I wanna thank @minor incidentagain for gifting it to me last winter. Jesus, so many games just from him

It actually has a coherent story, its just store wacky we also tried the multiplayer a while back and it was chaotic fun.

And on Jade Empire; have you not played it before? Because if not I'm so jealous. It I is a great game and I wish I could play it again for the first time. I mean I'm still replaying it and it is fantastic. But the first time is always the best run.

Driver looks good. It will be the same price as the daily just before the sale right? I kind of regret not picking it up then, as I was saving my pennies for the sale.

Driver will be £4.99. No idea if that was the previous price. But it is definitely worth more than that.

Download games onto your larger HDD, then transfer them to and from the SSD as needed with one click.

Damn you for kicking away my last shambling excuse for not buying an SSD.

Good morning! Everyone buy Just Cause 2. And for the live of God, vote Driver! Best game of last year. So whacky and zany.

Well, I bought out the Just Cause 2 DLC and already voted Driver. Sounds like I'm doing it right.

Can anybody recommend for or against owning the first Just Cause? Anybody actually ever play it much? I like the second a lot, by the way.

pass on it. The second does everything better. I enjoyed the first poorly because it was do relaxing to just fly around but with the sequel you get it all.

Definitely thinking about doing a minor upgrade to my 5-year old PC, which is running Vista 32-bit but is definitely capable of running Windows 7 64-bit. Figure I'd buy Win 7 and some new hard drives.

Then maybe I could fit all my Steam games on one hard drive again!

bluh, totally wasted $7 on borderlands, this game is awful and i don't like it at all

Really? What don't you like? Also, have you tried playing co-op?

i just really can't get into any shooters, ever.

i figured i'd give borderlands a try for the "diablo" bit in the "diablo with guns" summary,
but i just feel like it's really lame, frustrating, and an unsatisfying genre.

like playing an awful pointless game of hide-and-seek on a mostly-flat series of 3d surfaces.
find enemy, click on enemy, numbers and/or blood appear, repeat.
some things let you click more, other things let your clicks count more.

i just dislike the gameplay, the feel of the game, on the most basic level possible.
i mean, it seems like people enjoy them. i feel like... i must be missing something vital, here.

it's also the reason i never bought anything in the orange box.

Borderlands isn't for everyone, especially someone who doesn't like shooters.

You might want to try it for more than .6 hours though before declaring it awful. You basically met TK and did the most boring fetch my 4 pieces of meat tutorial quest in the game, and maybe got back to town and unlocked the vending machines? Did you even make it to Skag Gully and take out Nine Toes? You certainly didn't get to Tannis' journals, Crystal Caverns or possibly even the first exchanges with Scooter. You didn't unlock vehicles, which isn't my favorite part of the game but can be fun just boosting and zooming around the real estate.

The PA thread OP has a bunch of newbie tips that help lower early game frustrations. For example, healing inventory items suck in BL (no hotkey, heal over time, not terribly effective) and if you were using them like you would in a regular RPG you'd probably be pretty frustrated. Also, if you don't like shooting you could re-roll a Brick who unlocks a (pretty funny) melee special.

Anyway, I obviously love the game, MP and SP, but know it's not for everyone. Taking another look might salvage your purchase. If not, oh well.

Borderlands, as an actual shooter, isn't all that great. The gunplay in that game is serviceable at best and kind of awful in some situations.

Ironically I would recommend the orange box to see what a good shooter should feel like. There are so many extra copies of HL2 and the episodes floating around they're basically free at this point.

And once again before I head to work!
    VH’s Forgotten Dreams Giveaway

Think back ye now upon the day
    When first your mind perceived
My preview vid on your display
And thus your heart was thieved

For some small time your thoughts were filled
    With what I had incited
    The mere anticipation thrilled
    Each slight regard excited

But when at last the launch date dawned
    You lacked sufficient wealth
To purchase that for which you longed
    E’en more than life itself

To find me in the next big sale
    Was your ideal solution
But months went by to no avail
    To your great disillusion

Onto the wishlist I was placed
    An act of desperation
And so I linger, once embraced,
    Now doomed to isolation

You’re fat and happy as can be
    While gorging on your Steam
    I’m just another casualty
    A lost, forgotten dream

    The explanation

I’m sure a lot of you have games that have been languishing on your wishlist forever. Wouldn’t it be awesome if, after months or even years of waiting, you finally got that game you’ve wanted since you first signed up for Steam?

    The contest

Disclaimer: Contest open to G&T Adventure Team Steam Group members only, since they have already been screened for Russianism

Note: Hereinafter, the term “Wishlist Game Date” (or WGD) refers to the date a game was added to your wishlist

Send me a PM with the following information:

    - The name of the game on your wishlist with the earliest WGD, and the date you added it
    - A link to your steam profile

This contest will last until sometime-in-the-evening o’clock on Wednesday, July 18nd. At this point, I will release a list ranking some number of submissions from earliest WGD to most recent WGD. The first 3 people on this list will receive the games in question.

If the amount I spend on those 3 games does not exceed, say, $50, then I will continue going down the list, gifting each person their respective game, until I pass that mark.

To keep things interesting, I will try to provide daily updates about what the current “earliest WGD” is.

Contest will end sometime this evening after I get home from work!

As it stands, any WGD in 2011 has no chance of winning; I have 13 entries with WGDs in 2010, and 3 of them are The Witcher 2, so I won't be making it very far past those. The very earliest dates are still in summer of 2010.

Oh man. Finally got around to installing EYE: Divine Cybermancy and was super-excited about a bit of co-op with a friend. Then was slapped full in the face with disappointment as it involves jumping through hoops beyond my level of comprehension for port-forwarding and whatnot (partly my fault as I've no idea what the router password is, default stuff isn't working, and I've lost the manual to guide me through reset, etc. Ugh, I hate connectiony stuff)

On the bright side... Steam sales!

From what I've heard B1 has the best story and B2 has the best gameplay. If you've already had the plot of 1 spoiled, then just get 2.

    FWIW, I haven't played 2, so I can't judge, but I thought 1's gameplay wasn't bad, but perhaps a little too easy.

Oh man, every Steam game should handle DirectX like Europa Universalis III. You click "Play Game" and it goes "Wait, you have to have DirectX installed! Imma gonna fire up the installer now." and you click "Okay" and it goes "Shit, my bad, you already got everything, never mind!" and you click "... Okay?" and then the game starts!

And... then... doesn't work. But the DirectX thing is nice.
