run ff3 around '95 i played it on my badass 386sx laptop rocking probably 2fps. oh to be young again

i think emulation is okay once a thing has gone out of print and such
like sega doesn't make money from sales of genesis consoles and games anymore so really the only hangup is the fact that they are obligated to protect their intellectual property or risk losing it or somesuch
if it is something that you can still easily buy then emulating it just makes you a big cheapskate dickhead
a lot of this moral grey area could be solved if some of these companies liscenced official emulators and then sold game roms for like a couple bucks apiece
then you could play games on your computer, the companies could protect their copyrights, some money would be made, etc.
kinda like the virtual console on the wii, but for pc and such, you know what i'm sayin'
I don't see what's wrong about if the people who made the games don't make money from them any more anyway except through licensing and further selling of emulated/ported software. The only reason it is illegal is because these days copyright infringement is synonymous with theft. I could go read more details about copyright law but I don't want to.
i live in canada so basically after learning that police do not show up at your door after you download commander keen 2 off a bbs it has been a wonderful and crazy ride free of ethical dilemma and consequence
and the lion king was a ridiculous game now i want to load it up shit
oh man i still have the turok music in my head i loved that game. not a huge fps guy but come on giant ass crystal beam weapon that explodes half the screen that was pretty okay

God bless you Chrono Trigger
Not the same. Finding one on eBay or somewhere and loving it right is how it should be done.
But it still works.
The fact that you can tow them around is what makes them cool
Sitting at my computer and saving instances sucks
do you want one of my mega man x games
JordynNolz.com <- All my blogs (Shepard, Wasted, J'onn, DCAU) are here now!
i can not say how
that is pretty fun
but nothing touches the original consoles

it lets me play a lot of games that i have
i have Duke Nukem 3d and Rise of the Triad and Doom 2 all set up to run on my network
i felt really good when i got that setup
i dunno about legality but it works great and it adds a ton of settings
that game kicked ass
and the lion king was a ridiculous game now i want to load it up shit
i think 3dRealms released the source code for Duke 3d and if so then windows ports are legal
but i like playing the original version on dosbox because it is more authentic and such
i just loves killing me some pig cops
which sucks because it is my favorite
hells of DIPSTICK
WOOF
dog mode motherfucker
i'm always on about how i hate fps games
but i love doom 2 and rott and duke 3d and dark forces and so forth
what is it about modern fps games that irritates me so damn bad
could it be because none of them are any different than Turok
It's just Turok over and over they don't grow really.
because god, i fuckin' hate turok so much
bow n arrow time gun fighting dinosaurs time traveling
all games have followed the turok model: Gimmicks
Hammer of Dawn (barely get to use it)
Bowcaster Gun
Chainsaw Melee
Spider Boss
Krill
they should just make some new levels for duke 3d
i'd be cool with that
i can't think of any for me...Ninja Gaiden was awesome, but a little to plasticy
hmmm
how come i love it so much
my relationship with this genre is very confusing to me
