Also while I'm here what's the deal with Sydney's plan to ban shots and restrict people to only taking 4 drinks at a time after 12 in The Cross?

We're trying to encourage bogans to hang out somewhere else on Friday nights, they're shitting up the place.

Somehow we need to get them back to the inbred holes they belong in.

That is one option, I suppose! I think I can do a lot of things with the stuff I will learn which is part of why I was drawn to it. Examples include sound design for games, helping recording artists/bands record their stuff, doing sound production for movies and so on.

Frankly I think we just need to set up a checkpoint at lets say Strathfield wherein really unevolved looking people aren't allowed to get past to the city.

  • TefTef Registered User regular
    Oh

I am the only one getting indignant about it then. I think we can deduce what side of the decent people vs alcoholic bogan I fall on

I'm all for being an alcoholic bogan, but the current culture seems to be go to the city to hunt pussy at a club, get bounced because you don't have the RATIO or because you otherwise act like a bogan fuckwit (not you personally btw), then wander around the streets of the Cross starting fights with people.

Like seriously its not even a gang thing, its literally bogans wandering the streets starting fights with strangers because the bouncer won't let them get any. The media had a bit of a shitstorm about it a few weeks ago when a teenager died due to a blow to the temple because of one of these guys.

Over here they've made it so offies have to close at 10pm weeknights, 9pm sundays and they don't open till whatever time in the morning and pretty much every club has to close at 2:30 at night. This was all done to combat binge drinking. I mean I'll just buy more when I'm at the offie then.

You know, for all the stories you hear in Perth, I've only ever seen one fight in northbridge.

No wait, that wasn't even in northbridge, it was outside the kebab shop near carnigies.

The most violent fight I've ever seen was between two girls because one apparently stole some guy off the other.

This was at a bus station in Parramatta at like 2am. The violent part of the argument started and ended quite abruptly with one girl pegging a glass bottle at the others head. The other girl just dropped when the bottle shattered on her face.

I suppose though, it's good that glassings and stuff are regularly reported though (at least here) because it means that it is still uncommon enough that it does make the news. If it happened every weekend it wouldn't be reported.

  • theSquidtheSquid Sydney, AustraliaRegistered User regular
No I was on the bus when it happened outside and it pulled away. I suppose I could've asked the bloke who recorded it on his phone though.

I remember reading an article about some city in America.

Apparently it was big news that a whole day went by without anyone being murdered.

How could they know? Maybe they just hid the body really really well.

And I will never understand what compels people to start filming as a first response to someone being in danger.

God dammit news.com.au, you got your quotes wrong, it's not: 'The Shire' star injured in 'knife attack' it's:The Shire 'star' injured in 'knife attack'

And they're supposed to be journalists.

I've seen more fights in Midland than I have in Northbridge. By a considerable amount, too.

But that's mostly because... Well, it's Midland. Only place other than school I've ever been in a fight, also (excluding that one thing in a bar).

I just have a real problem with the way the powers that be want to go about fixing these issues. They're very much interested in making a large, decisive move that is very short sighted in scope so they can win the next election but I just really feel like it's a shitty way to go about it.

Draconian rules on club lockouts, dress codes, restricted service times/quantities and taxes on spirits create this atmosphere of resentment amongst punters.

Well then what fixes it? You can say education yes. But let's face it, the people currently doing this aren't going to affected by this.

a cultural shift over a couple of generations. Making feel like they are capable of making decisions in a responsible manner by not dictating to them how to conduct themselves in public (commonsense rules of 'hey don't murder people' would still apply)

It is absolutely not an easy solution.

Clover Moore (Sydney independent mayor) has put a lot of work into fostering a small bar culture to make Sydney's night life more comparable to Melbourne's or New York's. The small bars are there and theyre great, the bogans don't go to them, there's no shitty dance music drowning out the conversation, and all of us city dwelling elitist pricks are generally having a good time. All that is left is to make the idea of opening giant pubs in the cbd that primarily that primarily cater to subhuman shitbeaks extremely unprofitable.
