I wonder if they are trying to make it worth it outside of a marion to use beam weapons with cannons?

Probably only for a Defiant or Kumari where you have tactical boff space to spare. It's really tight on my Armitage to handle an old style DBB/2DHC/torp build without aux2batt making the cooldowns manageable. If it didn't look way more badass than straight cannons I wouldn't be doing it anymore.

I could imagine it might work for a patrol escort refit as well. Though I do like my current cannon + torps, don't know if I'd want want to swap in a beam overload outside of dualies looking sweet.

I think if you don't also have torps you could probably manage a DBB on most escorts. It's just having torpedoes on top of it you'll be out of power slots with anything but a Defiant or Andorian escort.

  • Options
    PreacherPreacher Registered User regular
Yeah, I just like the versatility of torps too much. Plus you know star trek, got to have torpedos.

I do have to say between the mogh/avengers multi purpose warhead, and the nadon bomb, the Nadon is by far and away my favorite attack.

    STLV livestream stuff, expansion spoilers:
    Title Delta Rising
    Release date in October
Level cap to 60 with campaign content
Specialization trees for high level progression (unclear exactly what this is)

There will be tier 6 ships, but they won't fully replace tier 5 ships. "There will be a way to make them better"
There will be a 4th class of bridge officer (apparently not captain, however), as well as a fourth class of ship based on it in addition to cruiser/science/escort.

Mk XIII and XIV gear, and a new system to increase the Mk level on gear (note: thanks to a bug, if you type /upgradeitem in game you can see a broken version of this already in game. Heavily resembles the crafting system, and appears to run off "feeding" items to other items to gain TP).

    Revamped exploration system

Many new enemy factions: Based on previous leaks, this includes Vaadwaur, Malon, Kazon, Hazari, Hierarchy, Automated Personnel Units, and returns of Borg, Voth, Undine, and Hirogen. According to STLV information, Talaxians and Ocampa appear as allies.

    Voyager interior, with optional kitchen

Tim Russ returning for more voice work, plus "several other" Voyager actors including Garret Wang as Captain Harry Kim of the USS Rhode Island (already known thanks to Wang being unable to control himself on twitter a few months ago).
    [/quote]
That's pretty much all that was said, but of course the speculation train has completely derailed.

One of my favorite things about STO is that new content has focused on sidegrades rather than upgrades. I hate MMOs where the endgame is 'grind tier 1 endgame, so you can then grind tier 2 endgame, so you can then grind tier 3 endgame, etc etc'. That said, there's enough tier 5 options now that I think making a tier 6 was probably inevitable.

I'm hoping at some point they fix the support colonization missions. I'd supported the current changes because I thought it meant I could swoop by and do my doffing rounds in half the time, but under the current system there's apparently days now where there's no support missions anywhere in the game, for a full day, for anyone. Refugee prices have spiked. How's a captain supposed to exploit human misery and the destruction of interplanetary warfare like this, I ask you?

  • Options
    HevachHevach Registered User regular
The item upgrade thing and what they're talking about for tier 5 ships sounds like, really, this might end up being just more side-grades.

So because I have more money than sense I wanted a real flag ship for my admiral and I bought the odyssey trio. It's a bit of a whale, but it can tank with the best of them especially as an engy. The abilities are a bit gimmicky, but I love the stat increases. I'm currently running full beam boat anti proton, not the highest dps but again with the threat stance it can let the escorts really open up and in good groups they recognize and do.

The looks while more limited than say the enterpise 3 class, are still awesome, even the chevron seperation which on TNG was always kind of lame looks great.

Yeah I'm glad I'm working my R&D stuff now prior to a possible expansion. That way by the time it drops I'll have hopefully one or two schools at max level so I can upgrade my ship(s).

Plus I instanced the shit out of this weekend so I got a decent amount of supplies and a couple catalysts even.

Expansion 2 shipwank, round 1. FIGHT!
    Remastered Intrepid model:

    New unnamed ships:
    Klingon, very Peg'qu/Mogh looking:
    cCRbG9B.png
Romulan, like a sleeker Dhelan without the weird downturned nose:

    And Starfleet:

Looks good from this angle, maybe a wider, flatter Defiant looking thing?

OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? I mean, I think it's supposed to be like... a heavy cruiser? Some kind of Cheyenne/Stargazer variant?
    And bad guy ships
    Hazari:

Benthan (I don't actually remember these guys from Voyager):

The angular design on the Starfleet ships is interesting, at the very least. The nacelles really stand out from the more traditional sort.

The Starfleet ship looks like it fell straight out of Tron to me. I'm kind of on the fence about it. I'm digging the Romulan ship, though.

The defiantgazer I'd have to see what it looks like in motion. It looks kind of like a jaggy cerberous. I'll stick with my odysessy/fleet escort refit.

The Benthan ship looks kind of cool.

The Tron look I assume is from the veteran hull material based on the plate lines. Could be an Aegis shield or some new glowy hull texture... If it is stock, I think it takes away from the ship a little.

I think the two Starfleet pictures I posted are different ships. Note the different engine trails. Also, the saucer shape doesn't match - the deflector dish isn't visible in the Defiant-looking picture, and the bussard collectors aren't on the saucer in the Stargazer-looking one.

