I really don't understand what's going on here but let me tell you my experience.
Bought a pack of Camel Lights today. Smoked maybe two or three from 2 PM up till 8:30 or 9. Everything was fine.
Went out to the bar around 10 and smoked a couple more, without really paying attention to the fact that I was smoking, because I was distracted by friends and beer. Maybe 30 minutes later I realized I was coughing with relative frequency, but then I kind of forgot about it.
Then I lit another cigarette and realized it just tasted wrong. It tasted terrible in my throat and lungs, and it was making me cough like crazy. I don't know if cigarettes can go "bad". I'm trying to figure out what was wrong with these.
Anyone have a similar experience they can share while I sit here and cough?
ive had situations where ill smoke a brand for a while then suddenly it will just taste like shit and i cant handle smoking them anymore and i get into this annoying transitional phase where i gotta find a new brand
and then a brand that i had stuck to for a while suddenly wasnt imported anymore and was sold out everywhere, which was real shitty. then i found a store that still had leftover stock so i started getting them from there, but after a few months it seemed like it was all going stale so i stopped getting them
Cigarette packs aren't exactly sealed in any air-tight way, even when in the carton, and even those are just like paper shields that don't really do anything more than you putting a piece of paper around a few packs. So, really, the tobacco is oxidizing at every point, so they can go stale very easily.
Question though, have anything strange in your pocket with your smokes?

You're probably misinterpretating the taste because of something you ate/drank. If you're coughing, you probably are at the onset of a respiratory infection, which the smoking irritates further. I've had the same thing.
Cigarettes tend to have a long shelf-life, unless they're exposed to moisture.

Just a lighter.
Dunno, strange to get half a pack of "good" cigs then the other half be stale or bad. Chalk it up to the store you bought them from not rotating their product properly, or never selling the type of smokes you buy. The busier the store, the more chance they're getting rid of the old smokes and putting fresh stuff up for YOU to buy.

Yeah. Imagine that coughing being about 10x worse, and persistent, even when you haven't smoked in days. Yeah, that's nice...
I sell the stuff and it pretty much makes my paychecks, but I'd rather nobody buy the stuff, than me collect a paycheck. I tell tons of people everyday what that stuff does to their body. It's like the guy with the lung in the bag WORKING at quik-stop.

way to ensure that people will spend their cigarette money someplace else

Well, some people will never care, and I see them every damn day. There are others that respond with the whole, "Well, I always did wanna quit" but just buy them the same as always. I'm sure the ones that I never see again just go down the street, but hey, they DO have cheaper prices anyways, so oh well.

A sub basement, as I said I am an assistant manager in a convenience store. Just hoping that one day interacting with the same people I see every day might change something other than how much gas we sell.
Now, believing that will ever happen, that's another thing. Gotta try though.
People who are anti-smoking and will make a big deal out of someone smoking piss me off.
You're not allowed to smoke in clubs here anymore, which is fucking gay because whenever we're having a beer we have to go sit with the degenerate gambling addicts while my friends have a smoke.

maybe it's cancer
you know
from the smoking
hope it's not though
doubt it
do you smoke a bunch
because sometimes i'll have like four or five smokes in a short amount of time and sometimes the last one just makes me cough and feel like shit
maybe you smoked more cigarrettes than you're used to
Stale, then?
I want my money back
I think I might quit smoking... I don't know if I can risk smoking a stale cigarette ever again.
if it was stale, the whole pack shoulda been gross, not just one in the middle
The others were much earlier today, so I don't really know.

man that was a pain
like any other mass produced good, there is the chance of getting shit product
do they have contact info for if you aren't satisfied with them? you may be able to score some free smokes
Question though, have anything strange in your pocket with your smokes?

But this bar runs out of Camel Lights faster than any other cigarette.
Maybe their supplier gave them some old trash.

but I'd say it's probably just an old pack
bars always do that thing where they put new packs on top of the old packs, so some old packs can sit there for a long time
I stopped buying cigs from bars after a while
(maybe my bars are just shitty)
try quitting

yeah, I know your weak spot now
this is the best idea
I guess I don't cough as much in the mornings
but god damn do I look square as hell

Still has care enough to try and help people. I just see it as a waste of money. Moreso than food. Only things that last forever are worth paying for.

even then i can make exceptions
because nobody has ever heard anything about that and good thing there is a lowly convenience store clerk hassling customers to get the word out
but you can substitute cigarettes for food
not always of course, but if you try you can get down to one meal a day
having smokes for breakfast for a week made me want to kill myself
