[Presidential Election 2012] Batmitt vs. Bain: Whitefall

Uh.. RI has 1+ million people, and Providence can be considered a major northeastern city. That's kind of a dumb attempt at a joke. It has more people than states like montana, the dakotas, and wyoming which have substantially larger territory.
Also Williard Moneybags Romney getting booed by the NAACP after saying he'll repeal Obamacare was another great foot-in-mouth moment. I laughed out loud listening to that on the radio today.
Yet it wouldn't even make the top ten list for Most Populous Cities in the US.
Interesting analysis here.
Rhode Island, the Montana of the North East minus all the big sky.
they're so tiny
Woo Colonial/Religious politics!
and by exactly the same I meant not even fucking close

Rhode Island is a weird one. It's actually our second-highest populated state in terms of density, but it's so small it barely matters. There are individual counties in states in the Southwest that are bigger than Rhode Island.
Another weird thing is Vermont. Right up there in New England with all the other high-density states, yet no one lives there. It has less density than Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, or Kentucky.
Because it's really fucking cold.

Also doesn't have area bordering the atlantic coast like the rest of new england, new york, new jersey etc. so it didn't have the historically densely populated ports that people flocked to while moving to the US.
I mean yeah I guess if you wanna get all historical and factual about it

*facepalm* Stop doing stupid shit Democrats.
I've never heard this one before, but if it was while his dad was governor, it's in Michigan. And we've got a bit of a history of letting that shit slide. Mayor Stanley got caught in a borrowed cop car with enough weed in his trunk to get high forever, and has moved up to higher office (this is the guy who set race relations in the state back thirty years, by warning white people about crossing the river if he didn't get his way). His successor upped the ante and stole a uniform, too, and started issuing tickets.
Which the fucking courts upheld. Because if you can't trust the word of a mayor playing policeman, who CAN you trust?
Fun fact: Vermont technically saw action during the US civil war against the confederates albeit in what was a single, incredibly botched, raid (basically a bank robbery). Small group of confederates snuck up into canada, and tried to attack an area of Vermont near the border in an attempt to force the union to divert attention to the north as well as the south. It failed spectacularly of course.
History.
I can just hear Yakkity Sax playing while you explain this brilliant plan.
As explained above, the law really isn't that bad. It's actually a pretty worthless law, since you can just go ahead and vote anyway even if you don't have an ID.

There are big chunks of interior Maine that are uninhabited.
Providence on the other hand is part of the Boston Combined Statistical area, which is the 5th biggest (NY LA Chi DC)

Isn't like 98% of Maine uninhabited? Or some ridiculous number like that, anyway.

Did I read it wrong, or is that only true until 2014 when picture IDs become a requirement?
EDIT: Actually, after re-reading what Burtle posted, it seems I may have misread it. I think it's saying that in 2014 picture IDs will be required to vote at a polling station. I guess the provisional ballots will still be available without them, though? that I failed to read the last sentence both times I read it.
Our producers this week have been Unsa Portedpinyon and Dr. Posten Run.
Also, "Hey, some other guys did it, too," is fallacious retort to accountability.
"Both sides," indeed.
I'll vote for whichever side promises to abolish the state of Maine
Yeah, I can be behind this voter ID law 100%.
Should people have voter ID's to vote? Yes, yes they should.
Should anyone be turned away at the polls because they do not have, as of yet, a voter ID although they are eligable for one? No, no they shouldn't.
Should the state provide ID's that meet their voter ID standard for free to anyone who is eligable? Yes, yes they should.
From a 'liberal' standpoint there are absolutely no problems with THIS voter ID law because it fulfills the latter two requirements for a fair law. The ones in other states do not, which is why this one is fair, and the others are a massive attack on the ability of people to vote. Those that require an ID which costs money for example, effectively are a bar on anyone who can't afford that money voting. Most also come into effect and turn voters away much too quickly, and allow IDs possessed by old people and rural folk to be used while not accepting those which are possessed by most young people.
If they aren't turning anyone away, then it is not the same as laws being crafted specifically to make it so certain people cannot vote or are less likely to vote for no legitimate reason. (note: wanting "your team" to 'win' and hoping to turn away or discourage "the other team" is not a legitimate reason)
Basically a social security card but with more useful info. Providing people with photo IDs (once again, for free, by mail would be best) and wanting them to use them isn't a bad thing. It's more about how fast you implement them and how well you cover everyone.
Not to mention if the goal is to eventually have single payer, the ability to easily identify people would be a huge time saver.

They tried that a few years ago and everyone flipped out, I think

Who could seriously write Sarah Palin won a debate and not die of a brain aneurysm?
While I'm sure someone did it, I don't recall it myself.
I do recall her being given credit for presenting herself above the set expectations at the time.
However, the bar for those expectations was so low she really just had to show up awake and not set any pets on fire while on stage for that to come true.

Thank you for making it so I didn't have to look up that ... thing he wrote again.
:^:
That doesn't mean it still isn't a stupid thing for Democrats to do because it allows people like spool to play the False Equivalency card and think he made a point.
I have to say what I miss the most about Olbermann is how he made fun of rich lowry after the palin comments. Yeah everything else about him was awful, but his schtick on lowry was hilarious.

Pretty much this. I remember the media taking Biden to task during their debate because it looked like "he was verbally beating up on some defenseless girl."
Because that's a descriptor you want in an elected executive: "defenseless girl."
Hey, what'd Maine every do to you? I mean, sure the northern part is basically the Deep South meets Deliverance, but what do you expect when they're so close to Canada. Not the good parts either, I'm talking about French Canada.
