Am I silly enough to re-purchase Witcher 2 just so I'll have a copy on Steam?
Also, has the hivemind reached consensus on which of the three games to vote for? I'm leaning L.A. Noire since Alan Wake was just on sale and I can't imagine anyone who's interested doesn't already own Amnesia 2 or 3 times over.
Well, I am faced with a pickle. I can follow the deals, but I probably should not actually purchase them. See, I'm at my father's house visiting for a bit, and after spending a while on this computer I am left with a marked feeling that there are more viruses here than in your average hospital. As you can imagine, this does not make me feel very confident about putting my payment info into anything while in here.
Use a cell phone? An Ipod touch/Ipad? Go to your local library?
I still use one of those old-time phones (you know, the kind that had number keys and stuff and didn't really do anything more than make calls and at most play music), so I'm going to guess it's probably not compatible with the Steam app :P

That was my plan but I was expecting it to be priced lower than that. Not that it isn't worth it, I paid full price on gog.com and even bought a couple more copies at launch for friends. But Steam is Steam y'know?
I was having trouble sleeping, and I was wondering why. Because the game I wanted most got put on sale. Thanks lack of sleep! Now back to bed. Will purchase Witcher 2 when I'm concious and sure this isn't just some sad dream. Right now Steam is crashing a bit much.

Is steam effed up for anyone else. I've been trying to buy L4D2 for like 5 minutes, but I'm getting a blank payment screen.

Just tried buying a 4 pack of L4D2, through a buddies account to have extra copies to gift out and to buy him one and he totally timed out on me.. Apparently it doesnt want me to buy a 4 pack.

I never played Witcher 1, will I be missing out if I start with 2?

The story is worth experiencing, a couple of things from TW1 get directly referenced in TW2 but I suppose you could go straight to TW2 without too much worry. The gameplay for TW1 is especially difficult for some to get into, even though I found it just fine.
I am really really torn on getting Witcher 2 or not.
Played the first, and it kind of fell off for me. But I've heard nothing but praise for 2.
Do eet. Witcher 2 is amazing. The combat has a pretty tough learning curve at first for a lot of people (because it's difficult) but I find it very satisfying.
Witcher 2 is, without a doubt, my favorite PC rpg. It just has so much detail. I've never 'walked' in a game before, but every new area I went in, especially towns, I would actually use walk mode just so I could check out a lot of the details in the area. It's just so dense with stuff.
Really want to jump on The Witcher 2, but I don't have much left and I'm want to see if Gods and Kings or ARMA II Combine Ops get sub $20 during this sale.
Ok. So I just woke up, and had a look at the sale.
Everyone get Sam and Max. Well, everyone who sort of likes adventure games. And maybe the walking dead games. They are fantastic, even if the first two season sort of graphically show their age. But they are still absolutely hilarious, and the 3rd season is one of the best things ever.
All this talk of L4D2 really makes me wish I could convert my stupid Australian version that I bought while abroad to the US version. Steam Customer Support's response was "LOL we'll take it off of your account and then you can repurchase it!".
Now I don't want to play it out of principle, and don't want to buy it again out of principle...
Is the jump from Witcher 1 to Witcher 2 kind of like AssCreed 1 to AssCreed 2, as far as having vastly improved gameplay and plot?
Yes.
Also if you feel like you dont know whats going on, which you really wont be lost if you havent played the first you can find all the info you need on youtube.
It was like choosing between 'water' and 'water' on a menu.
I no has these games.

So I pulled the trigger on Witcher 1 (and Two Worlds II and KOTOR). I figure by the time I get through some of my backlog, and Witcher 1 it will be time for the winter sale, and I'll pick up Witcher 2 then.
Contest Time!
In a moment of weakness I was going to buy the Shining Force games, and instead bought the Sega Genesis Classics Pack 4. To make myself feel better about it, I bought another one. I'm not sure how that works, but I'm giving it to one of you guys.
It contains these games:
Alien Soldier, Gunstar Heroes, Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole, Light Crusader, Shining Force, Shining Force II, Shining in the Darkness, Streets of Rage, Streets of Rage 2, Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair
Here's how to win it. Below are three images cropped from screenshots of games that have been on Sega systems.
PM me with what games they are from. By ohh... Midnight Central time tomorrow (7/14). So that's about 5 hours from now. The winner will be randomly chosen from the correct entries. It shouldn't be too hard, but if no correct entries, I will start giving clues and the first one to PM with the correct answer will get it. You can submit multiple entries, but only the latest one will count.

Can someone tell me what in the hell is up with Payday: The Heist? I've got a gaming laptop with an i7 and a Geforce GTS 360m, which runs L4D2 at 1920x1080 on high without anti-aliasing. Payday, at lowest settings across the board, runs like absolute crap and I just clocked my graphics card at 105 degrees C.
Some days Blue wonders why anyone ever bothered making numbers so small; other days she supposes even infinity needs to start somewhere.

My congratulations to the winners, @UncleSporky , @EvilBadman , and @HiT BiT! This was a remarkably difficult contest to judge and I genuinely wish I had more to give away. Not a single entry was submitted that didn't make me giggle and titter. You're all terrible terrible people, and you all find huge dudes in women's clothing really funny.

I've been meaning to buy that for like a year now.

Stick with it, took me 4 tries also. The Newell is treating us as Job.

Agreed, good sir!
Buy L4D2, play the L4D level remakes.
