How did people handle the whole Slot Machine in Serendipity bullshit for 100%? My eyes kind of gloss over and my blood starts to boil when any game includes any sort of casino so I avoided the place like a plague (once I learned that the only way to find Sazh in it was in the goddamn DLC). I briefly considered trying for a XIII-2 Platinum, then realized I would need to spend time in Serendipity and immediately reconsidered. If it's not difficult, though...
Well, it looks awful, so you saved a minute and a half of your time. Incredibly boxy, empty, poorly textured environments, low framerates (likely fixed by release). And the costume is backless. And she wears some overdesigned sunglasses, too!
Everything is flatly lit. The combat system looks almost the same. She slides down a pole like a stripper. FFXIII and XIII-2 look really nice compared to this. And I do not usually have kind words to say about XIII.

Looks like the video is back up.
Where, pray tell, is this supposed video at, good sir?
The only worthwhile thing to come out of that FFIV iOS video is the confirmation of multiple difficulty modes. If they release that version on PSP (NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN) then I will play it on Easy.
I think people overestimate IV's difficulty. The original one anyways, not the DS (that one will rape you if you drop your guard). Which probably has something to do with its sordid history with the Easy/Hard type differences. But I mean, the "hard/original" version really isn't that different from every other FF. It has its moments, but so does every other RPG.

So uh, is it still going to have a paradigm battle system with Lightning and two monsters? It sounds even more limiting than XIII-2, but I'll live. If not, uh, no sale.
Its called use Stop and other buff/debuff spells. Also don't attack monsters with auto counterattack unless you're set up for it. That's it, that's the in and out of FF IV's difficulty. If that level of thinking is beyond you, well, go level on the moon somewhere until you're in the 80's.

No. It's a new battle system, with Lightning solo.

My understanding is that it would be Lightning alone, and the battle system would be an active affair, something akin to... I dunno, Devil may Cry or God of War?
No scratch that, if it was something closer to Crisis Core, but more polished up, I would be into that.

Yep, waiting for $20. Or FFXIII-3 with a full party.
I really hope it's real. I know they're going to give their usual bullshit price, but I really want to be able to own a good version of that game (as in, with the GBA translation) and finally play through it.
It's pretty godawful. I really hope that's not how the actual game is going to run on iOS, because that framerate is pathetically worse than the DS version.
I shouldn't even be excited for FFV, because at Square's pace? December 2014, probably.
Wow. Wow. That battle system....I am completely and totally un-interested. It still looks semi-turn-based or something and XIII's system was only fun with three people. XIII-2's was -never- fun. So that's...no thanks.
Despite my enormous misgivings, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and guess that the trailer is all Alpha footage, and probably the exact same footage they demoed privately when it was officially announced.
That said, the Crystal Tools engine still earns the award for being the fastest next-gen engine to become obsolete. The stiff character movements, spotty framerate, and square textures look exactly like the previous two games, so even if they work double-time to improve on that stuff, there's only so much you can do with the engine at this point.
Right now I'm just waiting for the Dark Ages of Final Fantasy to come to an end. I'd like to think that will occur with either the launch of FFXIV 2.0 (which has a good chance of being legitimately good, but won't likely make any waves with people until a year or two after release), or whatever else comes after this third and (please, god, please) final "Lightning Saga" game (Versus, whatever uses the AP engine). That includes the localization of Type-0 and Square figuring out not to charge such bullshit prices for their mobile releases (depending which seems less far-fetched).
I really hope it's real. I know they're going to give their usual bullshit price, but I really want to be able to own a good version of that game (as in, with the GBA translation) and finally play through it.
It's real alright, though iOS and good version don't normally add up when talking about SE ports.

On that subject, how is FFT on the iPad? It looks like the price dropped down to something semi manageable ($8.99). Does it have the slowdown issues of the PSP port?
I also recall they wanted to include an update that replaced all the portraits with high-res/upscaled portraits. In typical Square tradition, this update has not been released yet.

Pros: Is a total bad ass. The only one smart/emotionally stable enough to lead the party when shit gets bad. Has great dialogue.
Cons: Total wife beater and all around shit heel.
FF 4 Cid:
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Bad stats besides HP, terrible item selection. Is only ok in FF IV Advance/PSP when he rejoins the party in the end game.
VII Cid went into space.

Edit: And from the HUD during battle, the battle system is almost exactly what I thought.

Actually doesn't look bad. Her outfit's better than XIII-2's, I think.
Still have a feeling this won't end the series, just Lightning's role(which is stupid).
