Did an update on the OP with info from the solicits.

I gotta say, I like the new X-Men logo style they appear to be using over the line now (both All-New and Legacy are using it, so I expect the others will soon as well). Kind of a cool retro style to it.

I haven't been a big fan of the handful of Deconnick books I've read so far... but Science Bros sounds pretty fantastic. Hopefully the missing science bro is Reed Richards.

  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular
    Yeah

    I really like the solicit

but DeConnick's actual work has disappointed me thus far and the book is still 3.99, that coupled with a shit ton of double shipping means I am taking a pass on it for sure

So what do we think Bendis is doing with Doctor Voodoo in his final New Avengers arc here?

Something that's going to reset the status quo to where it was before New Avengers, I'm guessing. The Eye of Agamotto will be back and Strange will be Sorcerer Supreme again.

  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular
I doubt Strange'll be Sorceror Supreme again

they have said one of their goals for him is to get a rulebook for the laws of Magic and make sure he doesn't become a Deus Ex Machina again

having him jump up along the power scale would kind of totally go against that

I think it is far more likely Iron Fist becomes the new Sorceror Supreme

Ya, unless Marvel Studios does something along the lines of making a Doctor Strange film, then I'm pretty sure you're right.

Dr. Strange looks like he's being a ninja there, almost like Deodato drew someone else instead (a reused Iron Fist pose?). Strange should never look like he's on P90Hex.

I've remarked on my love for Remender and Palo's rendition of Dr. Doom, many a time.

Funny, I was thinking that Strange's outfit looks very reminiscent of the GotG uniforms - especially in that light. Thought he was Adam Warlock/The Magus for a second there.

Also, is new GotG a thing? I know they showed up in Avengers Assemble with a bunch of members that should be dead/not in this universe, I figured it was a time travel or OOC thingy.

I read it, and agree with Munch about Doom being fantastic in it. Unfortunately, Brother Voodoo was not nearly as cool or well written - which is kind of problem since it was his book.

The full A Plus X poster:

    a-plus-x_02.jpg

basically all of Wolverine's X-Men save for two, Storm and Hope (Betsy is halfsies at best because of X-Force, same with Hope after what's been going on)

  • HenslerHensler Registered User regular
That's an itty-bitty Mockingbird. And even Deathbird seems more like she belongs in that group of heroes than god damn Northstar does. Yes, Marvel, you have a gay superhero, we get it.

Yeah, my standard refrain when that book was being published was that, had it been Doctor Doom: Sorcerer Supreme, with the same creative team, it would have sold exponentially better.

And it seemed like Remender really wanted to be writing Dr. Doom anyways.

I like how Doop is right up there in the middle looking like he is adopting a fighting stance of some sort

  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular

Northstar to team-up with Hulkling and Wiccan one issue, written by Alan Heinberg.

I wish there was more surprises like Doop on the cover. Venom or Gorilla Man or even Gravity.

  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular
I don't think it is the actual Marvel NOW Avengers line-up though

and it certainly isn't indicitative of the team-ups that will occur since issue one has Iceman, Spidey, Doop, Warbird and Iron Man and none of them are in that issue.

  • TexiKenTexiKen Dammit! That fish really got me!Registered User regular
Oh I know it's more a general thing, but where the Marvel NOW teaser works well by making you think about the new possibilities, here it's more like "oh hey, the New and regular Avengers and Wolverine's team."

  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular
Well the whole book is about Avengers teaming up with X-Men

    so

it makes sense that it would be actual Avengers on the cover.

Gravity and Gorilla Man are awesome but they ain't Avengers.

Venom would be totally valid though.

    Oh Plastic Man, you craaaaazy.

And I also read Remenders Voodoo mini and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm just hoping they actually make Voodoo sorcerer supreme again. Maybe he has to stop his revenge-mad ghost brother from killing all the New Avengers, needs the Eye to do it? It's a long shot, but I can hope.

    That's Strange's Defenders outfit.

And a new GotG series has not been announced/confirmed yet but it's pretty much assumed that it's going to happen.

You know, you have to ask yourself why any long term female JLA member familier with Plastic Man's....lebido...would continue to wear any costume that has that exact color scheme... (Looking at Wonder woman's top).

couple of interesting new tidbits from Tom Brevoort's Formspring
A shame to see Avengers Academy go. it feels like the last old school style Marvel book. Any chance of other books that may explore a larger variety of characters other than the usual suspects which seem to appear in every bloody title.

The reports on AVENGERS ACADEMY ending don't quite tell the full story. After all, AVENGERS and FANTASTIC FOUR and CAPTAIN AMERICA are ending as well...
Nova was featured Point One, AvX #1, and the first Infinite Comic, but has been completely absent from the rest of the event. Am I missing something? I wasn't expecting him to be a lead (not A/X), but it seemed like a lot of build-up for just one scene.

    Story's not done yet.

and something I thought was interesting from Kieron Gillen's Formspring
Ive always wondered, when I comes to being the writer for a specific comic, is it a matter of being assigned to it by the higher ups, or do you guys campaign/request to write it?

    Annoying answer, but it depends.

In the case of Marvel NOW, Axel got on the phone and gave a list of six or seven books he thought I may be interested in - in fact, he said "If there's anything else you're hungry for, say so, etc". He did actually stress a few of them, in terms of ones he'd think would be especially good, and one of them *was* Iron Man.

That said, there's also curveballs. My other, unannounced Marvel NOW book was one which Axel pretty much dared me with.

Is it just me, or does Romita's work look a lot better in black and white, than in color?

Something about the Romita/Dean White fusion just doesn't work for me. I think his stuff tends to look better with a simpler, flatter style of coloring.