The Benthans could be a really interesting pick for an alien faction. We never actually see them in Voyager - we meet three aliens from Benthos (one shapeshifter and two very different humanoids), but never get confirmation which, if any, are Benthan. They did have coaxial induction warp drives that allowed instantaneous spacefolding within a limited range, which is really similar to the Solanae warp drive, so if anybody in this expansion turns out to be a servitor, it's either them or the Vaadwar.

True I can see the difference. I might pick up the more defiant looking ship if its got good stats. Might, I dunno I already have good federation ships.

The mogh ship the klingons get looks interesting, but it would have to fit more of an escort role than a mogh for me to be interested.

Please give us Talaxians as doffs, along with new doff missions like "Toss chef out airlock for incompetence" to go along with them. Bonus points if the doff's name is close to Neelix.

  • Options
    PreacherPreacher Registered User regular
I'm sure you will get them, and if you can't airlock them even as a federation than this expansion is fail.

You need more then that. "Emergency Warp Core Breach Repair" which requires you to select a DOFF to die. "Terrible Phaser Malfunction During Teatime Food Delivery". "Holodeck Malfunction Accidentally Creates DeSade AI".

"Investigate otherwise unremarkable planet and die to ooze." Only useable for tactical doffs who think they have more value than you believe they do...

"Have Talaxian Chef prepare traditional [random Federation planet] dish"

Takes a Talaxian chef, and 4 any officer. No matter the result, everybody except the chef ends up in sickbay. Disaster=4 days, Failure=2 days, success=1 day, critical success=6 days.

    Why limit it to Vulcans?
Are you suggesting that a Klingon security officer wouldn't like a chance to choke out Neelix? Or any race for that matter? Heck, why limit that mission to security? Medical, Engineering, Command... Everyone should have a chance to choke out the chef. On a critical failure, you need to replace the chef.

All tier 5 ships are supposed to be upgradeable to tier 6 by some process/cost, but the blog post for this promotion says lockbox ships will upgrade for free (but not automatically like when they were bumped up to fleet). So barring the new 4th boff type being completely indespensible, the bugship will probably stay one of the top escorts in the game.

    So you don't think they'll have an upgrade for the bug? ;_;

Not that it needs one, i guess... depending on how these new ships shake out.

No, like I said the bug is getting a free tier 6 upgrade. I just don't know how well it'll hold up, since it probably will have little to no room for the 4th hoff class.

I'll wait to see what that 4th slot really does before I worry about it.

In other news I got to the max rep with the omega faction and their outfit unlock would be right at home as a Rob Liefeld creation when you put all the acessories on.

I should probably upgrade out of the Jem'Haddar ground set with one of the rep ones at some point.

  • Options
    PreacherPreacher Registered User regular
I too have the jem'haddar set, it has a lot of nice features (like the full set's heal is great) and the rifle looks cool. The Omega set isn't bad, you get a stealth and then a team ambush field, and its rifle also doesn't look stupid as fuck. Have you upgraded the set with Lobi crystals?

I have to grind nukara this weekend because I'm an idiot and I want that sword, so I can settle myself in to some boring grindy missions without a cool ship one to cancel them out. Fuck you Nukara FUCK YOU!

I did do the Lobi upgrade. Nukara is annoying but I just did the Crystalline Entity Elite twice a day. It's pretty brain dead and I can usually place 2nd or 3rd so I get a free item too.

  • Options
    PreacherPreacher Registered User regular
Oh does that one have a nukara thing to it? I might do that as well, then I can at least get research items.

Is placing how you get items? That would explain why I usually rock out with items finishing borg missions in my escort. Hell my odyssey manages to do all right out of those, probably for tanking like a boss. I'm actually excited to try my escort with the full borg armor set so I can use the borg tractor beam against those bastards.

Nukara seems to either be too many people and hard to find enemies to kill, or too few people and then dying to those stupid nukara fucks because holy shit it just spawned four of them plus a lieutenant what the fuck?

If you do any of the queue events you get R&D materials. Elite ones have a chance of giving purple ones with different events having a different potential pool of purple mats.

And yeah, the Crystalline Entity gives Nukara marks, and the Azure Nebula Rescue gives a choice between Romulan marks and Nukara ones. All of which are much less ball punchingly awful then doing the Nukara ground missions.

  • Options
    PreacherPreacher Registered User regular
I'll probably just do those then, at least it won't make me swap my armor (whatever fucking idiot came up with that little stupid thing in a game with armor set pieces giving you bonus's is a dick hole, if you are going to do that, let me swap armor on the fly like I can with guns).

And both of those events usually have a short wait time. The Vault: Ensnared generally has a longer wait time but also gives a choice between Romulan marks or Nukara Marks.

For Dyson the ground zone is the best way to go. It's a lot more fun and if you load up on the daily quests you can rack up a 100+ marks at a go pretty easily. Same with the Undine Space Battle in the Sphere.

Yeah I know about the undine and voth ones. though I still do the Undine instance if only because its fast, nets you research stuff and its damn near impossible to fail at.
