So, I managed to get some quality time in with this over the weekend and am fairly impressed.. For a free to play shooter, it's definitely polished about as well as one could ask. Does this game just get broken, in regards to pay to win, the higher levels? I'm hoping it's no worse than TF2 because I do like this a bit more currently... The level system is very addicting, and being able to rent items is a great idea for a freemium game.
Also, is there a way to see the name of the map before choosing loadout? I finally unlocked a 2nd, so it's not as bad, so I have 1 SMG + Revolver with a scope, and 1 semi-auto rifle (with the bad 3.4x scope that's slow, gonna change it most likely as only 1 or 2 maps have large enough vantage points to make use of it..) but man, it's very frustrating to play regular Deathmatch and choose the wrong weapon for a map (An SMG on that coastal one, or a sniper on that one with the 5 levels up and down, all tight corridors with walls/boxes never letting you really abuse high ground moreso than an assault.) I'm gonna spend a little time looking around, and registering, so if anyone wants to play some in about 20min or so, I'd definitely be interested in that.
Yeah, trying to keep a guy in your sights with manual aim can be extremely obnoxious if they're too close. Trying to aim down sights all the time is actually a bad habit here, since it makes you slow enough for a moving player to hip-fire to death pretty easily while close up.
On that score, I would advise learning the names of the maps and just not play on the bullshit tiny ones that just favor constant sprint-and-shoot. There are at least 3-4 larger maps that are a lot more fun to play since everyone isn't just jammed together and there are a lot more opportunities to play something besides hip-firing SMGs/automatics.
That's another thing I think I've yet to memorize. I guess the best strategy would be: Memorize map layout, and be ready to aim at specific points where players usually are, as well as keeping my sights at a certain hight (head range)?
At medium-long ranges I feel like something's wrong: True, I have a hard time keeping enemies in my sight when they're moving - but sometimes I swear I've got them in my sight while firing for almost a second and not a single bullet will hit
Just saw this while reading the thread, and I'd check your latency (anything under 100ms and even slightly over it, I believe doesn't have much bullet lag, but I noticed a little bit early on as well, but I think it could also be game mechanics based on how the spread/recoil works). This game has a lot of mechanics about recoil/spread, and you can see the stats for your gun in the customization screen. If you like to shoot at long range, definitely use either a sniper or the bolt-action/combat(?) rifle.. They have 0 spread when aimed for the first shot, so are the best way to check for bullet lag, but I believe that bullets do actually have a ittle travel time in this game. I have definitely gotten the feeling you can walk into, or out of head shots.. And the bunny hopping/crouching is really reminding me of early day CS.

It doesn't seem like pay to win to me, but I'm only up to level ~14 or something so I dunno. You can change your loadout ingame by hitting F1 for your first loadout of F2 for your second, and when you respawn you'll have the new loadout.
And the bunny hopping/crouching is really reminding me of early day CS.
Allowing for bunny hopping, even unintentionally, makes me want to punch devs in the face. It shouldn't be that hard to keep it out of a game; don't let people ADS when jumping or immediately afterwards (even if it's just a fraction of a second) and their aim needs to be completely horrible briefly after they land. None of this crap where somebody can hop all over the place and almost immediately have their hipfire aim become accurate after landing.
EDIT: In-game is NinjaSnarl, by the way. Could do with some clanning.

