I liked the Hellcat mini, but not the Marvel Comics Presents story

I will give her JiM a shot

Kathryn Immonen, pass. It just feels like kid Loki's story hasn't been fully finished yet, and if you wanted to move on to someone else, You got three other bros who could do with taking over the spotlight for a bit. Sometimes you just don't have to shake it up. The CBR interview doesn't have anything in it that makes this sound any different than say, Captain Marvel.

Schiti is a great up and coming artist though, that's nice to see him get some bigger visibility.

Dang, Marvel really took the criticism of having no female-led titles to heart, didn't they?

So counting Captain Marvel, Red She-Hulk, Dazzler, and now Sif, that's four books with a female lead. Not to mention the 3:1 female to male ratio on FF.

    I don't think X-treme X-Men counts

Legacy didn't count even though that book was mostly about Rogue for the last 4 years

I'm really, really glad that Marvel did not go the predictable route of JiM:Warriors Three. Good for them for taking a chance.

    What

    why wouldn't X-Treme X-Men count

Dazzler is the main character and Pak has said she is the focus and viewpoint of the series

But Kid Loki is still around and almost certainly going to be in a book written by Keiron Gillen

    so

his story isn't done, but it is being told in a different title

no reason a series starring Sif is any better or worse than the Warriors Three, and I say this as someone who fucking loves The Warriors Three

    CYpGAPn.png

Kid Loki's story will still be told.

It'll just be in that Warriors Three/Young Avengers/Whatever It'll Be Called book, which was on the cover of the Point One issue.

    and hopefully Gillen writes that.

I did but it doesn't make any sense either

Legacy totally counted, anyone who didn't think it did is pretty dumb

just because the title of the comic isn't ROGUE or DAZZLER doesn't mean it isn't a book starring a female lead

    CYpGAPn.png
  • BalefuegoBalefuego Registered User regular
I am just going by the fact that when everyone was slamming Marvel for canceling all it's female solo titles, no one mentioned Legacy as a counterpoint that I recall.

  • TexiKenTexiKen Dammit! That fish really got me!Registered User regular
The Legacy run with Rogue thing is a good point, it seemed to be brushed aside when all that talk about X-23 getting cancelled was making the rounds, which no doubt led to the Captain Marvel series.

He is like 99% certain to be writing it

he has said he has another Marvel Now book that hasn't been announced and he is on the creative team for Point One which we now know is

Guardians of the Galaxy - Bendis
    Nova - Loeb
    Ant-Man - Fraction and Allred

and then Cable, the Teen Heroes and presumably a frame story starring Nick Fury Jr.

now it could be a huge shock and Dennis Hopeless is writing Kid Loki's book(which would be fine because he KILLED IT on X-Men: Season One and can write the hell out of teens) but it is almost certain he is on Loki's book

“We talked at length about what this story could be and what her story could be, and it all came down to...one single question: what does she want? I think Sif, above all, wants to be a better warrior,” Immonen said, joking, “She makes a lot of good decisions and things turn out perfectly!”

Immonen then reluctantly admitted readers will see some familiar faces popping up but said that the idea was to take characters from all over the annals of Asgardian history. “Familiar faces, but nobody I think you would expect,” Immonen said.

Turning it over to press questions, Immonen described her take on Sif as a warrior who is trying to be something more.

“I don’t think that she’s just a warrior...we’ve often seen her leading the charge but we haven’t seen her in charge,” Immonen said. Laughing, she continued, “It’s kind of like my dog! My dog is a very committed hound dog! He’s very committed to his path, but when he goes he assumes you’re right behind him...She just leaps and she never looks back, she just assumes they’re as committed to the cause as she is.”

“The other thing I find interesting...I see a similarity with her and Loki because neither of them can ever be Thor, and I think that would have more effect on her than anything else,” Immonen added.

Sankovich then said the new artist on the series is young Italian artist Valerio Schiti, adding that “He draws great beasties...he’s making a splash at Marvel.”

Immonen then told reporters she wasn’t drawing directly on past Thor stories for her run. “Sif has been an important but ancillary character and I think there’s a lot of her that has yet to be explored,” Immonen said.

Sif gets an Asgardian velociraptor named Golden Apple.

    The velociraptor is then killed.

Sif being compared to an enthusiastic dog is odd.

I think I get what they're going for but it's just so weird of an analogy

In trying to count how many of the new titles I was excited for, it occurs to me that so far, it's easier to count the titles I'm NOT excited for. Which is maybe three.

I am feeling strangely optimistic that Marvel is doing the right thing here.

    Poor Rachel.

I am seriously interested in the interactions between The Beasts though. Hank would have a vested interest in trying to undo his situation but he also knows better than to try.

I want to see the Icemen interact, with younger Bobby going "Holy crap how did you do that?" a lot.

Then a telepath can take over one of the Bobby's and really show off.

Are the original X-Men going to end up being students at the Jean Grey Academy? Awkward. Which is worse - having yourself for a high school teacher at school named after you or having your future daughter telling you whats what?

So the November solicits are out and Avengers Academy #39 is being billed as the series finale.

I hope that just means it's getting a NOW relaunch in December and not going away for good.

Yeah so we've got final issues of Avengers, Avengers Academy, and Defenders this month.

Also that Dark Avengers solicit insinuated some major changes next month (maybe a NOW restart? seems kind of quick after the last one though.)

    edit:

about the Xavier stuff. Wasnt there already pages of him at the JG School in post-AvX issues of W&tXM?

Holy shit the last Daniel Way Deadpool volume has 14 issues. Quite frankly I'm shocked they didn't split that to 3 since most of the recent volumes only contained like 4 issues.

From browing that interview, i find it hard to say that the sif book is part of a political statement about women (at least positively). The writeup sounds almost like a bad high school drama....girl wants to be cooler, hangs with wrong crowd, makes bad decisions... and I'm a huge Thor Fan. Will give it a chance but the interview sounds odd.
