I run an engineer variant of that build. I don't have all the high end equipment, but it doesn't matter.

That build is pretty beastly in terms of PvE. My shields are always up, and broadside beams with EPtW "always on" just melts faces. I love it. It almost makes PvE too easy.

cool. I'll probably play with that a bit when i get home. i asked in zone chat last night and responses ranged from "don't use the mirror universe cruiser" to "use an escort tac noob" to "you should die."

    Oh internet, never change. <3

I'm in the "free" Odyssey cruiser, but I also used it to good effect on my Sovereign when I had that. The key is having your captain skills set to support the skills used by your bridge officers, and keeping Emergency Power to X running all the time. Anything that can be used to boost your weapon/shield energy levels during a firefight just makes it that much more effective. I'm also using phaser beams rather than what was listed in the build, just make sure that whatever damage type you choose, you also use the appropriate equipment to boost its damage.

My equipment isn't really even that great. Mostly stuff I've picked up as end-of-mission rewards. I haven't done enough STF to get that sort of gear yet.

Like I said though, it doesn't matter. It just steamrolls the PvE stuff which is how I spend my time right now anyway, and it does great on the few normal STF's that I have done. All you have to pay attention to is your EPtW & EPtS to make sure you're ready to activate the next one as soon as the cooldown ends. You keep that cycle going, and as long as you do that, all you have to focus on is "which target do I vaporize next".

I tried to get back into playing this game recently but it seems that my character is missing. Someone told me to relog after a while but that didn't work. I tried contacting support but didn't get anywhere. But I'm not too hung over about it. I actually enjoyed leveling in this game because it was fairly short. I think I'm just going to miss my ships and gobbo race I made the most. This time I wont stick just cannons on the ship and spray and pray, then ramming speed into everything. Even though it was incredibly awesome.

If you're on a cruiser, you can get 125 power to both weapon and shields using your boffs. Have EPTW and EPTS 3 & 2 or something like that. You create a loop, you pop the EPTW and it causes a 15s cool down on all the other emergency power to X powers. When the EPTS is up, you pop that, then weapons, then shields, over and over again. This gives you around 5-10s of 125power in both weapons and shields.

I only use cannons in 2 ships: My excelsior refit and Galaxy-X. The excelsior has a decent turning rate so I can put 4x fore cannons and 4x aft turrets on a target. My Tac Boff is then setup to have Tac Team 1, C: Rapid Fire 1 & 2, then one of my Eng Boffs has Directed Energy Modulation 2 and 1. I pop tac team, a rapid fire, then a DEM. When one of the rapid fires comes off cool down, I use the next one. So there is really only 5 seconds where rapid fire is not up and running, and 1 min where DEM isn't up. Using Nadion Inversion and emergency power abilities, my weapon power stays up around 125.

Even though the Galaxy-X can use Dual Heavy's, I'll only use single cannons: The turn rate is horrible on a galaxy-x, so unless I'm doing an STF where the mobs stay still (tractor beam helps with this), very rarely will the DHC's be in the arc to fire, whereas single cannons are almost always firing.

My Excelsior & Galaxy-X builds are something like:
(Fore) 4x XII Phaser cannons (crit, damage)
(Aft) 4x XII Phaser turrets (crit, damage)
    Maco XI Deflector
    Jem'Hadar Engine (for a +5 weapon power)
    Maco XII Shield
the one device you get from the time travelling episodes (I forget the name): the one that gives a small bonus to damage resistance against everything but proton
Engineer Consoles: 1 Shield power+ XI, Borg console, and a Kinetic + disruptor damage resistance armor XI, 1 EPS XI
    Science: 1 shield amount+ XI, 1 shield recharge+ XI
    Tac: 3x Phaser damage+ XI

    Tac Boff: TT1, C:RF1, C:RF2
Eng Boff: EPTS 1, DEM 1, rotate shield freq 2, AISF 3
Eng Boff: EPTW 1, the one power that draws from auxiliary battery to give increase power to weapons, shields and engines, DEM 2
    Eng Boff: EngTeam
    Science: Polarize Hull, Transfer Shield

Only, with the Galaxy-X, I have to change a few of things around or change my boff setups.

Once again, this thread provides awesome info, so thanks!

One question I have about shields: I run all science ships for one character, and despite the 1.3 shield modifier I find that they don't last very long. I'm not expecting to tank, but I'd love to not have to mash the Ablative Armor button and run after each engagement. Right now I'm running a retro-Intrepid half-assed torpedo setup to throw all my power to Aux, but eventually I want to use the fleet Nova, so how do I figure out reliable shields for science ships?

Are you running covariants? Covariants and emergency power to shields is the most reliable way to keep your shields up, and tactical team can convert safe shield facings into extra healing for the one taking fire. Transfer Shield Strength is the bread and butter to cover anything that won't.