I really like this game, but the last time I played (when it was posted on raptr a while back) I had to play with all the settings on low and it still ran like poop. But that didn't stop me from pooping on everyone.
The minigun is cool and you dudes should try it. Except when Vander sneaks up on you and unloads a magazine in your back, then you just die.
The worst part about that is that after i picked up your minigun, someone killed me from behind before i could use it .
Also, sorry minor incident for using the stinger to blow you up, but in my defence, bolt action rifles piss me off occasionally and the stinger is my go to anti-everything weapon.
It's like, enemy harsduit-> stinger, enemy sniper-> stinger, enemy in the open-> stinger, enemy in cover-> stinger etc. For general purpose i actually like the stinger better than the swarm launcher, as although the swarm launcher has a bigger explosion, it travels slower and can't hit things at close range. With enough good aim, the stinger is almost as good, but much cheaper cp wise.
I'm used to it to a degree, but it's so much worse in KC. I suppose because the internet masses have come to understand basic CTF and point control matches, but this mode is somewhat new for most people so they just freeze up.
They can be pretty bad at Netwar, too. I mean even though it's just domination + CTF, that flag can just sit there unnoticed for long stretches of time.
@minorincident: I saw that you invited me to the clan, but I couldn't find the menu option to accept that invitation. There's a "clan" tab on the social menu, but that just told me I was not in a clan and suggested that I buy a clan.

Rrrgh, this business with reticles not being dead-on is really starting to get under my skin. Thought I'd try to throw a red dot on a bolt-action so I can retain some situational awareness when scoped in. But nope! Apparently using a 3x/4x scope makes the gun fire completely differently than with a red dot, so much so that even well within the effective range of the bolt-action, the red dot's inaccuracy will somehow send a bullet way off target instead of into center of mass.
They should at least give me another blooming reticle when scoped in so I at least have an idea of which general area a shot will land in instead of just hoping for the best.

You still shot me in the face with a rocket.
Totally uncalled for, dude.

do stingers do friendly fire damage? i totally had a teammate jump in front of my rocket on vortex today and body-blocked it
I don't think it does any damage, but friendly bodies definitely block your shots. It's really great when some moron charges right into your lane of fire, blocks your rocket, and then gets both of you mowed down by the hardsuit you were about to pop.

lol. I need to start buying the stinger more. It does seem pretty solid. Had a lot of fun earlier. Def Deathmatch has issues, but I think TDM and everything else def aren't terribly pay to win (outside of the advantage you get, I think the cp items do really help with balance.). Still a lotta fun. Need to get my FPS skills back nd learn how these mechanics work

Yeah, had my first game of DM today (I think with you). Not sure how I feel about DM, but I love me some KC.
Mechanics wise I need to break myself of ironsighting at close range. I just need to fire from the hip more.
Ok guys, so I downloaded this game after seeing a couple of my PA steam friends playing, is there something I have to do to play with you guys? I just played a couple of random matches and I think I would enjoy myself more I'm killed by classy gentlemen instead of random internet guys.
I edit my posts a lot.

The hot pink metallic paint job on my gun pays for itself everytime someone grabs it off my corpse.

Yeah, DM isn't my favorite mode either. But my knife hand got a good work out in those matches. I think I've decided that the throwing knives are my go-to close quarters weapon when I'm using my sniper rifle.
They do enough damage to kill in one or two swings when used as a melee, and about the same when thrown. They just seem easier to get off a quick shot with than the revolver, and in a pinch they can slash just a well as the combat knife.

No, there's a heal pack that heals people. It can heal you or other people. The revival needle is other player only.

So I have a question: does this game still require you to play for obscene amounts of time to unlock something forever?
Because when I played this a few months ago it was all "oh yay you got like two hundred credits for playing this deathmatch, unlocking the revival ability for longer than one day costs TEN THOUSAND CREDITS"

Lobbies full of lvl 1 "Player" all over the place. If anyone wants to add me my agent name is JZPA.

you on us?
Where do I look to find out? :bz
*edit* I am le dumb. Didn't see the drop down on the login screen. Ah well, only got my dude to lvl 3 anyway. Will remake JZPA now.
On the login screen. Below your username/password will be a dropdown box to pick US/Aus or EU.

I can rent pre-made guns for months for the cost of permanently buying all the parts to build my own.
this is what i think i'm going to wind up doing, unless they reduce the cost of GP purchases
i got the pre-made SMG in the starter pack, and the pre-made burstfire is pretty close to what i currently use
i'll probably just dedicate all my points into keeping and unlocking new tactical gear and armor
