Wait? What? Because I posted in this thread Im up to like 15 friends, in a matter of moments which is awesome....but some of my new friends are playing Diablo III, how do I know this? How does anyone know this? Does steam play nice with D3 somehow? Asking because I get lonely sometimes grinding. D3 runs good on my laptop, Saints Row does not.
I have SIXTEEN friends now after 7 years on steam and about (maybe more) equal time here, this is an over 500% increase in 15 minutes. Awesome.
So about this Gamestop/Steam trade-in promotion....do they have a list online that tells you how much you can get for trading in certain games?
I was planning to put up some games on eBay (Arkham City, Brotherhood, etc) that I bought the Steam versions from, as I figured the amount would be around what I paid during the sales. If it turns out I can get a slightly better deal with Gamestop, though...
Basically, Gamestop is offering a free 30% increase in Trade-in-Value for the purchase of the appropriate Steam Wallet Card.
This may be, for the first time in history, you could actually not get totally screwed by trading in games.
For example, Borderlands (360) is worth $8.00 to Gamestop and that 30% increase puts it at $10.40 for the purposes for a Steam Wallet Card. Borderlands: Game of the Year edition was only $7.49 yesterday on the 'Daily Deal' - which may or may not be repeated on the last day of the sale per tradition.
I am in the business of saving lives.

So I see the two little Steam mascot whatsits have named their fort. No sign of their moody black friend today, though. I think he should come back and assault their stronghold with water balloons. In fact, there should be a water fight-themed ARG.
I just had a thought based on what you're saying there... What if there are no summer achievements other than the tree house architect thing because they are going to start regular ARGs once this sale is over? "Building a tree house" for enhanced community features? Put 3 games on sale for the week and have achievements that lead to coupons or something. I figured that the previous sales with achievements-especially for indie games-were a huge boon to sales. I know I bought a few last year that I never would have thought to buy previously. I'm just surprised that this badge thing doesn't seem to be going anywhere...so it seems like we're missing some end game here.

Diablo III can be "added" to Steam as a non-Steam game. You can launch it through Steam then, and the overlay even works with a little finagling. There's no more Steam functionality than that, though.

You can!
I just called Gamestop and did just that. For some reason, the first clerk told me she was only permitted to look up two titles. So, I went to my collection, took a look at what I could easily part with (or replace on Steam with added DLC) and eight stores later I had priced out all 15 games.
Just go to gamestop.com and select 'Find a Store' from the main page. Put in your zipcode and just go down the list and ask each location to look up two titles.
EDIT: Borderlands (no DLC), Star Wars Force Unleashed, Bioshock 1, and Fallout 3 (no DLC) would give me just enough to get Borderlands Game of the Year, Bioshock 1 and 2 from Amazon.com, and Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition.

Bottom-left of your Steam window, there's an "Add Game" button. Click on it and a drop-down menu appears, then choose "add a non-steam game." It's easy!

It's not that hard. Click on "Games" in the Steam client, then "Add a non-Steam game to my library" and pick Diablo III from the list of games/programs it comes up with.
It may take a little tweaking to get it working with the Steam overlay. If you have trouble PM me and I'll see if I can dig up the forum thread where I figured it out again.

Just realized that my last posting of this was literally the last post in the last thread. Whoops.
Think back ye now upon the day
When first your mind perceived
My preview vid on your display
And thus your heart was thieved
For some small time your thoughts were filled
With what I had incited
The mere anticipation thrilled
Each slight regard excited
But when at last the launch date dawned
You lacked sufficient wealth
To purchase that for which you longed
E’en more than life itself
To find me in the next big sale
Was your ideal solution
But months went by to no avail
To your great disillusion
Onto the wishlist I was placed
An act of desperation
And so I linger, once embraced,
Now doomed to isolation
You’re fat and happy as can be
While gorging on your Steam
I’m just another casualty
A lost, forgotten dream
The explanation
I’m sure a lot of you have games that have been languishing on your wishlist forever. Wouldn’t it be awesome if, after months or even years of waiting, you finally got that game you’ve wanted since you first signed up for Steam?
The contest
Disclaimer: Contest open to G&T Adventure Team Steam Group members only, since they have already been screened for Russianism
Note: Hereinafter, the term “Wishlist Game Date” (or WGD) refers to the date a game was added to your wishlist
Send me a PM with the following information:
- The name of the game on your wishlist with the earliest WGD, and the date you added it
- A link to your steam profile
This contest will last until sometime-in-the-evening o’clock on Wednesday, July 18nd. At this point, I will release a list ranking some number of submissions from earliest WGD to most recent WGD. The first 3 people on this list will receive the games in question.
If the amount I spend on those 3 games does not exceed, say, $50, then I will continue going down the list, gifting each person their respective game, until I pass that mark.
To keep things interesting, I will try to provide daily updates about what the current “earliest WGD” is.
Please note the change in the end date as stated above.
I thought it would be cool to have it for the whole Steam sale, but it occurred to me that people might be passing up some of these games when their daily or flash deals come up because of the possibility of winning.
As it stands, any WGD in 2011 has no chance of winning; I have 13 entries with WGDs in 2010, and 3 of them are The Witcher 2, so I won't be making it very far past those. The very earliest dates are still in summer of 2010.