Resilients can be good, too, especially some of the good set ones (MACO are some of the best shields in the game - back when endgame was all Borg all the time they were solidly the best).

For the most part, stay away from regenerative shields. They go down in a couple hits, and the getting more back in that first regen tick after three seconds isn't a lot of consolation when your hull gets cut in half before then (and sci ships have weak hulls). They're kind of nice on cruisers which can soak most of their damage on the hull, so the extra regen helps. But if you're actually keeping your shields up, it's easy to make up for regen, but hard to make up for capacity.

    Since you bring up shields,

I have reman VIIIs from when I originally went through that mission. they seem to be better than the blue rarity Xs I saw as my last mission rewards.

what should I replace them with? my crafting sucks unless someone wants to make me an aegis. and I haven't been that lucky with the stf that drops the shield tech.

maybe just rerun the mission for level appropriate remans now that i'm a vice admiral?

You can rerun the mission, but if you want them faster, the mission Skirmish in the Klingon front is faster, and gives an identical non-set shield - covariant [cap]x2.

I'm using Omega at the moment, and running a shield regen setup from hell:

    tac team 1
    EPtS1
    EPtS2
    Transfer Shield Strength

It's pretty much invulnerable to idle incoming fire (like, I can typically escape mass aggro in Starbase Defense without dying). Maco + 3 borg may be a bit more survivable, but I've been running 2 Omega + 2 Borg for the shield damage passive. My damage output is pretty sad in STFs, but it's a pretty awesome support build.

Any experienced Carrier captains know what's a good power-setting for the Atrox? I'm running a full MACO set on it at the moment if that helps.

Thanks hevach and kildy! I have access to and will try out the 2x Omega Force/2x Borg combo, and I will make sure I have those boff abilities. I'm assuming that any ship that's not a cruiser will need some micromanagement, but I'm fine with that.

I'm also looking at the Fleet Nebula as a long-term goal, since I can put a 2nd Eng boff at the universal station. I'll work on converting the Intrepid to an STF ship.

For the Atrox, I run around 25/50/25/100 or so. Your aux is your survival. I'll swap to 100/25/25/50 if I'm sure nothing is going to look my way for a bit, but for the most part my beam atrox isn't going to kill anything with it's actual weapons. I've been running a flight of stalkers and a flight of *anything with actual torps* because I'm convinced my stalkers can't hurt hull to save their lives.

Am I the only one who likes Reverse Shield Polarity on a beam cruiser? In one on one when I'm broadsiding they are only hitting one of my faces and I can quickly bring it back up, and if I'm surrounded and getting slowly whittled down its a nice thing to toss in to bring everything back up since its on a diffrent cool down.

RSP is awesome. I always run 2 copies on my commander engineers. (EPtS, RSP, Aux2Struct, RSP)

Tactical team to convert all sides into one, and then popping RSP and spamming equalize shield facings, and then popping a second tactical team when the first runs out is a nice way of essentially dumping 2 entire shield capacities.

Anyone know the best way to farm Dilithium? So far I've been running the Explore New Worlds, Explore B'Tan Cluster, and the 4 Defera dailys against the Breen. Its a chunk less than the daily limit for dilithium refining though, so I'm not sure what else to add in there. I've heard you can run the player crafted missions, but the one I did was fairly long and it seems I would need to run 3 to see a reward.

The trick to the foundry easy dilithium is to switch the search type to hot and take 3 quicky missions listed for your faction. They usually involve scanning a panel on ESD or Qo'nos and when you have 3 that hit the same panel they all complete simultaneously.

I think I'd like RSP, if I had managed to find a single BOff with the associated skill. On the other hand, I seem to be getting away with EPTS1/EPTW1/EPTS3/EPTS3. Mind you, switcing one of those out for something with a different cooldown *would* be nice.

For those curious about scoring Dil on the KDF-side, there's the Empire Defense missions in where you just go into a nebula on the Klingon's home sector and fight groups of either Feds, Romulans, Cardassians or Borg in three separate maps depending on which nebula you go into. Basically they're the KDF version of Explore (mini-sector name here) but you get 1440 Dil for each one you do. The only problem is that at the very least the areas where you fight Romulans and Cardassians now have that same white 'blob' that's popping up in the Mirror-Verse Incursion map, bogging your computer down no matter how good it is. And there's TWO of them, right where you warp into the map where there's typically a group of small enemy craft waiting.

I believe there's also a mission that grants Dil for achieving optional objectives in the marauding missions at the Pi Canis Sector but it's difficult to do without help.

Well, I can't as a character. I need to take a look at the BOff trainers in more depth, now that I have a little free time, and see what I'd lose out on.

