i moved out to my family's cabin for the summer and there's only one isp out here and it's hilariously terrible. i'll be back in town august 25th
target combos are just normals that cancel into each other i think..as far as i know you can special cancel any move in a target combo that is normally special cancellable on its own?

usually i would do ABCD for XYBA like blazblue
but then i tech throws with buttons B + A which is fucked, dragon punch by pressing Y + A which is impossible, etc

So like the motion would be (quarter circle forward + normal, quarter circle (ending on up-forward) +3p/3k? And I could do that after her lk>mk TC? So like lk, QC+mk, QC (up forward)+3k? Is that how that would work?

yes except that for ibuki that first qc + mk will come out as her command dash s you have to do lk, mk, qcfqcf up forward 3k

probably not very much, to be honest
without having your fundamentals airtight, the only thing a guy like valle is going to tell you to do is "practice your fundamentals" and gary & co. can tell you that for free!
fighting games 101 - figure out what all your buttons do and how best to apply them, then worry about the high-level mindgamey shit you see from the pros
Here is an extra simple checklist of things to focus on when examining a replay
a) did i throw out anything ridiculously unsafe?
b) did i fail to anti air a jumpin?
c) did i leave any openings unpunished?
d) did i use a less than optimal punish (ie punish with throw or highly scaled hitconfirm combo)
e) did i waste any advantaged situations by mashing jab/short and praying for a hit, or did i attempt a mixup or setup for a mixup
f) did i unnecessarily give up ground or walk myself to the corner
g) was i taken apart by a mixup i don't know how to defend

well the "every ___ is cancellable" is true for feng shui engine and that feels like a target combo machine, so that's where i went wrong