First of all, if you're interested in killing some floors feel free to add me on Steam. That is, if you don't mind my probably high ping or lack of a mic.
(But if you do shoot a fleshpound with a perk unfit for the job, expect ME to get all red and rage at you. Nah not really. Maybe.)
Second, thanks to @Karoz for the gift of Civ IV! Been wanting this one for a long time now.
Third, Warlords is skippable, BtS is good, is that correct? At least that's what I remember from back when people still talked about Civ IV.
Yes, IIRC all the actual gameplay improvements from warloards are in BtS, just not the scenarios

Today's damage has been the new Killing Floor skinpack including that fancy one with the particles and money and whatnot. I will whop my wad of dosh now. Also grabbed the Hawaii pack for MS Flight. I've seen a lot of people slag on this game but it's actually a quite nice and chill flying game with fun activities and an incredibly detailed environment.
Also @MoxieWhimsy (not sure if that's your forum name or not) hit me with Beat Hazard. I love music games and shmups so I expect this to be a great time. I know I've heard good stuff from people too.
If I buy an indie bundle can I give out individual games or is it just the pack as a whole? I want Sword and sworcery but already own sanctum and atom. Don't want the other two.

Is there a way to "save" spells and equip them? Or do you have to input the spell every cast?
Sadly, it's one of the annoyances about casting spells - you must plug it in every time. It's supposed to be an offset to how powerful spells can be (other than mana costs).

Bought QUBE, but going to pass on Skyrim and SR3 for this sale, I think. I have been pretty gluttonous in the past 3 sales, and I think it is time for a bit of blasphemy austerity. Maybe I can get through this sale on $38 and my marriage intact.

Dude...maximize the window, or something.
The slats are part of a treehouse named "Fort Friendship" two of the little Steam mascot dudes are chilling in.
The past days they were working on building it. Yesterday the black Steam mascot guy was looking angry and thinking about the other two like they were poopyheads or something, because maybe he was left out of the whole fort deal? Hopefully we'll soon find out!
So, would you guys say its worth the extra 12 bucks to get the Saints Row 3 franchise pack?
And by the way, in case anyone was wondering, you DON'T gain giftable copies of games you already own in a purchased pack, unless specifically stated in the pack's description in the store.
Also, just so everyone knows. Max Payne is JUST AS GREAT as it was 11 years ago.
I love MP 1 and 2. But I haven't had much interest in checking out 3. It just doesn't look like a MP game to me.
Having finished the game, I can sort of address this concern. And frankly, you're kind of right.
The images in the game are very different than those in MP1 and MP2. There are a few similar locations (abandoned buildings and police stations) but as it takes place primarily in Brazil, over the course of several days, it doesn't have the same visual style of the first two games. I also missed the visual novel style, the dream sequences, and the meta commentary from the first game.
The plot line, however, draws heavily from the Noir tradition. Max is Broken with a capital B. Frankly, I probably would have preferred a game set between the timelines of 2 and when they set 3, but this is what they decided to go with.
The voice over though, is classic Max Payne. Heavy metaphors with a bleak outlook on life. Hell, there are even a few direct quotes from the past games. I smiled when I hit one in particular.
The shooting is very much classic Payne with a new addition of a Last Man Standing mechanic to keep you going. The cover system isn't that intrusive. Hell, I used to use cover in MP1 and 2, this just makes it easier to actually hide. The danger is in sticking too much to that cover and treating the game like a Gears or something.
At the end of the game, I felt...satisfied? It was a game that I enjoyed. I think it could have been a better homage to the original games, but it is a good game on it's own. The first two are two of my favorite games ever. This one made a good case for itself though I ended up selling it to Gamestop to get Steam Wallet cash. I do plan on buying the game on PC sometime in the future though.