Take a look on the exchange before you go to the trainer. You can often find blue or purple doffs with the rank 3 skill you want for cheaper than the training cost. The only ones you won't be able to find are the player class specific trainable ranks.

I know I lucked out pretty much here seeing as I tossed in a common ESH with the rest of the DOs but I'm still pretty buzzed over the big bonus I got along with the Very Rare Flight Deck Officer that came along with the win. :) I'm still wondering what I oughta do with my Carrier's settings though. Maybe I'll just have to break down and get the Borg Deflector and Engine and later the Console to do that MACO/3Borg mix that seems to be popular. Wish there was a more dedicated space-set for Sci-Officers.

Is there a strategy to get higher quality DOs (i.e. recycle only ones with certain traits, or something)? I have a bunch of Commons, but I'm wary of just tossing them up for reassignment "because I might totally need them later".

Stubborn and Unruly are good traits to throw away - they're more frequently negative than positive. Medical and science with unscrupulous are usually less desirable, and medical with aggressive are only beneficial on one assignment, and since it's a 5 doff assignment you can pack it pretty good even without aggressive.

There's no way to weight the reassignment to give you what you want, but generally unless you're donating to the starbase you can afford to just reassign any commons. Higher quality does a few things: Inherently raises success/critical success (usually more than you'd get from one positive trait), raises numeric rewards (5% per uncommon, 10% per rare, 20% per very/ultra rare), and uncommon up are protected from death in high risk missions. Common doffs can either go to sickbay or die if injured, but uncommon and higher can only go to sickbay.

I throw any commons I get into reassignment right away to just get uncommons. When I start filling up on them, I use reassignment to trim down the larger departments (excess civilians in particular) for rares.

Then there's some was for guaranteed or at least likely good doffs: Most doff chains give a blue or purple at the end, particularly the colonization chain in each exploration cluster - it gives a blue and then a repeatable that gives refugees on success and a purple version of the blue on critical. Refugees are then good for getting higher quality doffs through asylum assignments. If you can catch a prisoner exchange and have a prisoner on hand, that's basically the same. There's a very rare espionage mission called Instigate Defection that usually gives a blue or purple, but at worst gives a green. And C-store doff packs have guaranteed quality levels - one blue or better, two green or better, two white or better.

That will happen if the doff is bound to you as well, check to see if it has a little lock icon listed with their traits.

Personnel officer in the building by the water. Talk to them and they have a "Reassign underperforming officers" option, which has a few assignments in it that take 5 seconds and basically trade 5 doffs of one quality for 1 of the next quality up.

*sigh* I feel I am doing something wrong. When I was in the Heavy Cruiser I would find the "missions" I was taking to be a nice level of difficulty , and I seemed to do OK in any random fleet actions I went into. Now I have moved onto the Exploration Cruiser the missions are becoming a cakewalk but I blow up every 5 seconds in any fleet action I try to do :(

Have I just hit a stage where the Exploration Cruiser sucks and I need to just grind out to Admiral and get the Soverign? Or should I just be avoiding fleet stuff until I hit 50?

As a bonus question, I have no idea what to do with my HUD. Can any of you guys throw some screenshots of yours up so I can get some ideas of a nice arrangement (1366 x 768 so space is limited)

And the super special star prize question - how the hell do you get a good number of doffs? I have ~36, but with the prices on the exchange I could maybe buy one or two decent ones.

ha ha, why didn't I think of that? thanks for the suggestion, I'll try that tonight when I get home. should have a handful of Research Lab Scientists to contribute.

BTW - I noticed we're still waiting on the purple Quartermaster doff; they're going for 3-4 million EC on the exchange, which is out of my price range, but I'm willing to donate 1m to the fleet bank to fund it. i think this doff is the last thing required for this mission to begin.

The galaxy is one of the weaker ships and continues to suffer compared to its peers throughout the endgame. I'd say just push to 50 so you can put together some set gear and buy a set of mkXI greens to begin running stfs.

As for doffs make sure you are always picking up the recruitment missions from the personnel officer at SFA. Once you get to about 60-70 start tossing them into the combiner and work your way up.

Cool, I will push through on the missions and patrols then to level 50 then (picking up the soverign on the way). At 50 I will probably look at getting one of the fleet retrofits (providing the fleet can support it).

I only dicovered the doff recruitment missions after you mentioned them... oops. How many do they recruit each time? If it is only 1 then I can see it taking a while to build up still.

The Personnel Officer has several recruitment missions you can run simultaneously: a General mission which gives a regular doff pack, and specialist Cadres that give 2-3 doffs of a particular department.

Then there are the nearby cultural contacts: an Andorian and a Tellarite behind the building with the Personnel Officer that give single-doff Tactical and Science recruiting missions, and on the opposite side of the map there's an Engineering Vulcan cultural contact.

Anyone got any tips for the UI / HUD?
